Standard wall oven cabinet dimensions are 33 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 84, 90 or 96 inches tall, built for a 30-inch wall oven. A 30-inch oven usually needs a cutout about 28½ inches wide and 23½ to 24 inches deep, and the height depends on the appliance: roughly 27 to 29½ inches for a single oven, about 42 inches for an oven-microwave combo and about 50 to 52 inches for a double. Microwaves have their own sizes: a 30-inch-wide, 21-inch-deep wall cabinet, or a 24- or 30-inch base cabinet for a microwave drawer.

We sell cabinets for a living, and appliance cabinets are where most ordering mistakes happen: the cabinet has one size, the appliance another, and the opening between them is cut on site. This guide lays out the real numbers from the spec books we order from, checks them against manufacturer installation guides for a GE double oven, a Whirlpool single oven, a GE combo and a Sharp microwave drawer, and prices the Fabuwood Allure SKUs at the prices on our site. If you want tall cabinets in general (pantries, utility towers, heights by ceiling), our wall and tall cabinet guide covers them. This page is just the appliance boxes.

Key Takeaways
  • The tower: Fabuwood Allure oven cabinets are 33″ × 24″ in 84″, 90″ and 96″ heights, trimmed on site to a 27″–31″-wide opening that is 28½″–37″ high (single), 39⅜″–44″ (combo) or 50¾″–55½″ (double).
  • Always use your appliance's spec sheet. The GE, Whirlpool and Sharp numbers below are examples. Choose the appliance before you order the cabinet.
  • Prices on our site (Galaxy painted and stained finishes): towers run $1,599.00–$1,920.75, the BOC30 under-counter oven base is $598.00, and microwave wall cabinets are $708.50–$773.50.
  • Microwaves: MC wall cabinets are 30″ wide and 21″ deep; a microwave drawer goes in a BMC24 or BMC30 base matched to its cutout.

Wall Oven Cabinet Dimensions at a Glance

Here are the appliance cabinets we order most often, with box sizes and the appliance openings from Fabuwood's Allure spec book (version V.01.20.25, which you can download from our spec book library). Each "opening" is the range the cabinet can be trimmed to. It is not a fixed hole.

Microwave base cabinet (BMC24 / BMC30) 24″ or 30″ × 34½″ × 24″ Up to 22½″ (BMC24) or 28½″ (BMC30) wide, 12½″–18¾″ high Sits under the countertop
Microwave shelf cabinet (MW3018) 30″ × 18″ × 12″ Open bay with a 15″-deep extended shelf Countertop microwave sits on the shelf

Only the door above the opening changes with tower height: 11½″ on the 84″, 17½″ on the 90″ and 23½″ on the 96″. Each tower has a fixed shelf above the top drawer, and the 96″ adds a loose shelf up top. (93″ towers are off sale in most Galaxy finishes, so we leave them out.) The rest of the catalog is in our Fabuwood sizes and specs guide.

Cabinet Size vs. Cutout Size: The Three Numbers That Matter

Every appliance cabinet involves three different sizes, and mixing them up causes most of the problems we see. First is the box: 33 × 24 inches for a tower, which is what you plan the wall around. Second is the cutout, the hole the appliance slides into, which comes from the oven maker's installation guide. Third is the trim, the flange on the oven's front that covers the gap around the cutout. The cabinet only has to make the second number work.

Diagram of three 33-inch oven cabinets, single, combo and double, with their appliance opening heights of 28 1/2 to 37, 39 3/8 to 44 and 50 3/4 to 55 1/2 inches and a 27 to 31 inch opening width
Same 33-inch box, three opening heights: 28½–37″ single, 39⅜–44″ combo, 50¾–55½″ double, each trimmed to 27–31″ wide.

Fabuwood ships its oven towers with a full panel in the face frame, and your installer cuts it to the appliance's cutout on site (the spec book is clear this is not done by Fabuwood). That's why one 33″ tower can hold different brands, and why the cut has to be right the first time. Width is rarely the problem: a 30″ oven usually wants about 28½″ (GE's double lists 28½″–28⅝″, Whirlpool's single 28½″ minimum), well inside the 27″–31″ trim range. Height is what decides the configuration, and each version comes with its own drawer count below the opening. Depth is usually fine too: these appliances ask for 23½″–24″, and most towers are 24″ deep (US Cabinet Depot's printed opening depth is shallower; see the table further down). For the room-level math around a tower, see kitchen dimensions to know before buying cabinets.

Single Oven Cabinets: Sizes and a Real Fit Check

A single wall oven cabinet (Allure OC3384S, OC3390S or OC3396S) holds one oven at chest height with three drawers underneath. It's the most storage you can get from a 33″ tower, and it's also the most expensive of the three versions on our site. The extra drawer boxes are the likely reason.

Here is a fit check using a real guide. Whirlpool's dimension guide for the WOES3030L 30″ single wall oven asks for:

  • a cabinet at least 30″ wide and a cutout at least 28½″ wide
  • a recommended cutout height of 28″, with anything from 27¼″ to 297⁄16″ allowed
  • a cutout 24″ deep
  • 32″ from the floor to the bottom of the cutout for a standard in-cabinet installation
  • a support surface that is solid, level and flush with the bottom of the cutout, and a floor that can carry 200 lb

The Allure single-oven opening can be 28½″ to 37″ high. Whirlpool's recommended 28″ is just below that minimum, but it allows up to 297⁄16″, so a cutout between 28½″ and 297⁄16″ satisfies both. A generic size chart won't show that overlap, which is why we check both documents on every order.

Smaller ovens are different. Retailer size guides list many 27″ ovens at a cutout of about 25¼″–25½″ wide, narrower than the Allure tower's 27″ minimum opening, so tell us the model and let your designer plan it. Allure doesn't make a 24″ tower; Fabuwood's frameless Illume line makes 24″ and 30″ ones.

Double Oven Cabinets: Where Pedestal Rails Change the Cut

A double wall oven cabinet (OC3384D, OC3390D or OC3396D) stacks two ovens and leaves room for one drawer below. Its opening range is 50¾″ to 55½″ high, and the ovens can be up to 56″ overall. It's also the least expensive of the three towers, which fits with it having only one drawer.

GE's dimension and installation sheet for the JTD3000 30″ double wall oven shows why you need the exact model before cutting. GE lists two cutout heights. With the pedestal rails, the cutout is 5113⁄16″ to 5115⁄16″, which GE calls its traditional height and recommends for new construction. Without them, the cutout is 50¼″, meant for replacing another brand's double oven in an existing opening. The width is 28½″ to 28⅝″, the depth at least 23½″, and the sheet shows at least 12″ from the floor to the bottom of the cutout.

The pedestal cutout (about 51⅞″) fits easily inside Allure's 50¾″–55½″; the no-pedestal 50¼″ is half an inch below the printed minimum. So with this GE model, plan the pedestal rails, as GE recommends. Keeping existing ovens? Send us the old cutout size first. Our double oven cabinets page lists every finish we stock.

GE also calls for a solid cabinet bottom or two runners rated for up to 400 lb, and a hard-wired junction box (no plug), with a 40-amp breaker at 240 V.

Oven and Microwave Combo Cabinets

A combo tower (OC3384C, OC3390C or OC3396C) is made for a combination wall oven: one appliance with a microwave on top of a full oven. The Allure opening is 39⅜″ to 44″ high, the appliance can be up to 44⅝″ overall, and two drawers sit below.

For a real example, GE lists its GE Profile PT7800SHSS combination wall oven at 43⅜″ high, 29¾″ wide and 26¾″ deep overall. The spec data on that same GE page gives the cutout as 28⅝″ wide, 42¼″ high and 23½″ deep. That cutout fits inside the Allure combo range, and the 43⅜″ height is under the 44⅝″ limit. Confirm the numbers in the installation guide that comes with your unit.

You can also build the combo from two separate appliances, such as a wall oven with a separate built-in microwave above it. Fabuwood's note covers this: with two appliances, you need a filler and a fixed shelf to support the upper one, and both are bought separately. Put them on the order so the installer isn't improvising.

With the microwave in the tower, the space over the cooktop is free for a real hood; see our guide to range hood types and parts.

Under-Counter Oven Cabinets: The BOC30

A wall oven doesn't have to go in a tower. The Allure BOC30 is a 30″-wide base cabinet, 34½″ high and 24″ deep, that holds a single oven under the countertop. Its opening can be 24″ to 28½″ wide and 21″ to 28″ high, and the oven can be up to 29¾″ tall overall. The front panel gets cut on site, the same way as on the towers.

There are two catches. The first is the oven itself. Whirlpool's guide for installing the WOES3030L under a cooktop asks for a cutout at least 27¾″ high, which is inside the BOC30's 28″ maximum with only ¼″ to spare. The same guide lists the oven's maximum height, including the control console, as 29⅞″, which is ⅛″ over the 29¾″ BOC30 limit. That doesn't prove it won't fit, but it's a difference to settle with both sheets side by side before anything is cut. Under-counter approval also varies by model and cooktop, so check your guide. The second catch: you bend to reach the oven.

The reason to accept both is price. At $598.00, the BOC30 costs $1,160.25 less than the least expensive single-oven tower (OC3384S at $1,758.25), and it keeps the counter continuous. Our guide to base cabinet types covers the other specialty bases that go alongside it.

Oven Cabinets in the Other Lines We Carry

Here's what the other spec books on file print for oven cabinets. These lines are priced on your quote.

Line Oven cabinet sizes Opening as printed What to watch
Fabuwood Allure (framed) 33″ W × 84/90/96″ H × 24″ D; single, combo, double 27″–31″ wide; height by version Full panel cut on site to your oven
Fabuwood Illume (frameless) 24″ or 30″ W; single (3 drawers), combo (2), double (1) Full panel trimmed on site Needs Illume heat shields beside heating appliances
US Cabinet Depot O338424 / O339024 / O339624: 33″ × 84/90/96″ × 24″ 26½″ W × 24⅜″ H × 22¾″ D as shipped Can be opened up to about 31½″ W and about 51¾″ H for a double oven; the 22¾″ opening depth is under the 23½″–24″ most ovens ask for
KCD OC3390 / OC3396: 33″ × 90/96″ × 24″ 30″ W × 24.8″ H No 84″ height listed; includes one shelf
J&K (RTA) 30″ or 33″ W × 84/90/96″ H × 27″ D 27″ or 30″ wide; "trim or add to fit oven" 27″ deep, 3″ deeper than a standard base

USCD's double-oven maximum is "about 51¾″," while GE's pedestal cutout is 5113⁄16″, too close to assume, so with that pairing we'd confirm with the manufacturer or plan the no-pedestal cutout. Its 22¾″ printed opening depth also needs checking against your oven's cutout depth before you order. KCD's printed 24.8″ opening height is shorter than the Whirlpool example's 27¼″ minimum, so ask us how it's modified for your oven. J&K's 27″ depth stands 3″ proud of 24″ bases, changing the countertop return and end panels. Illume boxes are laminate over furniture board, and its spec book requires a steel heat shield on cabinets either side of a heating appliance; Fabuwood won't warranty Illume installed without it. (Our furniture board vs. plywood guide covers box materials.)

Microwave Cabinet Sizes: Wall, Shelf and Base

Beyond the combo tower, a microwave can go in a wall cabinet, a base cabinet or over the range.

Diagram comparing three microwave cabinets: a 30-inch-wide, 21-inch-deep MC wall cabinet, the MW3018 wall box with a 15-inch extended shelf, and BMC24 or BMC30 base cabinets 34 1/2 inches high and 24 inches deep
Three ways to house a microwave: a 30″ × 21″-deep MC wall cabinet, the MW3018 box with a 15″ shelf, or a BMC24/BMC30 base at 34½″ × 24″ deep.

Built-in microwave cabinet. Allure's MC303021, MC303621 and MC304221 are 30″ wide and 21″ deep, in 30″, 36″ and 42″ heights, so they line up with the tops of 30″, 36″ or 42″ uppers. The bay can be trimmed to 24″–28½″ wide and 13″–19¾″ high, it takes a trim kit up to 21″ tall, and a lift-up stay door covers the storage above, so it's a microwave cabinet with storage built in. They take a countertop-style microwave with the maker's trim kit, so confirm a kit exists for your model. At 21″ deep it stands 9″ proud of 12″-deep uppers, so it usually ends a run. (A 39″ version exists, but in most Galaxy finishes it's no longer on sale.) Shop them on our microwave wall cabinets page.

Shelf box. The MW3018 is a normal-depth wall cabinet, 30″ wide, 18″ high and 12″ deep, with a 15″-deep extended shelf underneath that has rounded 3″-radius corners. The shelf ships loose and is installed on site. It gets a countertop microwave off the counter for $360.75 without cutting anything. KCD's MWC3018 (15.5″-deep shelf) and USCD's WMS3018 (17″-deep shelf) are the same 30″ × 18″ × 12″ idea; J&K's WBL walls add a 16″-high open shelf that overhangs 5¼″.

Over the range. An over-the-range microwave hangs under a short wall cabinet, and the mounting height comes from the microwave's installation guide, not from us. Our wall cabinet mounting-height section explains how that gap is set.

Microwave Drawer Base Cabinets

A microwave drawer cabinet is a base cabinet, usually in an island or the run beside the range, and the appliance opens like a drawer. Allure's BMC24 and BMC30 are 24″ and 30″ wide, 34½″ high and 24″ deep. The bay can be up to 22½″ wide on the BMC24 or 28½″ on the BMC30, and 12½″ to 18¾″ high, with trim up to 21″.

Sharp's installation manual for its SMD2470AS and SMD3070AS microwave drawers makes a good test. The 24″ model needs a 24″ cabinet minimum, a 22⅛″ opening width, a 159⁄16″ opening height and at least 23½″ of depth. The 30″ model needs a 30″ cabinet and an opening between 22⅛″ and 287⁄16″ wide. The opening floor must be plywood strong enough for about 100 lb, an anti-tip block holds the drawer, and the outlet goes in the upper left of the cutout or in the next cabinet through a hole at least 1½″ across. On paper the 24″ drawer suits a BMC24 on both width (22⅛″ against the 22½″ maximum) and height; confirm it against your unit's manual before the panel is cut.

Other lines don't always fit. KCD's MBC24 prints a 21″-wide top opening, narrower than the 22⅛″ Sharp asks for, while its MBC30 opening is 27″. USCD's BMW30 opening is 26½″ × 16½″ (trimmable to 20⅛″ high), but it lists a 23″ depth, half an inch short of Sharp's 23½″ minimum. Neither rules the cabinet out for every drawer; both show why the check matters.

Sharp also allows the drawer below any electric or gas wall oven, with at least 2″ of cabinet floor between them; that stack needs a custom opening your designer should draw.

Heat, Weight, Power and Clearance

  • Heat. GE says the cabinets, countertops and wall coverings around a wall oven must withstand up to 200°F. Illume needs its heat shields.
  • Weight. 400 lb of support under a GE double oven, 200 lb for Whirlpool's single, about 100 lb for a Sharp drawer. Put the runners in the plan.
  • Power. Ovens are hard-wired to a junction box; drawers plug into an outlet in a marked zone. Give your electrician the installation sheets before rough-in.
  • Handles and doors. GE notes that its oven handle sticks out 3″ from the door and that cabinets and drawers on adjacent walls should be placed to avoid interference. At an inside corner, that means a filler beside the tower. Our fillers and end panels guide and filler installation guide explain how.
  • Placement. Put towers at the end of a run, not in the middle, and leave landing space beside the ovens. Our kitchen layouts guide shows where towers work in each layout.

What Oven and Microwave Cabinets Cost

These are the prices on our site for Fabuwood Allure Galaxy in its painted and stained finishes. The two oak finishes are priced higher. Galaxy prices are the same across those finishes, so the table works for any paint or stain.

Note that the double tower costs less than the single, and the 36″ microwave wall cabinet less than the 30″. And since these cabinets get cut to an appliance and all sales are final, choose the oven and microwave first, send us the installation guides, then order. Our five-step ordering guide walks through that sequence, the Fabuwood cost guide prices a full kitchen, and every finish is on our oven cabinets page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size cabinet do I need for a 30-inch wall oven?

A 33-inch-wide, 24-inch-deep tall oven cabinet, 84, 90 or 96 inches high. Whirlpool's 30-inch single oven needs a 28½-inch cutout; the Allure opening trims from 27 to 31 inches wide.

How wide is a double oven cabinet?

Standard double oven cabinet dimensions are 33 inches wide and 24 deep for a 30-inch double oven. Allure, US Cabinet Depot and KCD all make 33-inch towers, and J&K makes both 30- and 33-inch versions. Allure's double-oven opening runs 50¾ to 55½ inches high.

How deep is a wall oven cabinet?

24 inches in most lines, the same as a base cabinet, with ovens asking for about 23½ to 24 inches of cutout depth. J&K's towers are the exception at 27 inches deep.

What size cabinet do I need for a microwave drawer?

Match the drawer's width: Sharp specifies a 24-inch cabinet for its 24-inch drawer and a 30-inch cabinet for its 30-inch model. Then check width, height and depth against the manual.

How big is a built-in microwave cabinet?

Allure's are 30 inches wide and 21 inches deep in 30-, 36- and 42-inch heights, with a bay that trims to 24–28½ inches wide and 13–19¾ inches high for a trim kit up to 21 inches tall.

Can a wall oven go under the counter?

Yes, if the model is approved for it. The BOC30 holds an oven up to 29¾ inches tall in a 30-inch base.

Can a microwave drawer go under a wall oven?

Sharp says its drawers can be installed below any electric or gas wall oven with at least 2 inches of cabinet floor between them. The cabinet opening has to be planned for both appliances.
