Fabuwood Galaxy vs Luna
One Allure cabinet, two doors: a full-width shaker frame or a pencil-thin one.
Fabuwood Galaxy vs Luna is a door decision, not a cabinet decision. Both are Allure collections built on the same ½-inch plywood box with dovetail drawers and Blum® soft-close hardware; Galaxy wears a classic five-piece shaker in 14 finishes, while Luna shrinks the rails to a thin border around a flat panel and comes in 6. Below: how the two profiles actually look on a wall, which colors they share, what the slimmer door costs, and how long each takes to arrive.

Choose Galaxy if…
- You want the familiar shaker proportions that suit traditional and transitional houses
- Your color is a paint Luna doesn’t carry, like Frost, Indigo, Pistachio Green or Pitch Black
- The schedule is tight and a stocked door that ships in days to three weeks helps
- You’re watching the budget; it’s the entry point of the Allure line
Choose Luna if…
- You like the quiet of a flat door but still want a little shadow line at the edge
- Wood grain is the point: Timber, Truffle or one of the oaks reads as a nearly unbroken panel
- You want Kona, the deep espresso that Galaxy doesn’t offer
- You can wait three to five weeks and accept a modest premium over Galaxy
Same Door Recipe, Very Different Frame
Put the two sample doors next to each other and the difference takes a second to name, then you can’t unsee it. Both are five-piece doors with a solid wood frame around a ⅜-inch MDF center panel. On Galaxy the rails and stiles are a conventional shaker width, so the frame reads as a deliberate border and the recessed panel sits well inside it. On Luna the frame is cut down to a thin strip, and the flat panel takes up almost the entire face.

That changes how a whole wall behaves. A run of Galaxy doors gives you a repeating grid of frames and shadow lines, which is what most people picture when they say shaker. A run of Luna reads closer to flat fronts from across the room; the slim border only shows when you get near it or when light rakes across the doors. Drawer fronts follow the same logic, a standard shaker frame on Galaxy and the thin frame on Luna, so the look carries through the base cabinets.
One thing Luna is not is a slab or a frameless cabinet. It sits on the same framed Allure box as Galaxy, so a narrow line of face frame still shows between doors. If you want truly seamless fronts, that’s Fabuwood’s frameless Illume or Ovela territory, at a different price.
Fourteen Colors, Six Colors, Five in Common
Galaxy has the deepest color list in the Allure family: the painted whites and neutrals (Frost, Dove, Linen, Nickel), the painted colors (Indigo, Pistachio Green, Pitch Black), and the stains and wood tones (Horizon, Cobblestone, Timber, Mocha, Truffle, Desert Oak, Natural Oak). Luna keeps it short: Dove, Kona, Timber, Truffle, Desert Oak and Natural Oak, and Fabuwood presents all six as matte finishes.
Five of those names appear on both doors, which is the useful part. Dove is the soft off-white; Timber is a warm honey-tan stain; Truffle is the earthy mid-brown; Desert Oak is the palest, washed blonde oak with open grain; Natural Oak is a touch warmer and darker, with finer, straighter grain. Kona, a very dark espresso, is the one Luna finish Galaxy doesn’t have. Everything painted beyond Dove, including the blues, greens, black and grays, is Galaxy only.
The stains are where Luna earns its keep. With so little frame interrupting it, the grain on a Luna Timber or Luna Natural Oak door runs almost edge to edge, while the same stain on Galaxy is broken up by the rails. If your heart is set on a color Luna doesn’t list, Fabuwood’s custom paint program covers every framed Allure door, so a Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color can go on Luna too. It carries an upcharge and extra lead time; ask for both numbers when you quote.
What the Slimmer Door Costs, in Dollars and Weeks
Galaxy is the entry point of Allure: a 10×10 kitchen typically lands at $4,000–$5,500 in cabinets with our discount applied. Luna typically lands at $4,500–$6,000 for the same benchmark, so expect it to sit a few hundred dollars to around $500 higher on a like-for-like layout. The box, drawers and hardware are identical, so that premium is paying for the door and for a collection Fabuwood makes to order rather than stocks.
Inside Galaxy, twelve finishes share one price and the two oaks, Desert Oak and Natural Oak, run about 20% higher on the same cabinet. We don’t have a verified finish split for Luna’s oaks, so if you’re comparing Galaxy Natural Oak with Luna Natural Oak, have both quoted on your actual cabinet list rather than assuming the gap from the ranges above.
Timing is the other half. Galaxy is Fabuwood’s stocked best-seller and ships pre-assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks; Luna runs the standard Allure 3–5 weeks. Freight adds 7–14 business days in the continental U.S. either way. On a remodel where the counters are templated off the installed boxes, that two-week head start can matter more than the price difference.
Which House Each Door Belongs In
A standard shaker is the safest door in American cabinetry because it borrows from so many eras. Galaxy sits comfortably in a colonial, a craftsman, a farmhouse or a builder-grade two-story, and it takes hardware from bin pulls to long bars without looking confused. If you’re selling in a few years and want the kitchen to suit whoever walks through, it’s the lower-risk pick.
The slim-shaker look belongs to newer and more pared-back rooms: flat-front houses, lofts, condos, kitchens with long runs of quartz and little ornament. Luna gives those spaces the calm of a flat door without the hard, laminate-like finish some people dislike in a true slab. It also leans on hardware more, since there’s less frame to look at; thin edge pulls or long bars in black or brass suit it best.
Small kitchens are a fair tiebreaker. Galaxy’s repeated frames add a lot of lines to a short wall, while Luna’s quieter fronts tend to make a compact room feel less busy. In a big kitchen with an island, both hold up.
Using Both Doors in One Kitchen
Because the two collections share the box, the hardware and five finishes, you don’t have to choose just one. A pattern we like: Galaxy Dove on the perimeter for a classic backdrop, and a Luna island in Timber or Natural Oak so the wood grain gets the flat panel it shows best on. The rule that keeps it tidy is to change one thing at a time, so either the same finish on both doors or two finishes on the same door, not a new door and a new color on every wall.
Plan around lead time if you mix. The Luna portion sets the ship date, so an all-Galaxy order that could have arrived in under three weeks will wait for the Luna cabinets. Ask for the whole order to ship together so your installer isn’t setting boxes twice.
Fabuwood Galaxy vs Luna: How We’d Decide
Start with the color. If it’s a Galaxy-only paint, the decision is made unless you want to pay for custom paint on Luna. If it’s one of the five shared finishes, let the house decide: traditional or transitional architecture points to Galaxy, a clean-lined modern room points to Luna. Then check the calendar; a job that has to be finished by a fixed date favors the stocked door.
Order both sample doors in your finish before committing. The rail difference is obvious in hand and surprisingly hard to judge from a product photo, and seeing the two together on your counter usually settles it within a minute. Then send us one layout priced in each collection, so you’re comparing real totals instead of ranges.

Galaxy vs Luna FAQ
Common questions about how these two compare.
It’s a slim-frame shaker. Luna is a five-piece door like Galaxy, but its rails and stiles are cut very narrow, so the flat center panel fills most of the door and it reads almost like a slab from a distance. It is still a framed cabinet, not frameless.
Yes. Both are Allure collections with the same ½-inch veneered plywood box, natural wood-veneer interior, ⅝-inch solid wood dovetail drawers, Blum® Tandem full-extension runners, Blum soft-close hinges, factory assembly and a limited lifetime warranty. Only the door and the finish list change.
Five: Dove, Timber, Truffle, Desert Oak and Natural Oak. Kona is only on Luna. Frost, Linen, Nickel, Cobblestone, Horizon, Indigo, Pistachio Green, Pitch Black and Mocha are only on Galaxy.
A typical 10×10 kitchen runs $4,000–$5,500 in Galaxy and $4,500–$6,000 in Luna, cabinets only with our discount applied, so Luna usually comes in a few hundred to about $500 higher on the same layout. Oak finishes change the math on Galaxy, so price your real layout in both.
Galaxy. It’s stocked and ships pre-assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks, while Luna takes 3–5 weeks. Add 7–14 business days of freight in the continental U.S. for either.
Not from the standard six, but yes through Fabuwood’s custom paint program, which covers every framed Allure door in any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color. Expect an upcharge and extra lead time; we confirm both when we quote.
