Forty-eight inches: the top of the width grid, and the four things built there

The width grid steps in threes from 9″ and stops at 48″. Eight units survive that far: one base, one blind corner, one lift-up wall cabinet, one vanity combination, a valance and three floating shelves. Nothing else — no upper, no pantry, no sink base, no accessory. Forty-eight inches is less a cabinet size than a set of special cases, and knowing which case you are in is the whole decision.

When to split 48 inches into two boxes
Most of the time. Two 24″ bases give you four doors instead of two, two shelves that will not deflect, a middle stile to hang a divider off, and access to every roll-out and insert the catalog makes — none of which fit a 48″ box. They also cost about the same: two B24-1 at $471.25 come to $942.50 against $815.75 for the B48-1, which is a real premium, but the split buys back a great deal of usability.
The cases for one wide box are narrower than people think: a sink centred on a window with no stile in the way, an island back that should read as furniture, a laundry base holding one large object. Otherwise take the two-box route and put the difference into the accessories that only fit narrower cabinets.
The biggest blind corner in the catalog
BLB48/51-1 at $767.00 covers openings from 48″ to 51″, the widest band the blind-corner family offers, and it exists because some corners are simply that big — two deep runs meeting where a chimney breast or a stub wall has eaten the geometry. It costs $48.75 less than the plain 48″ base, which tells you something: you are paying for accessible cabinet, and a blind corner has less of it.
Go in with your eyes open about the dead zone. Roughly the depth of the neighbouring cabinet is reachable only by leaning past the blind panel, and the corner mechanisms that solve that — the lazy susan and the easy reach — are built at 33″ and 36″ and nowhere else. If the corner has to work hard, redesign it at 36″; if it is storing the roasting tin and the slow cooker, the blind box is fine and cheap.
The 48″ vanity, and the shelf that needs an electrician
VSD48 at $975.00 is the width most single-sink bathrooms should be looking at. A bowl at one end and a drawer bank at the other gives you the two things a vanity actually needs — usable counter and drawers that are not interrupted by plumbing — and it stops short of the point where a second bowl starts to make sense. That threshold is 60″, and there is nothing between the two.
The three floating shelves at $698.75 and $845.00 are lit, which makes them a construction item rather than a cabinet one. Decide on them at framing stage, not when the cabinets arrive.
