Galaxy Linen Hoods

Five wood range hood families, each in three widths. The shell is cabinetry — a finished wood housing built in the collection color or in a wood tone — and it moves no air. The internal blower is a separate line: GLN RHBB 250 CFM at $419.25, 400 CFM at $903.50, 600 CFM at $1,787.50. GLN RHBB DCT, the duct cover at $263.25, hides the duct between the shell top and the ceiling. GLN RHBB FLTR at $71.50 is the replacement filter, and you will buy more than one over the life of the kitchen.

Set those beside the 10×10 kitchen at $3,500.00 and the proportion is plain: a finished hood is somewhere between 90 and 180 percent of a small kitchen’s cabinets. That is not a reason to skip it. It is the reason to make it the deliberate center of the room rather than an afterthought priced on the second quote.

Every family is listed in the matched Linen finish — the SKUs with no tone suffix. Timber is offered on four of the five, Walnut on two. The wall-mount RHA family is the plain one: no wood tones, the lowest prices, and the one most people should price first.

A wood tone costs nothing extra: the Timber and Walnut versions list at the same price as the matched shell in every family that offers them. Note which families come at 48″ — only the wall-mount and the curved glass — so a 48″ range narrows the shape before style enters the conversation.

The RHA SKU carries its dimensions: 363021 is 36″ wide, 30″ high, 21″ deep. The other families give only a width, so their height and depth come from the spec sheet. Ask for it; shell height sets the ceiling on the flanking cabinet heights.

On the white finishes the choice is between a hood that vanishes and a hood that is the only warm object in the room. Here the room is already warm, so the question changes: does the range wall want one tone or two?

One tone — the range hood that matches the cabinets. A matched shell in a run of Linen uppers, with the same crown carried across, reads as a single beige mass from the doorway, and on a full-height range wall that is the most composed this finish gets. The hood is the focal point by size and shape, not by color. Pair it with brass or bronze hardware — which this beige carries better than matte black — and the wall is done.

Two tones. A Timber or Walnut shell against beige is warm on warm, and it works when the rest of the room has already committed: a butcher-block island, an oak floor, travertine, cream quartz with beige movement. In that room a walnut hood over cream-reading beige is the picture people save, and the slim RHS in Walnut is the shell that delivers it. In a room where Linen sits over gray porcelain tile and white quartz, the wood shell is a third idea, and the beige — which already goes muddy against cool gray — loses. Whichever way you go, one wood-tone object. The undercabinet bars and floating shelves come in the same Timber and Walnut, and a kitchen with a Walnut hood, Walnut bars and a Walnut shelf has three accents and no focal point.

Three blowers, one shell. Which one is right is decided by the cooktop, by how far and through how many turns the duct travels to reach outside, and by whether the house can replace the air a 600 CFM unit removes — a big blower in a tight house needs make-up air, and that is a mechanical question for your installer, not a catalog question. A short straight run to an exterior wall behind the range makes the 250 or 400 unit realistic; a long run through a ceiling with two elbows loses capacity, and that is when the 600 earns its $1,787.50.

The duct cover is the piece people forget until the hood is on the wall. A wall-mount shell ends at a fixed height; the duct continues above it to the ceiling, and on a beige wall with a matched shell an exposed section of metal duct is the one thing you will see from the doorway. GLN RHBB DCT at $263.25 closes it. Whether one cover reaches your ceiling depends on the ceiling height and the shell — a 9- or 10-foot ceiling is exactly the case to confirm with us rather than assume.

Filters are a wear item at $71.50; order a spare with the hood. And settle the venting question first. If there is no path outside from the range wall, that changes where the range goes, which changes every cabinet on the wall. It is the first question on the range wall, not the last.

Width first. Never narrower than the cooktop, and one step wider — a 36″ over a 30″ range — is the common choice because a cooktop’s edges are where the smoke escapes. Then the arithmetic of the run: a 36″ hood between two 15″ uppers occupies 66″ of wall; make it a 42″ and the uppers drop to 12″ or the fillers grow. Change the hood width late and you have redrawn the wall, not adjusted it.

Mounting height above the cooktop is set by the appliance maker’s install manual and your local code, and by nothing else — including this page. That number plus the shell height decides how much wall is left for the wall cabinets beside it, and whether they are 30″, 36″ or 42″ tall. Then the finishing parts, all on the decorative accessories page: fillers between the shell and the flanking uppers, the crown profile carried across a matched shell, and skins on any cabinet side the hood leaves exposed. A glass front flanking the shell on both sides is the standard symmetrical move and, on this finish, the place where the veneer interior reads warmest.
