Galaxy Pistachio Green glass door cabinets: taking the weight off a wall of green

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

The most common worry about a green kitchen is not the colour itself. It is the amount of it. A run of solid painted uppers is the largest block of colour in the room, and it sits exactly at eye height; in a mid-value green that block can feel like a wall closing in, especially in a smaller room. Galaxy Pistachio Green glass door cabinets are one of four honest ways to take some of that weight off without giving up the colour. This page compares all four, works out how many glass fronts a wall of a given length actually wants, looks at what the wood-veneer interior does behind a sage frame, and lists the 19 sizes this finish carries — including the one height it does not.

Why a full run of coloured uppers can feel heavy

Sage green shaker kitchen with solid painted uppers on both sides of a matching painted hood, cream tile backsplash and white stone counters
Solid sage uppers from wall to wall. In a big, bright room it works; in a small or north-facing one the same wall can close in.

Base cabinets are broken up by the counter, drawer lines and handles, and they sit below the eye, so even a dark colour down there feels grounded rather than heavy. Upper cabinets are the opposite. They are a continuous vertical surface at head height, often from the counter backsplash to the ceiling, and whatever colour they are becomes the colour of that wall.

White uppers get away with it because they reflect light and read as part of the wall. A greyed sage like this one is a mid-value colour: it absorbs more light than white and less than a deep green, so it does not recede and it does not dramatically anchor either. In a large, bright kitchen a full wall of it looks rich and deliberate. In a small room, a room with one window, or a north-facing room, the same wall can make the space feel smaller. That is a real effect, not a matter of taste, and it is worth deciding how to handle before the order goes in.

Four ways to lighten a green wall, and what each one costs

There are four ways to reduce the weight of the uppers without abandoning the colour, and they differ in cost, in upkeep and in how much green they leave on the wall. The prices below compare one 30″ × 36″ position.

One 30″ × 36″ wall position, four ways — displayed prices at review
ApproachWhat goes in the positionDisplayed priceWhat it changes
Glass frontsGPG GDW3036$234.00Keeps the green frame; the panel becomes glass and shows the wood interior
Open matching-interior boxGPG NDW3036, no door$542.75Removes the door entirely; the inside is finished to match, so it is an open green niche
Lighter uppers (two-tone)A 30″ × 36″ wall cabinet in Frost, Linen or DovePriced in that finishMoves the green to the bases and island only
Fewer uppersA 36″ Timber floating shelf, GPG LED FLS36 TIMBER$617.50Replaces a box with a wood plank; the wall shows through

The cheapest line on that table is also the strangest, and it needs a careful look. A solid 30″ × 36″ double-door upper, GPG W3036, is $451.75; the glass line at the same size is $234.00. A price that far below the solid box is consistent with the store’s own description of the glass line as an open frame that accepts glass — in other words, the glass may not be included, and the listing may not be a complete cabinet in the way the solid one is. Confirm what ships, whether glass is supplied and which type, before planning around that price.

Of the four, glass keeps the most green on the wall while still breaking up the mass. The open matching-interior boxes take away more weight, but everything on the shelves is on view and collects dust. Two-tone uppers are the biggest change and move the colour conversation to the base cabinets. Fewer uppers is the most open and the most storage lost.

How many glass fronts a wall of uppers actually wants

One glass door on a long wall looks like a stray. Too many and the wall turns into a display case you have to keep tidy. The workable number depends on how much upper cabinetry there is, and a simple rule gets most walls right: glass on no more than about a third of the upper run, placed symmetrically or grouped at one end, never scattered.

Our rule of thumb by length of upper cabinets on one wall
Uppers on the wallHow many glass frontsWhere they usually go
Up to about 8 ftNone, or one pairEither side of a window or the hood, if at all
About 10–12 ftTwo positionsFlanking the window or hood, mirrored
About 14 ft or moreTwo or three positionsGrouped at one end, or a centred set with solid doors either side
A corner where two runs meetOne diagonal corner unitThe corner itself, so it reads as a display point

This is guidance, not a formula — a wall with a big window needs less lightening than a blank one — and a designer drawing the actual wall will judge it better than any table. What it does prevent is the most common mistake: a single glass unit dropped into the middle of a solid run because one was "nice to have". The wall cabinets either side should match its height exactly, which leads to the one catch on this finish, below.

What shows through: wood veneer behind a sage frame

Lit glass-front corner wall cabinet in a white kitchen at dusk, with stemware on glass shelves
A lit glass cabinet at dusk. Shown in white; behind a green frame, the same warm interior sits against sage.

Galaxy boxes have a natural wood-veneer finished interior. Behind a solid door that is simply good construction; behind a glass front, it is on display. On a white kitchen, some people find the warm wood inside a cold white frame unexpected. On this finish it tends to work in the colour’s favour, because green and warm wood is the pairing this green is almost always shown with — oak floors, butcher block, a walnut shelf. The veneer interior brings that wood into the upper wall at no extra cost.

The glass itself has a colour too, which matters more on a green frame than people expect. Ordinary clear glass has a faint green tint, most obvious when you look at its edge. On a white cabinet that tint can make the glass look slightly off; against a grey-green frame it simply blends in. If the glass type is a choice on your order, clear or seeded both sit well here. If you want the inside to look as neutral as possible, ask whether a low-iron (extra-clear) option is available — it is not listed on the store, so do not assume it.

What goes on the shelves is the rest of the picture. Against sage and warm veneer, white dishes, clear glassware and cream or terracotta ceramics look calm; lots of bright mixed colours fight both the frame and the wood. For how this green pairs with counters, tile and metals, see the green cabinets guide.

The 19 sizes on this finish, and the missing 39-inch height

The glass line on this finish comes in five widths at three heights, plus one tall double-door unit and three diagonal corners — 19 positions in all.

24″ diagonal cornerGDWDC2430 $100.75GDWDC2436 $117.00GDWDC2442 $139.75

The one extra is GPG GDWD1860, an 18″ × 60″ double-door glass unit at $188.50, which works as a tall display column at the end of a run or beside a pantry.

Now the catch. The solid wall cabinets on this finish come at 39″ high — GPG W3039, W3639 and the rest — but there is no 39″-high glass unit. If your uppers are 39″, a glass front at 36″ or 42″ will not line up with its neighbours, top or bottom. There are three ways round it: switch the whole run to 36″ or 42″ uppers so the glass matches; use an open matching-interior box, which does come at 39″ (GPG NDW3039, $568.75 for 30″ wide); or keep the 39″ run solid and put the display elsewhere, such as a floating shelf. Settle this before anything else on the page, because it can change the height of every upper in the room.

A lit box in a mid-value wall

A glass cabinet with nothing lighting it is darker inside than the painted face around it. On a white run that contrast is huge; on a sage run it is smaller, because the frame is already mid-value, so an unlit glass front here looks less like a hole and more like a soft shadow. That makes lighting optional rather than essential on this finish — but a lit interior still turns the cabinet into the brightest point on the wall at night, which is most of the reason to have glass at all.

The parts are on the accessories list: the 48″ interior strip at $221.00, a single 2-1/4″ puck at $71.50, or a puck set sized to the cabinet ($91.00 for 15″, $113.75 for 24″, $130.00 for 30″, $146.25 for 36″). Every lit run needs the $204.75 driver. Light from the top of the box washes down over the contents, and glass shelves (if supplied) let it reach the bottom shelf. Keep the colour of the interior light the same as the under-cabinet light, or the glass cabinet will look like it belongs to a different kitchen.

Common questions

Are all-green upper cabinets too much?
Not in a large, bright room. In a small, north-facing or one-window kitchen, a full wall of mid-value green uppers can make the room feel smaller. Glass fronts, open matching-interior boxes, lighter uppers or fewer uppers each take weight off without losing the colour.
How many glass cabinets should a kitchen have?
As a rule of thumb, glass on no more than about a third of the upper run: none or one pair up to about 8 ft of uppers, two positions at 10–12 ft, two or three on a long wall. Place them symmetrically or grouped at one end, not scattered.
Is there a 39 inch glass door wall cabinet in this finish?
No. Glass comes at 30″, 36″ and 42″ high only, while solid uppers also come at 39″. With a 39″ run, change the run height, use an open matching-interior box at 39″ (GPG NDW3039 is $568.75), or keep that run solid.
Glass front cabinets or open shelves with green cabinets?
Glass keeps the green frame on the wall and keeps dust off the contents. An open matching-interior box takes more weight off the wall but everything on it is on view. A wood floating shelf removes the box entirely and adds the warm wood that suits this green.
Why is the glass cabinet so much cheaper than the solid one?
A 30″ × 36″ glass unit is $234.00 against $451.75 for the solid double-door upper. The store describes the glass line as an open frame that accepts glass, so glass may not be included. Confirm what ships before relying on that price.
