The best small bathroom vanities are narrow sink bases with a drawer stack beside them, not narrow cabinets crammed under the bowl. In the cabinet lines we sell, the narrowest box that takes a sink is 21 inches wide, every vanity box is 21 inches deep, and real drawers live either in a sink-and-drawer combo or in a separate drawer base next to the sink. For most small full baths that means a 30-inch combo with three drawers, $757.25 in Fabuwood Galaxy at our October 2026 prices; for a powder room, a 21- or 24-inch sink base. We don't sell a true corner vanity or a wall-hung one, and this guide says so plainly before showing what works instead.
Key takeaways
- The narrowest vanity sink base we price online is Fabuwood's 21-inch VSB21-34 at $422.50. Anything narrower in the bath range is storage only, with no plumbing preparation.
- A 30-inch sink-and-drawer combo costs $295.75 more than a plain 30-inch sink base and gives you three working drawers. In a one-cabinet bathroom, it's usually the best spend.
- Drawers can't sit where the trap is. A drawer base has a 2-inch gap behind its drawers, not room for a drain, so drawers go beside the sink, in a combo or a separate stack.
- The model code sets the floor for the room around it: 21 inches clear in front of the sink, 15 inches from the toilet's centerline to the vanity. NKBA's comfortable numbers are 30 and 18.
- Every vanity box in our spec books is 21 inches deep. A shallower box means a paid depth cut that we check against your sink first.
- No corner vanity and no wall-hung vanity in our catalog. A footed platform buys some of the floating look for $386.75 to $490.75.

The Narrowest Vanity Boxes We Sell, Inch by Inch
"How narrow can a vanity be?" has two answers. One is the narrowest cabinet that can hold a sink. The other is the narrowest cabinet you can put in a bathroom at all, which is much smaller, because a storage box doesn't need room for a drain.
The table uses Fabuwood Allure Galaxy codes because that is the line where we can quote every width to the cent. All of these boxes are 34½ inches tall and 21 inches deep, per the vanity pages of the Allure spec book. Prices are the ones displayed in our store, the same across Galaxy's twelve standard finishes.
| Width | Takes a sink? | Boxes at this width | Cheapest | Drawer version |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12″ | No | Full-height door, drawer over door, three-drawer stack | $328.25 (VB12FD) | $601.25 (VDB12-34) |
| 15″ | No | Full-height door, drawer over door, three-drawer stack | $341.25 | $627.25 (VDB15-34) |
| 18″ | No | Drawer over door, three-drawer stack | $390.00 (VB18-34) | $672.75 (VDB18-34) |
| 21″ | Yes, single door | Sink base, three-drawer stack | $422.50 (VSB21-34) | $718.25 (VDB21-34), no sink |
| 24″ | Yes | Sink base, drawer stack, full-height door, drawer over door, wall cabinet | $438.75 (VSB24-34) | $760.50 (VDB24-34), no sink |
| 30″ | Yes | Sink base, sink-and-drawer combo, door bases | $461.50 (VSB30-34) | $757.25 (VSD30DL/DR, with sink) |
| 36″ | Yes | Sink base, sink-and-drawer combo, full-height door | $490.75 (VSB36-34) | $783.25 (VSD36DL/DR, with sink) |
Two readings matter for a small room. First, 21 inches is the floor for a vanity with a basin; below that, the bath range is all storage, built without the open back a sink base needs. Second, drawers that come with a sink only start at 30 inches. Under 30, drawers in the same run as the bowl come from a second box beside it.
A 21-inch box works in a powder room with a small oval undermount bowl or a vessel, and is usually too tight for a rectangular undermount. Check the bowl's minimum cabinet size before ordering either. The VSB24-34 costs only $16.25 more and gives the bowl three more inches, which is why we steer people to 24 whenever the wall can spare it. On a 21-inch box there's rarely room for an 8-inch widespread faucet, so a single-hole faucet is the usual pick. Sink types, tops and faucet drilling are covered in our vanity cabinet only vs with a top guide, and the full width chart lives in our bathroom vanity sizes and heights guide.
Clearances and Depth: How Small You Can Go
In a tight room the cabinet catalog is rarely the limit; the floor around the fixtures is. The International Residential Code covers fixture spacing in Section R307.1 and plumbing Section P2705.1, and the NKBA's Bathroom Planning Guidelines print those minimums next to roomier recommendations. Your city may have amended them, so your inspector has the final word.
| Measurement | Code minimum | NKBA recommends |
|---|---|---|
| Clear floor in front of the sink | 21″ | 30″ |
| Sink centerline to a side wall | 15″ | 20″ |
| Toilet centerline to the vanity | 15″ | 18″ |
A 21-inch box against a wall puts the bowl about 10½ inches off it, so the narrowest sink bases need a filler, a drawer column or open space on the wall side. Plan the toilet clearance to the edge of the countertop, which overhangs the box. P2705.1 also says fixtures and piping may not interfere with the operation of windows or doors, and NKBA adds that no door should interfere with the safe use of fixtures or cabinets.
Drawers raise the stakes. A door swings to the side; a drawer comes straight out toward you, and you need standing room in front of it. In a room that only just clears 21 inches, put the drawers where the floor in front of them is widest.
Depth is the other limit. Fabuwood Allure and Illume, US Cabinet Depot, KCD and J&K all build their vanity boxes 21 inches deep, per their spec books, so we don't stock an 18-inch-deep vanity. Fabuwood lists paid depth cuts for sink and drawer bases (CUT-SBASE, CUT-DBASE), but a shallower box leaves less room for the faucet and drain, so we check a cut against the actual sink before quoting it. The rule we use: if you have more than 30 inches clear in front of a standard top, keep the standard depth and spend your effort on width and drawers. If a room truly can't take 21 inches of cabinet, hang the sink on the wall and put the storage elsewhere.
Bathroom Vanity With Drawers or Doors: Which Stores More
Drawers beat doors for almost everything people keep in a bathroom. Toothbrushes, razors, medicine and makeup are small things you sort rather than stack, and a drawer brings the back of the cabinet to you instead of leaving it to baskets on a shelf.
Doors still win for a plunger, a tall bottle of cleaner, a bin or a spare pack of toilet paper. That's why a small room usually wants one of each: drawers for the daily things, one door for the tall ones.
| Front | 18″ price | 30″ price | Holds best | Weak spot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drawer over door (VB) | $390.00 | $555.75 | Daily items up top, tall bottles below | One drawer only; shelf space below gets cluttered |
| Three-drawer stack (VDB) | $672.75 | No 30″ size; 27″ is $802.75 | Small items, sorted by drawer | Nothing tall stands up in it |
| Sink base (VSB) | Not offered | $461.50 | The sink and a few spare rolls | The trap fills the middle |
| Sink-and-drawer combo (VSD) | Not offered | $757.25 | Sink plus three working drawers | Bowl sits off center; handing is fixed |
At 18 inches the three-drawer stack costs $282.75 more than the drawer-over-door. That is the price of three dovetailed drawer boxes on soft-close runners against one, and in a bathroom you open every morning it's usually worth paying. Our guide to dovetail drawers explains the joinery, and undermount vs side-mount slides covers the runners.
How to split three drawers in a shared bath: Fabuwood's VDB stacks have a 6¾-inch top drawer front over two 11¼-inch fronts, per the Allure spec book. The shallow top drawer takes toothbrushes and razors, the middle one makeup or medicine in a divided tray, the bottom one spare bottles standing upright. Give each person a drawer they own rather than half of two.
An "all drawer bathroom vanity" can't hold a sink with a standard drain. In our catalog the all-drawer boxes are the VDB stacks, and they belong beside the sink base.
Plumbing Clearance: Where Drawers Can and Can't Go
Every drawer problem in a vanity comes back to one fact: the drain drops into a P-trap and turns into the wall somewhere around the middle of the cabinet. A full-depth drawer box would run straight through it.
On Fabuwood's vanity drawer bases and vanity bases, the spec book notes a 2-inch clearance between the drawer and the back panel. Two inches is room for the box to close, not room for a trap. So a VDB stack is never the cabinet under the bowl; cutting one on site to fit a drain ruins the drawers it was bought for.
That leaves four honest arrangements:
- A sink-and-drawer combo. The VSD boxes split one cabinet into a sink section with doors and a stack of real drawers to one side; on the VSD30 the stack is three drawers. The bowl sits off center, so the mirror and faucet follow it.
- A sink base with a separate drawer stack beside it. The same idea from two boxes. It lets you choose the drawer width but needs more wall and usually costs more.
- A pull-out inside the sink base. The UVTCPO-30 BLUM ($646.75) is a U-shaped pull-out for a 30-inch vanity sink base; its sides pass either side of the trap, and it carries an 8-quart bin plus four movable dividers. The VOPO-24 BLUM ($659.75) is made for the VSB24-34: a reversible organizer that slides out holding six acrylic bins.
- Moving the plumbing. A plumber can sometimes set the drain lower or offset it. That's a job for your plumber and local code, worth asking about only when the walls are already open.
None of the sink bases in the spec books we order from is listed with a notched drawer that wraps the drain; on the framed lines, the top of a sink base is a false front. The U-shaped pull-out also needs the drain to leave the wall high enough to clear its frame, so photograph the plumbing under the old vanity with a tape measure in the shot and send it with your measurements.
Small Bathroom Vanities, Priced: Six Builds From 21 to 36 Inches
These are the six builds we draw most for powder rooms and small full baths. Prices are cabinet-only, displayed in our store for Fabuwood Galaxy in any of its twelve standard finishes; Desert Oak and Natural Oak run about 20% higher. Countertop, sink, faucet and installation are extra.
| Wall available | Build | Working drawers | Cabinet price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 21″–23″ | VSB21-34 single-door sink base | 0 | $422.50 | Powder room with a mirror cabinet for storage |
| 24″–29″ | VSB24-34 + VOPO-24 BLUM pull-out | 0 (pull-out with 6 bins) | $1,098.50 | Small hall bath, one user, no room for a second box |
| 30″–35″ | VSD30DL or VSD30DR combo | 3 | $757.25 | The one-cabinet bathroom |
| 30″–35″ | VSB30-34 + UVTCPO-30 BLUM U-shaped pull-out | 0 (pull-out with bin) | $1,108.25 | Centered bowl and a hidden bin |
| 36″–41″ | VSD36DL or VSD36DR combo | Drawer bank on one side | $783.25 | Most storage per dollar in one box |
| 36″–41″ | VSB24-34 + VDB12-34 | 3 | $1,040.00 | Wider bowl area, drawer column at the wall |
The combos are the value play. A VSD30 gives three drawers for $295.75 more than a plain 30-inch sink base, and the 36-inch combo costs $266.50 less than building the same width from a 21-inch sink base and a 15-inch drawer stack ($1,049.75), because two boxes mean two carcasses. The pull-outs are the premium play: they earn their price where a combo won't fit or the bowl has to stay centered under a window. Skip them in a guest powder room.
A worked example. A 5-by-7 hall bath has 32 inches between the tub and the toilet's 15-inch side clearance. The VSD30 fits with an inch of filler each side, as long as the countertop finishes flush with the fillers: a top that overhangs on the toilet side eats into that clearance. Put the drawers on the side away from the toilet and choose the handing at order time: the spec book says the combo "can't be reversed R/L after assembled." For $757.25 in cabinetry, that bathroom gets a sink, a cupboard for tall bottles and three drawers.
Corner Vanity Bathroom Cabinets: What We Can and Can't Do
A corner vanity bathroom cabinet sounds like the perfect answer for a tiny room, and furniture brands make triangular ones. None of the lines we sell makes a corner vanity, and we don't carry one.
The only corner sink cabinet in our Fabuwood catalog is the kitchen diagonal sink base, DSB36 or DSB36FD, at $617.50 in Galaxy. It is 34½ inches tall, 24 inches deep, and needs 36 inches of wall along each side of the corner, per the Allure spec book. In a bathroom small enough to want a corner vanity, that footprint is bigger than a 30-inch vanity on one wall.
What works instead:
- A 21- or 24-inch sink base tight to the corner, with a filler at the corner. It projects 21 inches instead of the long diagonal of a corner unit.
- A combo with the drawers on the open side, if they'd otherwise hit the return wall. A drawer that opens into a wall is the drawer nobody uses.
- A corner for storage, not the sink: a 12-inch drawer stack or full-height door base in the corner, with the sink on the longer wall.
- A wall-hung corner sink from a plumbing supplier, with the storage in a wall cabinet above the toilet.
Floating Vanities and the Look of More Floor
Floating vanities make a small bathroom feel bigger because you can see the floor run under them to the wall.
We don't sell a purpose-built wall-hung vanity. Our vanity boxes are floor-standing cabinets on a toe kick, designed to carry a stone top from below. Hanging one on a wall is a structural change: blocking in the wall, a load path for the top, and a warranty conversation with the manufacturer. Ask us first, and see floating cabinets, pros and cons for what goes into the wall when cabinets hang.
What we can sell gets you partway there. Fabuwood's vanity platforms replace the toe kick with a 1-inch-thick base. With bun feet under it, the platform raises the cabinet about 5 inches, and roughly four inches of tile shows underneath. Flat platforms run $217.75 for a 24-inch vanity up to $321.75 for a 60-inch; footed ones run $386.75 to $490.75. A 24-inch sink base on a footed platform is $825.50 in cabinetry, and the feet carry levelers that help on an out-of-level tile floor.
It isn't floating, but it reads lighter, and it needs nothing special from the wall. The Fabuwood bathroom vanity guide lists the platform profiles and feet in full.
Powder Room or Full Bath, and Storage Beyond the Vanity
A powder room has a toilet and a sink, no shower and little humidity. Spend on looks there and keep the cabinet simple: a 21- or 24-inch sink base holds spare rolls, hand towels and a bottle of cleaner, and drawers are optional. A small full bath is used every morning and steams up daily, so drawers come first: count the people who share it and give each one a drawer, which usually points to a 30-inch combo or a sink base plus a 12- or 15-inch drawer stack.
A full bath also needs a working exhaust fan. Fabuwood's warranty, for one, excludes damage from moisture and humidity, and the EPA's guide to mold and moisture suggests running the fan or opening a window while you shower and keeping indoor humidity under 60 percent.
A wall cabinet over the toilet
The wall above the toilet is the most wasted space in most small baths. Fabuwood's WVS2430 is a vanity wall cabinet, 24 inches wide and 30 inches high, at $490.75 in Galaxy. It holds towels and backup supplies and matches the vanity finish. Check that its doors clear any shower curtain rod.
A narrow column beside the vanity
If the wall gives you 12 inches beside the sink base, use them. The VB12FD full-height door base ($328.25) takes a slim hamper or tall bottles; the VB12-34 ($364.00) puts a drawer over a door; the VDB12-34 ($601.25) is a three-drawer stack, the most organized storage per inch of wall the bath range offers. A "vanity and tall cabinet combo" usually means a linen column, which comes from the kitchen tall cabinets, so check its depth against the doorway.
Organizers that earn their space
The VASR-30 ($240.50) is a door-mounted rack with two small stainless bins, designed for a 30-inch vanity base, which keeps a hair dryer and brush off the counter. Most of these pieces are listed under vanity accessories. Our drawer organizer ideas apply just as well under a bathroom counter, and the space-saving cabinet solutions guide has more for tight rooms.
Small Vanity Options in the Other Lines We Carry
Fabuwood's 21-inch sink base is the narrowest we price online, which is why the prices above come from Galaxy. Prices in the other lines vary by finish, so this table lists sizes only.
| Line | Narrowest sink base | Narrow drawer option | Drawers with the sink | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fabuwood Allure (framed) | 21″ VSB21-34 | 12″ VDB12-34 three-drawer | 30″ and 36″ combos, handed | The 30″ combo isn't offered in the Nexus door |
| US Cabinet Depot (framed) | 24″ VS24 or VS24FH | 12″ 3VDB12 three-drawer | 30″ and 36″ combos, drawers left or right | 42″ and 48″ double-drawer-stack combos for bigger rooms |
| KCD (framed) | 21″ V21 in some door styles; 24″ V24-2 | 12″ VDB12 drawer base | 30″ and 36″ combos, drawer left or right | Boxes 34.5″ high, 21″ deep |
| Fabuwood Illume (frameless) | 24″ VSB24SFD single door | 12″ three-drawer vanity base | Roll-outs available for 21″-deep vanity cabinets | 30″ box on legs; slab doors |
US Cabinet Depot is worth a look for a painted color Fabuwood doesn't stock: its vanity range is listed in 28 finishes on our store as we write, from Shaker White and Navy to Haven Sage. See the US Cabinet Depot review, KCD review or Illume review, or browse the USCD brand page. One box-material point matters more in a bath than a kitchen: Illume uses furniture board, the framed lines plywood, and furniture board swells if a slow leak finds an exposed edge. Our furniture board vs plywood comparison goes through it.
Mistakes We Catch on Small Vanity Orders
- A drawer base ordered as the vanity. It has no plumbing preparation. The sink cabinet must be a sink base or a combo.
- The combo handed the wrong way. Drawers that open against the toilet or into the door's swing get used once, and the handing can't be reversed after assembly.
- A bowl bought before the box. In a 21- or 24-inch cabinet there's almost no slack, so choose the sink first.
- Drawers in the door's path. Open the bathroom door fully on the drawing and check every drawer against it.
- No filler at the wall. A drawer stack jammed against a wall can't open past the door casing or trim.
- An exposed end left raw. A side that faces the room needs a finished end or a panel. Our guide to end panels, scribe molding and fillers shows how.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the smallest bathroom vanity with a sink?
In the lines we sell, Fabuwood's 21-inch VSB21-34, a single-door sink base at $422.50 in Galaxy. Every narrower bath cabinet is storage with no plumbing preparation. US Cabinet Depot and Illume start their sink bases at 24 inches; KCD lists a 21-inch V21 in some door styles, so ask if you need that width in a KCD finish.
What size vanity is best for a small bathroom?
Usually 24 to 30 inches. A 24-inch sink base suits a powder room; a 30-inch sink-and-drawer combo suits a small full bath where the vanity is the only cabinet. The vanity sizes guide works out what fits a 5-by-8 room.
Can you put drawers under a bathroom sink?
Not full-depth ones, because the trap is in the way. You can put drawers beside the sink in a combo or a separate drawer stack, or fit a U-shaped pull-out such as the UVTCPO-30 BLUM ($646.75) that wraps around the drain inside a 30-inch sink base.
Do you sell 18-inch-deep or shallow vanities?
No. Every vanity box in our spec books is 21 inches deep. Fabuwood offers a paid depth cut for sink and drawer bases, which we check against your sink before quoting. In a room that can't spare 21 inches, a wall-hung sink is the honest answer.
Do you sell corner bathroom vanities?
No. Our only corner sink cabinet is the kitchen DSB36, which needs 36 inches along each wall at 24 inches deep, too big for most small baths. A 21- or 24-inch sink base tight to the corner usually works better.
Can I make a vanity look like it floats?
We don't sell a wall-hung vanity. A footed platform replaces the toe kick, lifts the cabinet about 5 inches and shows the floor beneath it, from $386.75 for a 24-inch vanity.
How much does a small vanity with drawers cost?
In Fabuwood Galaxy, a 30-inch combo with three drawers is $757.25 and a 36-inch combo is $783.25, cabinet only. A 24-inch sink base with a 12-inch drawer stack beside it is $1,040.00. Tops, sinks, faucets and installation are extra.
