Four things are built forty-eight inches wide, and no two share a room

This is the last width the factory builds a cabinet at, and the list is four items long. What makes it interesting is that no two of them do related jobs — a straight run box, a corner box, something that goes over a fridge and something that goes in a bathroom. Four inches short of a metre, four products, four different rooms. Everything else at this number is a hood or a piece of trim.

Note the ranking. The corner box costs $48.75 LESS than the straight one, which is the reverse of what a more complicated cabinet usually does. A blind corner has one door and one finished side; half of it is dead space you reach past. You are paying for the face, and it only has half of one.
Four feet is a long way for a shelf
GN B48 is the widest box the collection makes, and width has a cost that does not appear on the price list. A ¾-inch adjustable shelf spanning 48 inches will deflect under a load of tinned goods in a way the same shelf at 24 inches never will, and the doors are a pair of very wide leaves hanging off Blum hinges on a tall opening.
Two practical answers. Load the shelf with light, bulky things — platters, trays, appliances you lift out — and put the heavy stock in a drawer bank at a narrower width. Or buy a spare shelf at $113.75 and run two half-depth shelves at different heights so neither carries a full span of weight. The loose parts list carries the shelf in the matching finish.
The two that are not kitchen run at all
GN W481224LU at $747.50 is the wide lift-up: 12 inches high, 24 inches deep, a door that swings up on a stay. It spans a refrigerator recess or a wide appliance alcove and closes the gap to the ceiling in one piece rather than three. It needs clearance above it, so check the ceiling before specifying.
GN VSD48 at $975.00 is the bathroom half of the width — a single box combining a sink bay with a drawer bank, 21 inches deep and 34 inches tall. Six side panels finish it, $289.25 flat and $455.00 shaker, and a premium valance is $230.75.
And two hoods, at very different money
GNK RHA483021 at $2,596.75 is the plain wall-mount at this width. GNK RHCA48 at $4,062.50 is the curved glass version, offered in standard, timber and walnut at the same price. The $1,465.75 between them is almost twice what the widest base cabinet costs — worth knowing before a 48-inch cooking opening goes on the drawing.
If the run above the range is going to be closed instead, there is no 48-inch wall cupboard to do it with. The widest closed upper in the collection is 39 inches, so a 48-inch span has to be covered by two boxes or by the hood itself.
