Thirty-nine inches: eight cabinets exist, and every one of them ends something

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

Thirty-nine inches is where the catalog gets thin enough to list in full. Eight units, two departments, nothing else: four wall cabinets and four bases, with no tall, no vanity, no glass front, no accessory and no decorative part built at this size. That scarcity is the point of the page, because it changes how you plan a 39″ opening — you are not choosing a cabinet, you are choosing between four of them.

Everything the catalog builds at 39 inches

This is one of the few widths where an exhaustive list fits on a page, so here it is. Four uppers in the four full heights, and four bases covering a sink, a door box, a full-height-door box and a blind corner.

B39-1Base, drawer over doors$718.25The widest ordinary base before the specials start

What the last three inches cost

Stepping up from 36″ is not uniform. The sink base takes $35.75 for the extra three inches and the ordinary base $42.25 — both good value. The upper takes $104.00, a 25% jump for 8% more cabinet, because a 39″ double-door wall box is a heavy, awkward thing to build and to hang.

Two practical consequences. First, if the wall will take either, put the extra width in the base and keep the uppers at 36″ — nobody notices a three-inch difference between a base and the cabinet above it once the reveals are set. Second, hang a 39″ upper properly: it is the widest wall box in the catalog outside the lift-ups, and it wants its rail into framing, not into drywall anchors.

Reading BLB39/42

The slash is a range, not a choice. BLB39/42-1 at $685.75 is one cabinet that fills a corner opening measuring anywhere from 39″ to 42″, with a filler at the blind end absorbing the difference. Corners are the least predictable dimension in any kitchen — two walls, two runs, and a plaster build-up nobody measured — so the blind-corner family is sold in overlapping bands on purpose.

What you give up is the same as at any blind corner: the section behind the neighbouring cabinet is reachable only by leaning in. The two mechanisms that fix that, the lazy susan and the easy reach, are built at 33″ and 36″ and not here. If the corner needs to be genuinely usable, plan the corner at 36″ and take the leftover somewhere else in the run.

Where a 39″ box actually belongs

At the end of a run, under a window, or across the back of an island — anywhere the width is set by architecture rather than by an appliance. The sink base is the most defensible of the four: SB39-1 at $526.50 gives a large bowl generous margins and leaves room for a soap pump and a filter tap without the cutout crowding the cabinet structure.

What we would not do is chase 39″ for its own sake. Two 21″ boxes, or a 24″ and a 15″, cover the same span with more doors and access to every accessory in the catalog. Buy the 39″ when the wall genuinely wants one cabinet, not when it merely permits one.

Common questions

How many 39 inch cabinets are there?
Eight — four double-door wall cabinets from $526.50 to $724.75 and four bases from $526.50 to $718.25. No tall cabinet, vanity, glass front, accessory or decorative part is built at this width.
How much is a 39 inch sink base?
$526.50, which is $35.75 more than the 36″ version. That is one of the better-value steps on the grid — the equivalent jump on a wall cabinet costs $104.00.
What does BLB39/42 mean?
A blind corner base that fits an opening anywhere between 39″ and 42″, with a filler strip at the blind end taking up the slack. It displays at $685.75.
Do roll-out drawers fit a 39 inch cabinet?
No. The roll-out family runs 15″ to 36″, and the drawer inserts stop at 36″ too. A 39″ base takes fixed shelves only, so plan it for bulk storage and put the organized storage in a narrower neighbour.
Is a 39 inch wall cabinet too big?
It is the widest standard upper the catalog makes, and at 42″ high it is a substantial box. It works, but hang it into framing rather than anchors, and consider whether a 36″ upper over a 39″ base would look identical for $104.00 less.
