Brand vs. Brand

Fabuwood vs Lily Ann Cabinets

A family-run web warehouse that ships plywood kits by pallet, or a dealer-supplied shaker that lands built with Blum® hardware — the spec sheets are closer than the buying experience.

Fabuwood vs Lily Ann Cabinets is really a question about how you want to buy. Lily Ann is an independent online seller, founded in 2004, that ships mostly flat-pack cabinets from warehouses in Adrian, Michigan and Largo, Florida, with factory assembly offered only to eligible ZIP codes. Fabuwood reaches you through dealers like us, pre-assembled, on ½″ veneered plywood boxes with Blum® soft-close hardware and a limited lifetime warranty. We carry Fabuwood, plus J&K Cabinets and US Cabinet Depot for flat-pack buyers; we do not carry Lily Ann, and every Lily Ann detail below comes from lilyanncabinets.com captures dated January–June 2026.

Choose Fabuwood if…

  • You want the boxes built at the factory so install day starts with leveling, not unpacking hardware bags
  • A named hardware brand matters — Blum® hinges and runners are stocked by suppliers everywhere if a part ever fails
  • You’d rather have a dealer own the order, the layout and any freight problem than file claim tickets yourself

Choose Lily Ann if…

  • You or your crew are comfortable assembling a whole kitchen of plywood kits and want the lowest cabinet line item
  • You live near Adrian or Largo, or order enough to clear the free-freight threshold
  • A white or wood-tone shaker from its sample page covers the look, and you’re fine buying online end to end

A Web Warehouse Against a Dealer Counter

People who type these two names into a search bar are usually holding two quotes for a white shaker kitchen: one from a website with a shopping cart, one from a dealer. That is the real split. Lily Ann is a family business started by Bill Decker in 2004; its own history page says it bought a 400,000-square-foot warehouse in Adrian, Michigan in 2012 and opened a Largo, Florida location in 2014, and its product pages list those two warehouses as ship-from points. It sells to homeowners directly, online and by phone, and ships the order by freight.

Fabuwood works the other way. It designs and assembles cabinets at its Newark, New Jersey headquarters (it also announced a plant in Tijuana in January 2025) and sells only through authorized dealers. When you buy Fabuwood from us, a person lays out the room, checks the order and stays on the hook when something arrives wrong. That service is part of what you pay for, and whether you need it is most of the decision.

For clarity: we sell Fabuwood, J&K Cabinets and US Cabinet Depot. We do not sell Lily Ann. Lily Ann’s site blocked direct reads when we checked, so the details here come from archived copies of its own pages captured between January and June 2026. It updates prices and lines often, so confirm anything important with Lily Ann before you order.

Plywood on Both Sides — Where the Specs Part Ways

On paper the boxes are closer than most budget match-ups. Lily Ann’s Craftsman lines list ½″ birch plywood sides, a natural wood-veneer interior with UV coating, sliding-dovetail joints that lock the panels together, ⅝″ dovetailed solid wood drawers on full-extension soft-close undermounts, and soft-close adjustable hinges. Its competition page claims all-plywood boxes, solid hardwood face frames and ⅝″ or ¾″ shelves across the range, and its Largo page says it uses no particleboard.

Two footnotes on that same comparison page matter. Drawer hardware is not uniform: some styles get soft-close dovetail drawers, a few older ones use three-stage ball-bearing slides, and several Madison lines plus Jersey Oak use plain epoxy-coated metal glides. Lily Ann also says Madison Chocolate, Madison Toffee and Key Largo White assemble with metal clips rather than the dovetail joint. And the Craftsman doors are HDF, an engineered fiberboard that holds paint well, rather than a solid wood frame.

A Fabuwood Allure box is ½″ veneered plywood with a natural wood-veneer interior, ¾″ plywood shelves and a solid wood face frame, joined at the factory. The Galaxy door puts a solid wood frame around a ⅜″ MDF center panel, drawers are ⅝″ solid wood dovetail, and every hinge and runner is Blum®. So the practical gap is not plywood against particleboard. It is a named hardware brand, one consistent spec across the line, and who does the joining.

Kit Hours, Crew Hours and the Number That Counts

Lily Ann’s price advantage is real on the cart page. An April 2026 capture shows a 30″ two-door, two-drawer Colorado White Shaker base at $455.44, shown against a much higher “regular” price, and its buying guide says 10×10 kitchens start under $2,000. A 12″ Galaxy base is about $560 and a typical 10×10 Galaxy kitchen runs about $4,000–$5,500 in cabinets. Size for size, the flat-pack sticker is lower.

Then the labor starts. Lily Ann’s own blog says customers report 30 to 45 minutes for the first cabinet, getting quicker after that; a 30-box kitchen still means a couple of long days before anything hangs. In a June 2025 article it also concedes that pre-assembled cabinets tend to win on convenience and edge ahead on long-term durability. If you pay an installer to build the kits, that time lands on the invoice at their hourly rate. Assembled Lily Ann orders exist, but eligibility depends on your ZIP code and free freight on them applies in only 20 listed states; get that price separately.

Fabuwood arrives built, so the installer’s day goes to shimming, scribing and fastening. The honest way to settle it is to price the same layout three ways: Lily Ann flat-pack plus assembly labor, Lily Ann assembled if your ZIP qualifies, and Fabuwood delivered. Add freight on any order under Lily Ann’s free-shipping threshold. Those totals, not the per-box price, are what you compare.

Pallets, Delivery Receipts and Who Chases the Damage

Buying direct means you are the receiving dock. Lily Ann’s shipping page asks you to inspect the pallet with the driver present, note any damage or shortage on the delivery receipt, and never refuse the shipment; a refused order leaves you owing freight both ways. Signing a clean receipt means it cannot be held responsible for loss or damage. Damaged pieces must not be assembled, because assembly counts as acceptance. Claims go through an online ticket with photos, and replacements can take up to 10 business days to process.

Assembled cabinets travel wrapped and strapped on pallets; whoever sells them should tell you exactly who handles a damage claim.

Returns are narrow, which is normal for this segment but worth knowing before you order. Lily Ann takes returns within 30 days with prior authorization, only in original unopened packaging, less a 20% restocking fee and any freight it paid. Opened or assembled items and all trim are not returnable, and you arrange the return shipment yourself.

With Fabuwood through a dealer, the delivery check still matters — open every carton, photograph problems and report them fast — but the claim goes to us, not a web form. We order the replacement door or box and track it, and because the cabinets are already built, a damaged unit is usually one swap rather than a missing panel that stalls a whole run. Ask any dealer, us included, for the written return and damage terms before you sign.

Free Layouts, Door Samples and Lifetime Paper on Each Side

Both sides offer free design help. Lily Ann advertises a free professional 3D kitchen design and quote, an online visualizer and video calls with its staff. We do the same for Fabuwood: send measurements and a designer replies within one business day, with drawings and an itemized quote in 24–48 hours. The difference is scope. A dealer designer works across several brands and can tell you when a different line suits the room better; a factory-direct seller designs in its own catalog.

Lily Ann’s samples are cheap: $9.99 small door samples, credited back on orders over $1,500, plus full-size doors at roughly $21–$29 and $27.50 mini wall cabinets. Full-size Fabuwood door samples are on our sample page; ask your designer whether the sample cost can be credited toward the order. Galaxy offers 14 finishes on one shaker door, from Frost and Dove whites to warm honey-tan Timber and ashier Mocha, and framed Allure doors can be factory-painted in any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color. Lily Ann’s sample page listed about twenty styles, mostly shaker in whites, grays, a navy, a green and wood tones.

Both warranties say lifetime, and both are limited. Lily Ann covers cabinets, hinges and drawer glides against defects for the original buyer in residential use, non-transferable. It excludes labor, removal and reinstallation, treats warping under ¼″ as normal, and says hairline paint cracks at joints are not a defect. Fabuwood carries a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty; ask us for the current written terms with your quote.

Want Flat-Pack Without Buying Blind? J&K and US Cabinet Depot

If the appeal of Lily Ann is the RTA price, you don’t have to choose between flat-pack and a dealer. J&K Cabinets ships ready-to-assemble only, with 100% solid wood doors and frames, ½″–⅝″ plywood boxes, dovetail solid wood drawers, soft-close hardware and a 5-year limited warranty, typically in 2–4 weeks. US Cabinet Depot gives you the choice of RTA or factory-assembled from 8 U.S. warehouses, with ½″ furniture-grade plywood boxes, ¾″ × 1¾″ hardwood face frames, ⅝″ dovetail drawers and a limited lifetime warranty.

Buying either one from us gets you the flat-pack price with a designer, one quote, and a person to call when a panel shows up cracked. Our pick by situation: J&K or US Cabinet Depot RTA when you have assembly skills and want to spend the least; US Cabinet Depot assembled when you want built boxes at a lower entry price; Fabuwood when you want Blum® hardware, the wider Allure palette and boxes that go straight onto the wall. If Lily Ann still wins on your numbers after assembly, freight and returns are counted, that’s a fair result, and we’d rather you know it up front.

FAQ

Fabuwood vs Lily Ann Cabinets FAQ

Common questions about how these two compare.

Per box, usually yes. An April 2026 capture of lilyanncabinets.com lists a 30″ Colorado White Shaker base at $455.44 flat-pack, while a 12″ Fabuwood Galaxy base is about $560 assembled. The gap narrows once you add assembly labor, freight on orders under $2,499, or the price of Lily Ann’s own assembly where your ZIP code qualifies. Compare installed totals on the same layout.

Lily Ann says its boxes are all plywood with no particleboard, and its Craftsman lines list ½″ birch plywood boxes with ⅝″ dovetail drawers. Doors on those lines are HDF, an engineered board, and drawer glides and assembly method vary by line, so check the spec for the exact style you’re pricing. Fabuwood Allure uses ½″ veneered plywood boxes with ¾″ plywood shelves.

Yes, in some areas. Its product pages run a ZIP code check for assembly eligibility, and assembled orders over $4,999 ship free only to 20 listed states, mostly in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast. Everywhere else, and by default, it ships flat-pack. Fabuwood only ships assembled.

Both are limited lifetime warranties for the original residential owner, so neither is clearly stronger on paper. Lily Ann’s published terms exclude labor, removal and reinstallation, and treat warping under ¼″ and paint hairlines at joints as normal. Fabuwood’s warranty comes from the manufacturer through your dealer; ask for current written terms with any quote.

Its headquarters warehouse is in Adrian, Michigan, and it runs a warehouse and showroom in Largo, Florida; product pages list both as ship-from locations. Its history page also mentions a Murfreesboro, Tennessee location opened in 2014, so confirm with Lily Ann which sites are open today.

No. We carry Fabuwood, and for flat-pack buyers J&K Cabinets and US Cabinet Depot. Lily Ann details on this page come from archived copies of lilyanncabinets.com captured January–June 2026; confirm current prices and policies with Lily Ann directly.
