Brand vs. Brand

Fabuwood vs Schrock

A MasterBrand semi-custom line you order through its dealers, or a stocked Newark line with one box spec — and what each quote actually includes once you read the construction line.

Fabuwood vs Schrock is usually a question asked with two quotes on the table and a white shaker kitchen in mind: the Schrock number is semi-custom and the Fabuwood number is stocked, yet the totals sit close together. Schrock is a MasterBrand brand sold only through authorized dealers, in three series — Entra, Trademark and Boutique — whose standard box is furniture board with an all-plywood upgrade, except Boutique, which is all plywood. Fabuwood’s framed Allure line ships pre-assembled with a ½″ veneered plywood box, ⅝″ dovetail drawers and Blum® hardware on every cabinet. We carry Fabuwood and do not sell Schrock; every Schrock detail below comes from schrock.com, and anything that site doesn’t publish is marked as a dealer question.

Choose Fabuwood if…

  • You want plywood, dovetail drawers and Blum® glides without adding an upgrade line to the order
  • Your layout works in standard widths and a Galaxy shaker in stock beats a build-to-order slot
  • A stock white such as Frost or Dove, or a factory-matched paint color on Allure, covers the look

Choose Schrock if…

  • You need inset doors, custom sizing or species like cherry, walnut or rustic alder that Boutique offers
  • The local Schrock dealer’s quote includes all-plywood construction at a price you like
  • You would rather choose finishes in a showroom from a MasterBrand display than from samples by mail

Entra, Trademark or Boutique: Read the Series Line First

Schrock’s own homepage calls Entra “your introduction to the world of semi-custom cabinetry,” built around its most popular styles at an approachable price. Trademark adds finishes, door styles and storage accessories. Boutique is the top series, described as all-plywood construction with a curated set of styles, specialty finishes and custom sizing. The product filter also lists a Full Access series, labeled full-access semi-custom cabinetry. The door catalog itself only loads once you enter a ZIP code, so style counts per series have to come from the dealer.

That ladder matters more than the badge. Two Schrock quotes for the same room can hold very different cabinets, and a forum post praising or panning the brand rarely says which series it was. When a Schrock quote is sitting near a Fabuwood quote, the first job is to find the series name and whether the words “all plywood” appear anywhere on it.

Matching the Box and Drawer Line on Two Quotes

Schrock publishes one standard box on its construction page: ½″ furniture-board sides with matching laminate, ⅜″ furniture-board top and bottom, a ⅜″ load-bearing back that runs the full width and height, a natural maple laminate interior, and ¾″ furniture-board shelves edged in PVC. An all-plywood construction upgrade sits beside it, and Boutique is all plywood as part of the series. Fabuwood’s framed Allure is built one way only — ½″ veneered plywood box, natural wood-veneer interior, ¾″ plywood shelves and a solid wood face frame — so there is no upgrade to forget.

Drawers are close. Both brands build a solid-wood dovetail drawer box; Fabuwood specifies ⅝″ stock, and Schrock says its dovetailed drawer supports up to 15 pounds per square foot. The runners are where the Schrock series split: Entra lists standard full-extension soft-close glides, Trademark lists Blum® full-extension soft-close glides, and hinges on both are concealed six-way cups with MasterBrand’s Smart Stop™ closing. Every Allure cabinet uses Blum® Tandem plus runners and Blumotion hinges.

So the like-for-like comparison is Trademark with the all-plywood upgrade, or Boutique, against Allure. An Entra quote in standard construction is a furniture-board cabinet, and a lower total there may simply reflect that. Ask the Schrock dealer to reprice with all-plywood construction before deciding which quote is really cheaper.

What the Semi-Custom Label Adds: Inset, Sizing and Species

The reason to pay a semi-custom price is the order form, and Schrock’s is wider. Its catalog lists maple, cherry, oak, rustic hickory, rustic alder, walnut and quartersawn white oak, plus MDF, laminate and PureStyle surfaces, in full and partial overlay. Boutique adds inset doors — Belton Inset is one, offered in maple, cherry, rustic alder, walnut and quartersawn white oak — and the custom sizing mentioned in its series description. Schrock doesn’t publish its modification increments or which changes each series allows, so ask the dealer for the modification list that applies to your quote.

Illustrated run of white shaker base cabinets under a countertop, with a blue end panel on the left and a green filler strip, purple scribe molding and yellow toe kick labeled against an uneven wall on the right
A stocked line closes gaps with fillers, end panels and scribe molding; semi-custom sizing changes the cabinet itself.

Fabuwood works the other way. Allure comes in standard sizes on 3″ width steps, and fillers, end panels and scribe molding take up the difference against a wall. There is no inset door anywhere in the Fabuwood catalog, and its wood looks come from Fabuwood’s own stains and oak finishes rather than a species menu. If the drawing depends on a shallow base, a nonstandard height or an inset face, Schrock’s Boutique series can build it and Fabuwood can’t; if it doesn’t, those options add cost you won’t use.

A White Shaker Either Way: Stock Whites and Paint Programs

The GardenWeb thread that keeps this pairing in search results was written by someone ordering a white shaker who had heard complaints about the finish on both brands. On paint programs they are closer than the price tags suggest. Schrock’s Color by Number includes any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color, on maple and MDF in Trademark and on maple, MDF and quartersawn oak in Boutique; Entra isn’t listed for it. Fabuwood finishes any framed Allure door in any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color at the factory, and it also stocks whites such as Galaxy Frost and Galaxy Dove that ship in 7 days to 3 weeks.

Finish complaints on painted cabinets usually come down to hairline cracks at door joints, chips on edges, or a white that reads cooler or warmer than expected. None of that shows in a brochure. Schrock’s own FAQ says not to pick a color from a screen or printout and to look at a door sample or display at the dealer. We say the same about Fabuwood: order a door sample, put it next to your counter sample in daylight, and check the corners of the frame before you commit.

Planning to Rent or Sell Within a Few Years

That same poster said the house would be sold or rented within a couple of years, and that changes how to read the warranty. Schrock’s limited lifetime warranty covers a person who buys and installs the cabinets in a home they own and use as a primary or secondary residence, or a builder installing them for the first owner-occupant. It excludes rental properties, including vacation rentals, and says it can’t be assigned or transferred. Decorative hardware is covered for one year and lighting or powered parts for two.

Fabuwood’s limited lifetime warranty covers the original purchaser and runs through the dealer who sold the cabinets. If the kitchen will end up in a rental, ask either seller for the written terms and confirm how rental use is treated before you sign; a lifetime label means little if the next occupant pays rent. For a short-horizon project, the durability of the box and drawers you actually receive tends to matter more than the length of the warranty.

Fabuwood vs Schrock: How We’d Price the Same Kitchen

We sell only one of these two brands, so weigh our view with that in mind. For a white shaker kitchen in standard sizes, Allure gives you the plywood box, dovetail drawers and Blum® hardware that a Schrock quote reaches only at Trademark with all-plywood construction or at Boutique. A 10×10 in framed Allure typically lands at $4,000–$7,000, and a Galaxy B12 base is $560 (Desert Oak and Natural Oak run about 20% higher). Schrock doesn’t publish prices; semi-custom lines on our cost estimator typically run $400–$650 per linear foot, and a promotion can move any dealer quote.

Schrock earns its place when the plan needs Boutique’s inset doors, a stained cherry or walnut, or cabinets sized to the wall. If what you want is the MasterBrand construction with a dealer who ships nationwide, Diamond is the sibling we carry — Schrock’s own FAQ says the construction is consistent across its MasterBrand brands while doors and colors vary. And if the budget is the tight constraint, as it was for the Houzz poster weighing Schrock, Wolf, J&K and Fabuwood, J&K Cabinets ships flat-pack with plywood boxes and dovetail drawers under a 5-year limited warranty. Send us the Schrock drawing and a designer will reply within one business day, with a free 3D design and itemized Fabuwood quote usually within 24–48 hours.

FAQ

Fabuwood vs Schrock FAQ

Common questions about how these two compare.

It depends on the series and construction on the quote. Schrock’s standard box uses ½″ furniture-board sides with an all-plywood upgrade, and Boutique is all plywood. Fabuwood Allure uses a ½″ veneered plywood box as standard. Both build solid-wood dovetail drawers; Schrock Trademark and Fabuwood both use Blum® glides, while Entra lists standard soft-close glides.

Only Boutique, or another series with the all-plywood construction upgrade. Schrock’s construction page lists ½″ furniture-board sides, ⅜″ furniture-board top, bottom and back, and ¾″ furniture-board shelves for the standard box.

No. Schrock’s limited lifetime warranty covers a first residential purchaser who installs the cabinets in a home they own and use as a primary or secondary residence, and it excludes rental and vacation-rental properties. It is not transferable, except from a builder to the first owner-occupant. Ask any seller for written warranty terms if the home may be rented.

Both are MasterBrand brands. Schrock’s FAQ says construction and quality are consistent across Schrock, Diamond and Kemper, while door styles and finish colors vary. They are separate catalogs, so a door name or color at one won’t necessarily exist at the other.

Schrock doesn’t publish lead times, so ask the dealer for a ship date in writing. Fabuwood Galaxy ships in 7 days to 3 weeks and the other Allure collections in 3–5 weeks.

No. We are an authorized Fabuwood dealer and also carry Diamond, a MasterBrand sibling of Schrock, and J&K Cabinets. We don’t carry Schrock, but we can price your Schrock layout in Fabuwood or Diamond so you can compare.
