Heat, cords and residue: living with the Galaxy Cobblestone appliance storage rack
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
Buying the Galaxy Cobblestone appliance storage rack is simple: GC VASR-30, $240.50, fastens inside a door of a 30″ vanity base and holds a dryer and an iron in two stainless bins. Living with it is where the questions are. Hot tools, cords and hair product all go into one small space behind a stained wood door, and each has a habit that keeps the rack, and the finish around it, in good shape.
A cabinet door organizer for hair tools, briefly
Per the manufacturer, the frame is UV-coated maple with two 1.25-quart stainless bins and a lower shelf with a non-skid liner. It mounts to either door of a 30″ vanity base, such as the sink base GC VSB30-34 at $461.50 or the full-height door base GC VB30FD at the same price. There is no outlet on it; tools plug into the counter receptacle as before.
Before ordering, measure with the door shut from the inside face of the door to the front of the bowl or trap, because the rack projects into the cabinet. And pick the door that swings clear of the toilet or wall.
Can you put a hot curling iron in a cabinet? Let it cool first
We cannot find a heat rating for the bins, and the rack sits against a stained wood door with its own topcoat. So treat it as storage, not a dock. A straightener or curling iron stays hot for a while after it is switched off; leave it on a heat mat on the counter until the barrel is cool to the touch, then put it away.
On a dark finish there is an extra reason. A hot barrel resting against the inside of a door can mark the topcoat, and a pale mark on a dark gray-brown surface is obvious in a way it would not be on white.
Hair dryer cord storage that does not fight the door
Cords cause more trouble than heat. A cord wound tight around a dryer handle strains where it enters the tool; a loose tangle catches in the hinge side as the door closes. The middle ground works best: coil the cord loosely in a hand-sized loop, secure it with a soft tie, and drop it in the bin beside the tool.
Check the closing edge the first few days. If a plug or cord loop is riding up against the face frame as the door shuts, the Blumotion hinge will close on it gently, but it will close on it. Shorter loops fix that.
Hairspray residue on cabinets, and why it collects here

Tools go into the rack with product still on them, so the bins and the inside of the door slowly gather a sticky film. Wipe the stainless bins with warm soapy water once a month and dry them. On the outside of the door, a spray film shows as a dull patch when light catches a dark stained finish from the side. The fix is the same mild soap and water, wiped with the grain and dried at once.
The rack also adds weight to one door. Every few months, check that the hinge screws are tight and the door still lines up with its neighbour; a sagging door on a dark run shows as an uneven gap line.
When a different part is the better buy
If the vanity is still on paper, a sink and drawer combo at $757.25 for 30″ gives you a drawer for tools and cords together. If you want to plug tools in inside the cabinet, the 12″ grooming tower has outlets, costs $1,556.75, and needs a circuit brought in at rough-in. If the vanity is already built with doors, the rack is the cheapest fix. It ships pre-assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks; the other interiors are on the vanity accessories page.
Common questions
- Can I put a hot curling iron or straightener in the rack?
- Let it cool first. The bins have no published heat rating and sit against a stained wood door, so leave tools on a heat mat until the barrel is cool, then store them.
- Does the appliance storage rack have an outlet?
- No. It is storage only. The part in this range with outlets inside is the 12″ grooming organizer, which needs a circuit planned at rough-in.
- What size vanity does the rack fit?
- A 30″ vanity base with doors, such as GC VSB30-34 or GC VB30FD. Check the closed-door clearance to the bowl or trap before ordering.
- How do I clean hairspray off the rack and the door?
- Warm water with a little mild soap for the stainless bins; on the stained door, a barely damp cloth wiped with the grain and dried immediately.
- How should I store the hair dryer cord?
- Coil it loosely, secure it with a soft tie, and drop it in the bin beside the tool. Tight wrapping strains the cord; loose tangles catch as the door closes.
- Will the rack make the door sag?
- Not if the hinge screws are kept tight. Check them every few months, since a loaded door works its hinges harder and an uneven gap shows on a dark run.
