Galaxy Dove wall cabinets: hanging the light half of a two-tone kitchen
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
In a two-tone kitchen the uppers are the light half, and in a one-colour kitchen they are the half the eye lands on first. Either way, Galaxy Dove wall cabinets do a job the bases do not: they set how bright the room reads, and they take their light from the ceiling rather than the window, which is where an off-white asks for one specific decision. This page works through the uppers as a composition — the height of the run, the range wall in the middle of it, the fridge box at the end, and the open or glass pieces that keep a long stretch of off-white from becoming a wall — with every price the grid showed at review.
Light uppers over dark bases: where the split line falls
The counter is the split line. Light uppers make the room read bright; the dark lowers anchor it.
The classic two-tone split puts the colour below the counter and the light finish above it, and it works because a room is read from the top down: light uppers make a kitchen feel taller and brighter, and a coloured base grounds it. An off-white is the better upper for that split than a bright white. Over Galaxy Timber or Galaxy Indigo lowers, Dove keeps the top half from looking like a different, colder kitchen bolted onto a warm one; the seam at the counter reads as a choice rather than a collision.
The rules of the split are short. The counter is the line — do not carry the base colour up into a wall cabinet or the talls, or the logic breaks. Crown, light rail and every upper end panel go in Dove, because they belong to the top half. And a bridging counter, white quartz with soft veining, sits between the two so neither colour has to match it exactly.
In a one-colour kitchen the same logic holds, only the lower half is Dove too, and the question becomes how much of the wall to cover. That is the height decision, and it is cheaper than most people expect.
How high to go: 30, 36 or 42 inches, and what each costs
Uppers start 54″ off the floor. A 30″ box tops out at 84″, a 42″ box at 96″ — the ceiling.
The bottom of every upper sits at 54″ — 36″ of counter plus the 18″ backsplash gap — so the height you buy decides where the run stops. On an 8′ ceiling, 30″ leaves a foot for crown or a display gap; 36″ reaches 90″ and meets the ceiling with crown; 42″ needs a 9′ ceiling. An off-white run to the ceiling has one advantage a beige lacks: Dove up high still reads as white, so a 42″ run does not close a room in the way a full wall of colour can.

From 30″ to 42″ on a 36″ box is about $198 — roughly 47% more for 40% more cabinet — and on a 30″ box the same step is GD W3030 at $383.50 to GD W3042 at $526.50. Across five uppers that is a few hundred dollars for a run that meets the ceiling; whether the top shelf is reachable is the real question, not the money. The wall cabinet sizing guide works the arithmetic for any ceiling, and the double-door and single-door wall pages list every width from 9″ (GD W0930, $208.00) to 39″ (GD W3942, $724.75).
The range wall: the composition in the middle of the run
The uppers over the range are the part of the kitchen that gets photographed, and they are also where the run is interrupted by an appliance. Three pieces compose it. Over the range itself, a short box for the hood or an over-range microwave: a 30″ × 12″ double-door (GD W3012, $234.00) above a hood, a 30″ × 18″ (GD W3018, $253.50) above a microwave hood, or the microwave wall cabinet GD MW3018 at $360.75, which holds a countertop unit on an open shelf with a box above it.
Either side of that, full-height uppers matched in width — two GD W1830 at $273.00 each, or two W2130 at $295.75 — so the short box reads as centred. If the hood is a matched Dove wood hood, it takes the place of the short box and the flanking uppers frame it. A range is the one appliance that is nearly always stainless or black, and the off-white flatters both: the small gap that a white appliance opens beside a Dove door does not arise here.

The fridge box and the end of the run
A run ends in one of two ways: at the refrigerator, or in open air. Over the fridge goes a refrigerator wall cabinet, 24″ deep so its face lines up with the appliance — GD W361224 (12″ high) at $370.50 through GD W362424 (24″ high) at $578.50 for a 36″ fridge, with 30″ and 33″ widths alongside. Flank it with tall side panels and the fridge sits in a Dove frame. A white fridge here is the one place the off-white shows its undertone plainly, because the appliance is large and beside the door at eye level; stainless or panel-ready sidesteps it.
Where the run ends in open air, the last box has three options besides a flat side. An angled wall end (GD WAE1230, $279.50) turns the corner with a shelf face; an open end shelf (GD OE1230, or the 6″ OER630 and OEL630, all $364.00) finishes it with open shelving; and a wine rack column (GD WC0630, $273.00) does the same with bottles. Each is a small break in the off-white that makes the run look designed rather than cut off.
Breaking the run: glass doors, open shelves and the wood inside
Behind glass the natural veneer interior shows — and it sits closer in tone to an off-white frame than to a bright white one.
A long run of any one colour benefits from a gap in it, and the gaps are cheap. A glass door on a standard wall cabinet shows the wood-veneer interior — a warm tone that reads as a near relative of the off-white rather than a contrast to it, which is one of the quiet advantages Dove has over Frost behind glass. The glass door options are priced per door on their own page, GD GDW1830 at $117.00 for an 18″ × 30″ box.
Where you want the interior on show without glass, the open shelf boxes (GD WOS1830 $399.75 to WOS3042 $757.25) and the no-door wall cabinets (GD NDW1830 $367.25, NDW3030 $461.50) come with a finished, matching interior. Where the run turns a corner, the diagonal corner wall GD WDC2430 at $455.00 does it with an angled door, the no-door corner GD NDWDC2430 at $757.25 opens the corner as a display box, and the blind wall GD WBC2430 at $354.25 is the plain-box alternative pushed into the corner behind a filler.
Every box arrives assembled on Blum Blumotion soft-close hinges with Quick-Release, so a door lifts off for painting the wall and clips back on its adjustment. Send an elevation with the ceiling height measured at both ends of the run to the design team and the uppers come back drawn to the ceiling you actually have; the glass door guide covers clear versus seeded versus frosted. The construction detail and the full colour story are on the collection page.
Common questions
What sizes do Fabuwood Dove wall cabinets come in?
Heights of 12″, 15″, 18″, 21″, 24″, 30″, 36″, 39″ and 42″; widths from 9″ to 39″ in 3″ steps; 12″ deep, except the 24″-deep refrigerator and lift-up boxes. 30″ is the standard run on an 8′ ceiling; 42″ reaches a 9′ ceiling with crown.
Do off-white upper cabinets work with dark lower cabinets?
Better than a bright white does. Dove over Timber or Indigo bases keeps the top half from reading as a colder, separate kitchen; the counter is the split line, and crown, light rail and the upper end panels stay in Dove.
What size wall cabinet goes above a 30 inch range?
A 30″-wide box, 12″ high (GD W3012, $234.00) above an under-cabinet hood, or 18″ high (GD W3018, $253.50) above an over-range microwave; check the hood’s clearance to the cooktop before choosing. Flank it with two uppers of equal width so it reads centred.
What wall cabinet goes over a 36 inch refrigerator?
A 36″ refrigerator wall cabinet, 24″ deep so it lines up with the fridge face: GD W361224 (12″ high, $370.50), W361524, W361824, W362124 or W362424 (24″ high, $578.50). Pick the height that closes the gap to the ceiling or crown, allowing for hinge clearance.
How much do Galaxy Dove wall cabinets cost?
From GD W1215 at $172.25 for a 12″ × 15″ single door to GD W3942 at $724.75 for a 39″ × 42″ double door, at the discounted grid prices. The most common box, GD W3030, is $383.50 — the same as in Frost and Linen.
Should upper cabinets go to the ceiling on an 8 foot ceiling?
A 36″ box plus crown does it and adds a shelf; a 30″ box with crown leaves a foot of wall that lifts the run. On an off-white either reads as white, so choose on reach and storage rather than colour — the top shelf of a 36″ box sits at about 90″.
