Brand vs. Brand

Fabuwood vs JSI Cabinetry

Two framed, full-overlay shaker programs sold only through dealers — close enough on paper that the small print on drawers, hinges, assembly and warranty decides it.

Fabuwood vs JSI is one of the tightest match-ups a dealer gets asked about, because the two brands chase the same buyer with nearly the same product: a framed, full-overlay shaker door on a ½″ plywood box, dovetail drawers, soft-close hinges and glides, and a quote from an independent showroom rather than a big-box aisle. JSI Cabinetry is the brand of JS International Inc., based in Fall River, Massachusetts, with further locations listed in Chicago, Atlanta and Denver. Fabuwood is headquartered and assembles in Newark, New Jersey. We carry Fabuwood, plus J&K Cabinets and US Cabinet Depot; we do not sell JSI, so every JSI fact below comes from jsicabinetry.com and is dated September 2026.

Choose Fabuwood if…

  • You want Blum® named on the hinge and runner spec, with full-extension drawers written into it
  • The cabinets should land already built, so install day starts with hanging boxes rather than assembling them
  • A limited lifetime warranty in writing, or a design that might drift toward oak, green, navy or frameless slab, matters to you

Choose JSI if…

  • A thicker ¾″ dovetail drawer box on every cabinet is the line item you care about most
  • A JSI dealer is near you and the Dover, Essex or Amesbury palette already holds the color you want
  • You’d like one of the eight accent paints — Sage, Navy, Charcoal and others — on an island against a white perimeter

A Fall River Brand and a Newark Brand, Same Channel

JSI’s contact page lists its headquarters at 485 Commerce Drive in Fall River, Massachusetts, with the showroom closed to the public, and three more addresses in Bolingbrook outside Chicago, Atlanta and Denver. It sells only through independent dealers and runs a dealer-application page for showrooms that want to add it. The site does not say where the cabinets themselves are manufactured, so we won’t guess; ask the dealer if country of origin matters to you.

Fabuwood’s setup is easier to describe because we buy from it. Its headquarters and assembly floor are in Newark, New Jersey, components are imported, and the company announced a plant in Tijuana, Mexico in January 2025. Finished boxes go out through a dealer network much like JSI’s. So neither brand is a factory-direct or big-box product, and neither is a built-to-order custom shop; they compete for the same showroom counter.

That is why the question shows up the way it does online. The one autocomplete suggestion for “jsi cabinets vs” is Fabuwood, and older Houzz and Facebook threads lump JSI with Fabuwood, Forevermark, J&K and US Cabinet Depot as the affordable dealer brands to shortlist. Of that group, these two are the closest overlap, so this page goes spec line by spec line rather than arguing price tiers.

Box, Shelves and Drawers: JSI’s Thicker Drawer Side

Every JSI door-style page carries the same numbered construction callout: ½″ plywood sides, a solid wood face frame, corner blocks, a ¾″ plywood shelf on Designer styles and a ⅝″ plywood shelf on Premier styles, and a ¾″ solid wood dovetail drawer. Designer pages specify solid wood corner blocks; the Premier pages just say corner blocks. The stained-oak Dover finishes, Driftwood and Haven, list a solid oak frame instead of a painted solid wood one.

Fabuwood’s framed Allure series uses a ½″ veneered plywood box with a wood-veneer interior, ¾″ plywood shelves, a solid wood face frame, and ⅝″ solid wood dovetail drawer boxes. Doors are solid wood frames around a ⅜″ MDF center panel, which is the normal recipe for painted shaker because an MDF panel won’t split the paint at the frame joints as the seasons change. JSI’s style pages don’t break out the door panel material, so that one line stays blank on its side.

Put the two sheets next to each other and the box sides are identical on paper, the shelves match on JSI Designer and run ⅛″ thinner on JSI Premier, and the drawer box is the one place JSI is heavier: ¾″ sides against Fabuwood’s ⅝″. A thicker dovetail side holds a screw for a pull-out organizer a little better and feels more solid in the hand, though ⅝″ is already the common spec for dovetailed stock cabinets. Open a drawer on a display if you can; it’s the quickest honest test of either brand.

Bremen Hinges or Blum Hinges, and How Far the Drawer Opens

JSI names its hardware Bremen on each construction callout: soft-close, adjustable hinges and soft-close undermount glides. Fabuwood names Blum®: Blumotion soft-close hinges and Tandem plus Blumotion concealed runners, which are full extension, so the back of the drawer clears the face frame. JSI’s pages say undermount and soft-close but don’t state the extension, so ask the dealer whether its glides open fully or stop short.

A concealed soft-close hinge on a framed box. JSI lists Bremen hardware on its spec callouts; Fabuwood specifies Blum.

Both brands give you quiet doors and drawers out of the box, and a homeowner will struggle to tell them apart the first year. The difference is what happens in year twelve. Blum parts are stocked by nearly every hardware supplier in the country, so a worn hinge or a tired soft-close insert is usually easy to source long after the kitchen goes in. For JSI, the company’s own YouTube channel has a video on replacing a JSI soft-close insert, which suggests parts go through JSI and its dealers; confirm how replacements are handled before you order.

Dover, Essex and Amesbury Next to Galaxy’s Fourteen

JSI’s Designer line is where most of its range lives. Dover and Essex are shaker doors, each offered in White, Truffle (a light brown), Driftwood (a light beige stain on oak), Haven (a dark brown stain on oak), Norwich (light gray paint) and Castle (dark gray paint). Trenton comes in Recessed and Slab and Yarmouth in Raised and Slab, all in a soft-white paint. An accent program adds eight paints — Sage, Augusta, Breeze, Charcoal, Navy, Greige, Light Gray and Dark Gray — on Dover, Essex, Trenton and Yarmouth, which is useful for a colored island.

Premier is narrower. Amesbury comes in White, Ivory (a creamy white JSI is currently featuring), Mist (a light gray stain) and Villa, a light stain on a slab door, and Amesbury Recessed repeats those four. Upton is a rustic brown stain in shaker and recessed versions. Quincy appears in JSI’s menus, but no Quincy finishes were listed on the Premier kitchen page when we checked in September 2026, so ask your dealer whether it is still offered.

Fabuwood’s framed Allure series spreads across six collections, and the Galaxy shaker alone stocks 14 finishes: Frost, Dove, Linen, Horizon, Nickel, Cobblestone, Pitch Black, Indigo, Pistachio Green, Truffle, Timber (a warm honey-tan stain), Mocha (a muted, ashy brown), Desert Oak and Natural Oak. Past Galaxy there are slab, textured and woodgrain collections, plus the frameless Illume and Ovela lines. For a white or gray shaker kitchen both catalogs have you covered; for a light oak, green or blue perimeter, Fabuwood has more to choose from, while JSI’s accent paints are aimed at islands and bars.

Assembled or Knocked Down, Ship Dates and Warranty Paper

Fabuwood ships every cabinet pre-assembled, built in Newark with dowels, glue and pocket screws. JSI’s site doesn’t say RTA or assembled in so many words, but the “Assembly Videos” link in its footer opens a YouTube channel with step-by-step assembly videos for Designer base, wall, lazy susan, square-corner and wall-pantry cabinets. Plan on the possibility of flat-pack boxes and ask the dealer, in writing, whether your order arrives built and whether they charge to assemble it.

On speed, JSI says it ships to the dealer 5–7 days after the order is placed. Fabuwood’s Galaxy can go out in as little as 7 days, and most Fabuwood orders arrive in 2–4 weeks. Both are fast enough that cabinets rarely hold up a remodel; the dealer’s delivery schedule and any backordered parts will matter more than the headline number.

The warranty is the one line we can’t fill in for JSI. Its website shows KCMA and CARB2 logos but no warranty document or term, so ask the dealer to hand you the written terms with the quote and check how long painted finishes are covered. Fabuwood carries a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner. JSI also doesn’t publish prices; it describes itself as up to 50% less than high-end custom cabinetry, which tells you its target, not its number. A Fabuwood Galaxy B12 base lists at $560, and an Allure 10×10 typically lands between $4,000 and $7,000.

Also Weighing J&K or US Cabinet Depot? The RTA Route

The Facebook version of this question asks about J&K, JSI, US Cabinet Depot and Fabuwood in one breath. If the budget is the deciding factor and someone on the job can build boxes, the two RTA brands we carry are worth quoting alongside. J&K Cabinets ships flat-pack only, with 100% solid wood doors and face frames, ½″–⅝″ plywood boxes, dovetail drawers and soft-close hardware across three lines and 18 finishes, backed by a 5-year limited warranty. US Cabinet Depot lets you pick RTA or factory-assembled, builds its framed lines on ½″ furniture-grade plywood with ¾″ × 1¾″ hardwood face frames and ⅝″ dovetail drawers, ships from eight U.S. warehouses, carries a limited lifetime warranty, and a 10×10 in its Shaker line typically runs $2,500–$4,500 as RTA.

Neither is a like-for-like substitute for Fabuwood or JSI; you trade brand-name hardware and factory assembly for a lower number. But on a rental, a basement kitchen or a tight budget they often win outright. Send us one floor plan and our free 3D design service will draw it and quote it in Fabuwood, J&K and US Cabinet Depot — a designer replies within one business day, with the design and itemized quote in 24–48 hours — and you can set a JSI dealer’s quote for the same layout beside those numbers.

FAQ

Fabuwood vs JSI Cabinetry FAQ

Common questions about how these two compare.

Neither wins across the board. On JSI’s own spec pages its drawer box is ¾″ solid wood dovetail against Fabuwood’s ⅝″, and both brands use ½″ plywood sides and solid wood face frames. Fabuwood answers with Blum® hinges and full-extension Tandem plus runners, factory assembly, a published limited lifetime warranty and a wider finish range. Weigh the drawer against the hardware, assembly and warranty paper.

JSI Cabinetry is the brand of JS International Inc. Its website lists headquarters at 485 Commerce Drive, Fall River, Massachusetts, plus locations in Bolingbrook, Illinois (Chicago), Atlanta and Denver. The site doesn’t state where the cabinets are manufactured; ask a JSI dealer if origin matters to you.

JSI doesn’t spell it out on its website, but its official YouTube channel, linked from the site as “Assembly Videos,” walks through assembling Designer base, wall, lazy susan and pantry cabinets. Ask your dealer whether your order arrives assembled and whether assembly is charged. Fabuwood cabinets always arrive pre-assembled.

On JSI’s construction callouts, Designer styles (Dover, Essex, Trenton, Yarmouth) list ¾″ plywood shelves and solid wood corner blocks, while Premier styles (Amesbury, Amesbury Recessed, Upton) list ⅝″ plywood shelves and corner blocks. Both use ½″ plywood sides, ¾″ dovetail drawers, Bremen soft-close hardware and full-overlay doors. The larger difference is the door and color lineup.

JSI does not publish its warranty terms on jsicabinetry.com, so ask the dealer for the written warranty with your quote, including how long painted finishes are covered and whether it transfers. Fabuwood offers a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.

No. We carry Fabuwood, J&K Cabinets, US Cabinet Depot and several other brands, but not JSI. We’re happy to quote your layout in the brands we carry so you can compare it with a JSI dealer’s quote for the same kitchen.
