Four ways to build a 30-inch vanity, and which side the drawers go

If there is a default bathroom vanity in America it is thirty inches wide, and this is the width where the catalog stops offering variations on a cupboard and starts offering a cabinet with a drawer bank built into it. Choosing between those two is the decision; choosing which side the drawers land on is the one people get wrong.
The four builds
All four are the standard bath carcass, 34 1/2" high and 21" deep. What they do with the space under the counter is entirely different.

Left-hand or right-hand
The combo is sold as a matched pair — drawers on the left (VSD30DL) or drawers on the right (VSD30DR) — at the same price, and the handing is described as you stand facing the cabinet. Once it is ordered it cannot be swapped, so settle it from the room rather than from the elevation drawing.
Three things decide it. Put the drawers away from the toilet, so nobody is standing over a fixture to open one. Put them away from the door swing, so a half-open bathroom door does not block the stack. And where the vanity sits in a corner, put the drawers on the open side, because a drawer against a return wall is the one nobody uses.
What the drawers are worth
The combo costs $295.75 more than the plain sink base. Bought as separate cabinets, the same storage is a sink base plus a narrow drawer column, which lands well past that figure and needs more wall than 30" to stand in. As an upgrade, this is one of the better-value moves in the bath range.
The counter-argument is the bowl. In a combo the basin sits off to one side, which suits a run against a wall and looks deliberate under an offset mirror — but it looks like a mistake under a mirror centred on the cabinet. Decide the mirror and the light position at the same time as the cabinet, not afterwards.
The cheapest box with a hole in it
Ordering the plain sink base for a family bathroom because it was the cheapest box with a hole in it, and then living with a room that has no drawer in it at all. The space under a bowl is the least useful storage in the house: the trap takes the middle, the pipes take the back, and what is left is a wet cupboard.
The second is the top. A 30" run of cabinet does not take a 30" top — allow the overhang at any exposed end, and if the vanity sits between two walls, allow the scribe as well. Measure the boxes as installed before the top is templated.

- What is the standard bathroom vanity width?
- Thirty inches is the most common single-bowl size, with 24" below it for powder rooms and 36" to 48" above it where the wall allows. Sixty inches is the usual starting point for a genuine double.
- Should vanity drawers be on the left or the right?
- Away from the toilet, away from the door swing, and on the open side if the cabinet sits in a corner. Handing is described facing the cabinet, and it is fixed at the factory — the two versions cost the same but cannot be exchanged after the fact.
- How much is a 30 inch vanity cabinet?
- The sink base and the full-height door base both display at $461.50, the drawer-over-door at $555.75 and the sink-and-drawer combo at $757.25 in either handing.
- Can you fit two sinks in a 30 inch vanity?
- No. Two basins with usable space between them need about 60" of cabinet. At 30" the realistic upgrade is a single bowl with a drawer bank beside it.
- Is a 30 inch vanity big enough for a main bathroom?
- For one person, yes. For two sharing a morning routine it is workable only in the combo build, where the drawer bank gives each person somewhere to keep things. If the wall offers 36" or more, use it.
