Let's choose a route
What makes a cabinet frameless?
A frameless cabinet has no hardwood face frame — doors and drawer fronts mount directly to the box sides and cover the full face of the cabinet. That means wider drawer boxes, no center stile to reach around, and noticeably more usable interior than an equivalent framed cabinet. The construction originated in postwar Europe, which is why it’s also called European or full-access style.
Framed vs frameless
Framed cabinets add a solid-wood frame to the front of the box for a traditional look and forgiving installation; frameless boxes rely on thicker side panels for rigidity and deliver a sleeker, full-overlay face. Neither is objectively better — pick framed for classic and transitional kitchens, frameless for modern, handleless and slab-door designs.
Common Questions
Are frameless cabinets sturdy?
Yes — quality frameless boxes use thicker side and back panels precisely because there’s no frame; the construction is standard across Europe and holds up to daily use just as well as framed cabinetry.
Do frameless cabinets really have more storage?
Yes. With no face frame narrowing the openings, drawers run wider and the full interior width is reachable — the gain is most noticeable in drawer bases and corner units.
What door styles work with frameless construction?
Slab and handleless doors are the natural fit, but frameless shaker lines exist too — our Modernform collections cover both.
