RTA Cabinets in Florida: Wholesale Buying, Humidity, Tax and Delivery

You can buy RTA cabinets in Florida, and other wholesale-priced kitchens, three ways: from a local showroom, from a cash-and-carry warehouse outlet, or from an online dealer that ships to the house by freight. Any of the three can be a good deal. In Florida the deal is decided less by the price per box than by three local details: whether the box survives the humidity, how much sales tax your county adds, and whether the order lands on a date your installer can use. This guide compares the channels, then works through those three details with the numbers and sources behind them.

We are an online dealer based in New Jersey. We ship to every Florida county, we have no Florida showroom or office, and we sell cabinets only; we don't install them. Read the comparison knowing which of the three we are; we've described the other two as fairly as we can. Our Florida cabinet buying guide collects the rest of our Florida advice.

Key takeaways

  • "Wholesale" is a sign, not a spec. Whoever you buy from, get the box material written on the quote, and ask for a plywood sink base.
  • Sales tax is 6% statewide plus the surtax of the delivery county: 7% in Miami-Dade and Broward, 7.5% in Hillsborough and Duval, 6.5% in Orange and Palm Beach, 6% in Collier (Florida DOR, 2026). On $10,000 of cabinets that's $600 to $750.
  • In-stock items on lines such as Modernform typically ship in 3–5 business days, KCD, Tribeca and J&K ship in 7–10 days, and Mantra and Fabuwood's stock series typically in about 2 weeks; built-to-order Diamond and Decorá typically take 4–6 weeks, plus typically 1–7 business days in transit in the continental U.S. Door to door, plan on about 2–3 weeks for KCD, Tribeca and J&K, 3–4 weeks for Fabuwood stock and Mantra, and 5–8 weeks for Diamond and Decorá.
  • Compare return terms as well as prices. Ours are final sale, so samples and a checked measurement plan come first.
  • Florida contractors and trade buyers can apply for Captivating Pro: trade pricing, one program, no membership tiers. A contractor who installs cabinets under a lump-sum contract is normally the taxpayer on them, so a resale certificate doesn't apply to that job.

Three Ways to Buy Wholesale-Priced Cabinets in Florida

Search for wholesale cabinets in Florida, or discount cabinets, and the results mix three kinds of business under one word. They differ in what you see before you pay, who draws the kitchen and how the boxes reach your house.

Local showroom Warehouse outlet (cash and carry) Online dealer, delivered to Florida
See before you buy Full displays, doors and drawers in hand Boxed stock and a few displays Door samples mailed to your home; 3D renderings of your layout
Who designs In-store designer, often with measuring included Varies; often you bring your own plan Remote designer working from your measurements and photos
Range of lines and finishes The brands the store carries What is in stock that day, usually a few door styles Several brands and their full size catalogs
Getting it home Store delivery or arranged freight Your truck or trailer, same day if stocked Tracked freight, curbside, with liftgate on request
Where the price goes Rent, sales floor, design time Warehouse space; a narrow selection keeps it lean No sales floor, but freight is its own line
Best fit Buyers who want hands-on help and will pay for it Small jobs, rentals and flips that need boxes this week Full kitchens where line choice and price matter more than walking a showroom

A showroom earns its margin when you want someone local to measure and to own the problem if a size is wrong. An outlet wins when speed beats choice: a rental turn in Lakeland needs a 30-inch sink base on Saturday, not twelve door styles. An online dealer suits a whole kitchen where the choice of lines matters, as long as you plan for transit time and handle the receiving. Whichever you pick, compare delivered, taxed totals for the same box material.

What "wholesale" actually means, and why the same box can carry very different prices, is covered in our guide on how to buy wholesale kitchen cabinets; where to buy kitchen cabinets online goes channel by channel. This page sticks to what changes when the kitchen is in Florida.

One Florida note on warehouses. Kitchen Cabinet Distributors (KCD), one of the brands we sell, runs one of its four distribution centers in Apopka, just northwest of Orlando. It serves dealers rather than walk-in shoppers, so you can't buy there. Which warehouse fills a given order is the brand's call, and your quote shows the freight. Our KCD review lists all four centers.

RTA or Assembled for a Florida Kitchen

RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets arrive flat in cartons: sides, back, floor, face frame, doors and hardware bags. Assembled cabinets arrive as finished boxes. The cost gap, assembly hours and quality questions are national topics, covered in what RTA cabinets cost for a full kitchen and RTA vs pre-assembled cabinets. Two parts of the decision change in Florida.

Where the assembly happens. A flat-pack kitchen means dozens of cartons opened and built somewhere, and in much of Florida the obvious place, the garage, is the wrong one for most of the year. Our shipping FAQ allows garage storage only if the garage is climate-controlled, and it excludes damage from improper storage from warranty coverage. Plan to assemble in an air-conditioned room, or choose assembled boxes and skip the problem.

Who does the work. Florida law bars cities and counties from requiring a license for cabinetry (s. 489.117(4)(a), Florida Statutes), but plumbing, electrical and gas work need state-licensed contractors. Check anyone you hire on the DBPR Verify a Licensee search. Whether a cabinet swap needs a permit depends on your city or county and the scope; our Florida cabinet permit guide sorts the cases.

Our rule of thumb: if you or your installer will build the boxes in a cooled room and want the lowest price, RTA is a sound choice. If the only spare space is a hot garage, or the installer bills assembly by the hour, price the assembled version first. You can browse both: flat-pack RTA boxes and pre-assembled cabinets. Our ranking of RTA kitchen cabinet brands shows which lines come flat-pack, assembled or both.

Humidity Decides the Box, Not the Price Tag

A wholesale price on a box that swells at the sink is no bargain. NOAA's long-run airport records put average morning relative humidity at 82% in Miami, 86% in Tampa and 88% in Orlando, Jacksonville and Fort Myers. The warranties we quote most are written for conditioned rooms: the J&K spec book counts anything outside 30–55% humidity or 50–85°F as extreme, and Fabuwood's warranty, printed in the Allure spec book, won't cover cabinets in a home without year-round environmental controls. The air conditioner closes that gap, whichever channel you bought from.

The box covers what the AC can't: a slow drip from a supply line, dishwasher steam on the next panel, a wet mop against a toe kick. The USDA's Wood Handbook describes plywood as undergoing "minimal irreversible thickness swelling if wetted," unlike most panels made from particles. So on a wholesale order, put the plywood where water reaches first: the sink base and the cabinets either side of the dishwasher. Our Florida humidity guide covers indoor humidity targets, doors and finishes, and seasonal homes in full.

When any seller quotes a wholesale price, ask three things in writing: what the sides and back are made of, what the shelves are made of, and what the warranty says about humidity. Particleboard or "engineered wood" doesn't rule a line out for a dry bedroom closet. It should rule it out for the sink base.

Plywood-Box Lines We Ship to Florida

Several of our lines use plywood boxes. Three suit a Florida order for different reasons:

Line Format Box Why it fits a Florida order
Fabuwood Allure Assembled Plywood box and solid wood face frame across all six collections No flat-pack to build in a hot garage; Blum soft-close hardware standard
J&K Cabinetry RTA or assembled ½″–⅝″ cabinet-grade plywood, solid wood doors and frames, dovetail drawers A plywood RTA option, with a warranty that states its humidity range outright
KCD RTA or assembled Premier tier: ½″ 7-ply plywood. Essential tier: engineered wood sides, plywood back One of KCD's four distribution centers is in Apopka, FL; choose Premier for wet zones

With KCD, get the tier named on the quote: the two look alike in a rendering, and only Premier has the plywood box. The Allure series guide and our J&K review go through finishes and series, and the shaker kitchen cabinets page is a quick way to compare door colors across lines. No cabinet is waterproof, plywood included; it buys time after a small leak.

Florida Sales Tax on a Cabinet Order

Florida charges a 6% state sales tax, and most counties add a discretionary sales surtax. The surtax follows the county where the cabinets are delivered, not where the seller is. These are the 2026 rates for the counties around Florida's largest metros, from the Florida Department of Revenue's form DR-15DSS:

County (main city) County surtax, 2026 Combined rate Tax on $10,000 of cabinets
Miami-Dade (Miami) 1% 7% $700
Broward (Fort Lauderdale) 1% 7% $700
Palm Beach (West Palm Beach) 0.5% 6.5% $650
Hillsborough (Tampa) 1.5% 7.5% $750
Pinellas (St. Petersburg) 1% 7% $700
Orange (Orlando) 0.5% 6.5% $650
Duval (Jacksonville) 1.5% 7.5% $750
Sarasota (Sarasota) 1% 7% $700
Lee (Fort Myers, Cape Coral) 0.5% 6.5% $650
Collier (Naples) None 6% $600

The last column is arithmetic on a $10,000 cabinet subtotal for comparing counties, not a quote, and it charges the surtax on the full amount, which is how we suggest you budget (see the cap below). Palm Beach's rate is new for 2026: its 1% infrastructure surtax was repealed effective December 31, 2025, and a 0.5% school surtax began January 1, 2026. Rates change, so check the current DR-15DSS before you budget.

The $5,000 surtax cap. Section 212.054(2)(b)1 says the sales amount above $5,000 on any item of tangible personal property is not subject to the surtax. The cap is per item and covers the county surtax only; the 6% state tax still applies to the full price. Unless a single cabinet costs more than $5,000, it changes nothing on its own. The statute does treat items sold together as one item when, under normal industry practice, they are sold in bulk or assemble into a working unit, and some buyers read that as making a whole kitchen one item. The statute doesn't say cabinets qualify, and we won't promise it. The stakes are small: in Hillsborough, surtax on $5,000 instead of $10,000 would save $75 ($675 total tax instead of $750). Budget the surtax on the full order and ask the Department of Revenue or your tax adviser before counting on the cap.

Buying from an out-of-state seller. Ordering from another state doesn't take the order out of Florida tax. Under section 212.0596, a remote seller whose taxable sales into Florida passed $100,000 in the previous calendar year is a dealer, which means registering with the state and collecting and remitting Florida tax. Our checkout calculates applicable sales tax from the delivery address. Whoever you buy from, look for the tax line before you pay. Contractors who install the cabinets they buy are taxed differently from a homeowner buying at retail; see trade pricing for Florida contractors below.

Lead Times and Delivery to Florida Metros

Every Florida order we ship travels by tracked freight. The lead times in our shipping policy break down like this:

Order type Processing before it ships Transit, continental U.S.
In-stock items (lines such as Modernform) Typically 3–5 business days Typically 1–7 business days
KCD, Tribeca and J&K 7–10 days Typically 1–7 business days
Mantra and Fabuwood stock series Typically about 2 weeks Typically 1–7 business days
Built-to-order lines (Diamond, Decorá) Typically 4–6 weeks Typically 1–7 business days
Fabuwood custom paint / St. Martin Typically 6–8 weeks / 8–10 weeks from final design approval Typically 1–7 business days

Add the two columns for your planning window. That works out to about 2–3 weeks door to door for KCD, Tribeca and J&K and up to about 9–12 weeks for St. Martin; we recommend ordering at least that far ahead of the install date and scheduling delivery 1–2 weeks before installation, so every carton can be inspected and anything damaged replaced before your installer arrives. Your designer confirms timing for the specific line before you pay.

The process is the same in Miami as in Pensacola. The carrier calls 24–48 hours ahead to book an appointment. Standard delivery is curbside: the cartons come off the truck at the curb or the end of the driveway, and moving them inside is up to you. Liftgate service can be included if you ask in advance. Shipping is calculated from weight, size and destination and itemized on the quote before you pay. In a condo, check the association's rules for deliveries and elevator use before booking a date.

Hurricane season. The Atlantic season runs June 1 to November 30, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October, according to the National Hurricane Center. That isn't a reason to avoid ordering in the fall. It is a reason to keep the delivery date a little flexible and a cool, dry room ready, so cartons never sit in a driveway or an open garage while a storm passes.

Metro by Metro: Tax, Humidity and Local Notes

Shoppers looking for wholesale cabinets in Tampa, RTA cabinets in Miami or a cheaper kitchen in Naples, Orlando or Jacksonville are buying the same lines from us, at the same prices and lead times. What changes from metro to metro is the county tax, how damp the air is, and a few delivery details. Each city link goes to that metro's delivery page.

Metro Sales tax, 2026 (county) Average morning humidity (NOAA) What to plan for
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach 7% Miami-Dade, 7% Broward, 6.5% Palm Beach 82% (Miami, West Palm Beach) If the kitchen is in a condo tower, book the service elevator and loading area with the association before you pick a delivery date; our Florida condo renovation guide covers approvals.
Tampa, St. Petersburg 7.5% Hillsborough, 7% Pinellas 86% (Tampa) Hillsborough ties Duval for the highest rate in this table. Budget tax at 7.5% on a Tampa delivery address, not the 6% state rate.
Orlando 6.5% Orange 88% (Orlando) KCD runs one of its four distribution centers in Apopka, just northwest of the city. It serves dealers, not walk-in buyers.
Jacksonville 7.5% Duval 88% (Jacksonville) Winters are drier than South Florida's (mean January dew point 45°F against Miami's 59°F), but July and August average 73°F, within a degree of Miami. Same storage rule: cartons go straight into air conditioning.
Naples, Fort Myers 6% Collier (no surtax), 6.5% Lee 88% (Fort Myers) If the home sits closed through the summer, keep the AC and dehumidifier running; our Florida humidity guide covers seasonal homes.
Sarasota 7% Sarasota No NOAA station in the table; Tampa (86%) and Fort Myers (88%) sit either side Same plan as Tampa and Fort Myers: plywood at the sink, cartons indoors the day they arrive.

Tax rates are from the Florida Department of Revenue's DR-15DSS for 2026; humidity is the annual average of morning readings in NOAA's comparative climatic data, and dew points are NOAA's 1991–2020 hourly climate normals. For the rest of the state, our Florida cabinet buying guide collects the local pages and guides in one place.

Receiving the Order in Florida Heat

The freight-receiving checklist is the same everywhere; it's step 5 of our guide to ordering kitchen cabinets online. In short, from our shipping FAQ: count the cartons against the delivery receipt, note visible damage on the receipt before you sign, unpack and inspect within 48 hours, and report all damage, including concealed damage found when unboxing, with photos within 5 days of delivery and before installation (Modernform orders within 48 hours).

Florida adds one rule: get the cartons out of the heat the same day. Move them into air conditioning, off the slab on pallets or boards, and let them acclimate there for 48 hours before installation. If the house is being remodeled with the AC off, the cabinets should wait somewhere else that is cooled.

Trade Pricing for Florida Contractors

If you buy cabinets for clients, flips or rental units, trade pricing moves the numbers more than any channel choice. Captivating Pro is our trade program: trade pricing on 11 cabinet lines, a free 3D design on every job, and one program with no membership tiers and no account login. It is open to licensed contractors, builders, kitchen dealers, interior designers and other trade professionals; the application asks for a contractor license number, EIN or Tax ID, and most applications are approved within 1–2 business days.

That detail matters in Florida. Because cities and counties can't require a license for cabinetry, a cabinet installer here may have no contractor license number to give, and the EIN or Tax ID route lets them apply as a trade professional. For how trade quotes and volume pricing work on multi-unit jobs, see wholesale kitchen cabinets for contractors.

Sales tax when you install what you buy. Florida's sales tax rule for contractors, Rule 12A-1.051 of the Florida Administrative Code, treats contractors as the ultimate consumers of the materials they use on real property contracts. Installed cabinets are an improvement to real property, so on a lump-sum job you pay sales tax when you buy the cabinets and build it into your price; you don't hand the supplier a resale certificate. The rule is different under a "retail sale plus installation" contract, where the cabinets are sold to the client as a separate, itemized line: a contractor registered as a dealer can then buy them tax-exempt with an Annual Resale Certificate (Form DR-13) and collect tax from the client. Which contract you use is your choice, and your accountant's question; just don't mix the two on one job.

Questions to Ask Any Cabinet Seller

These work for a Fort Lauderdale showroom, an outlet near Tampa or an online dealer like us. Get the answers on the quote, not just in conversation.

  1. What are the box sides, back and shelves made of? Plywood, particleboard, MDF or "engineered wood," cabinet by cabinet if the line mixes them.
  2. What does the warranty say about humidity and climate control? Read the exclusion, not just the length.
  3. RTA or assembled, and who builds it? If RTA, budget the assembly hours and a cool room to work in.
  4. When does it ship, and how long is transit? Ask for processing and transit separately, then add them.
  5. Is freight itemized, and is it curbside, liftgate or something else?
  6. Is Florida sales tax on the quote, at your county's rate?
  7. How do damage claims work? Get the deadlines for visible and concealed damage.
  8. Can I return cabinets I don't need? Policies vary widely. Our return policy makes cabinet purchases final sale, with damaged or defective items handled through claims, so we push hard on measurements and samples before an order is placed.
  9. Can I see the actual door first? A showroom shows it; an online dealer should send door samples. Our guide to ordering and judging cabinet samples explains what to check.

A seller who can't name the box material is telling you something.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy RTA cabinets in Florida?

From local cash-and-carry outlets that stock flat-pack lines, from some showrooms, and from online dealers that ship to Florida by freight. We ship J&K and KCD flat-pack, among other RTA lines, to any Florida address; both ship in 7–10 days, plus typically 1–7 business days in transit within the continental U.S.

How do I compare a wholesale quote from a Florida store with an online one?

Compare delivered, taxed totals for the same box material, not box prices. Freight depends on weight, size and destination, and sales tax runs from 6% in Collier County to 7.5% in Hillsborough and Duval. Check the return terms too.

Can I pick up cabinets from KCD's warehouse in Apopka?

No. KCD's Apopka distribution center serves dealers, not walk-in buyers. Orders ship by freight to your home or job site; your quote shows the freight line.

Do I pay Florida sales tax when I buy cabinets online from another state?

Generally yes. A remote seller whose taxable Florida sales topped $100,000 in the prior calendar year must collect Florida tax, and the county surtax follows the delivery address. Don't assume the $5,000 per-item surtax cap turns a whole kitchen into one item; budget the surtax on the full order.

Can homeowners buy wholesale cabinets in Florida?

Yes. You don't need a license or a trade account to buy from an outlet or an online dealer, and our prices are open to anyone. Trade pricing is the part that needs an application: Captivating Pro is for contractors, builders, designers and other trade buyers. Whatever the price tag says, compare the box material and the delivered, taxed total.

Do Florida contractors pay sales tax on cabinets they install?

Usually yes, at purchase. Under Rule 12A-1.051, a contractor installing cabinets under a lump-sum contract is the consumer of those materials and pays tax when buying them. A resale certificate only fits a retail sale plus installation contract, where the cabinets are sold to the client as an itemized line and the contractor collects the tax. Confirm the setup with your accountant.

Can I return cabinets bought online?

It depends on the seller, so ask before you order. Our cabinet purchases are final sale; shipping damage and manufacturer defects are handled through claims with the carrier or manufacturer. That's why we recommend door samples and a designer-checked measurement plan first.

How far ahead should I order cabinets for a Florida remodel?

About 2–3 weeks before the install date for KCD, Tribeca or J&K, 3–4 weeks for Fabuwood stock or Mantra, and 5–8 weeks for Diamond or Decorá, with delivery 1–2 weeks before installation so there is time to inspect and replace anything damaged. Your designer confirms the timing for the line you choose.
