Left door or right: placing the Galaxy Linen appliance storage rack in a 30-inch vanity

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

This is the cheapest part on the vanity accessories page and the only one you can add after the bathroom is finished, which makes it the accessory we most often sell to people who have lived with a room for a month. The Galaxy Linen appliance storage rack, GL VASR-30 at $240.50, is a hair dryer holder that mounts inside one door of a 30″ vanity base and carries a dryer and an iron out of the cabinet as the door opens. Because it lives on a door, the first decision is which door.

Which vanity door takes a hair tool rack

Double vanity with doors and drawers in a bathroom
On a two-door cabinet, the rack goes on the door that opens away from whatever is closest.

A 30″ sink base has two doors and the rack fits either. The rule: hang it on the door that opens away from the nearest obstruction, because a door carrying a rack needs more room to open than a bare door does.

Which door takes the rack
What is beside the vanityHang it onWhy
Toilet to the rightThe left doorThe right door already opens short against the tank; a rack on it would open shorter.
Wall or tub to the leftThe right doorThe left door swings into the wall return; the rack needs the full 90° and a hand behind it.
Open floor both sides (double vanity)The door nearest the mirror you useTools go where the person stands, and cords reach the counter receptacle without crossing the other bowl.
Drawer-front or combo cabinetNowhereNo door, nothing to mount to. A sink-and-drawer combo already has a drawer for tools.

Take the second measurement before you buy: with the door closed, the clear depth from the inside of the door to the front of the bowl or the trap. The rack projects into the cabinet when shut, and a 21″-deep bath box gives it less room than a kitchen sink base would. If a pull-out already lives on the cabinet floor, its back edge has to clear the rack too.

A door-mounted hair dryer holder: what is on the door

The frame is UV-coated maple, and it carries a pair of stainless bins — 1.25 quarts each, per the manufacturer — over a lower shelf that has a non-skid liner. Nothing motorised, nothing wired. It is a shelf turned sideways and given a place to hang. A dryer barrel and a curling iron each stand in a bin; we have no published inside dimensions, so measure a wide flat iron against the quart figure before assuming it fits.

One detail worth knowing in this finish: the inside of every Galaxy box is natural wood veneer, not paint, so the rack sits against pale wood rather than beige when the door is open. Nothing is wrong with that — it is how the line is built — but this is the one accessory that is on show every time the door swings, so look at a set cabinet before you picture a beige interior.

It stores hot tools, it does not power them

There is no receptacle on this rack. The tools plug into the counter outlet as they always did; the rack is where they go afterwards. If a plug inside the cabinet is the goal, that is the 12″ grooming tower at $1,556.75, and it needs a GFCI-protected circuit brought into the cabinet at rough-in.

No spec we can find rates these bins for heat, so treat them as wipeable stainless rather than a dock: let a straightener cool on the counter first, then coil the cord loosely instead of winding it tight around the barrel.

What else $240.50 buys

If the vanity is still on paper, a deep drawer with a divider beats this rack: it takes the tools, cords and brushes together and comes fully out. That is a choice on the vanities page, where the sink-and-drawer combos start at $757.25 for the 30″ size, not a choice here.

If the vanity is built, has doors, and the counter is losing the war with a dryer, this is the part. The 24″ pull-out sorts small things better and handles tools worse; an over-door hook costs a fraction and looks like it. Ships pre-assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks, same limited lifetime warranty as the cabinets.

Common questions

Which door does a hair tool rack mount on?
Either door of a 30″ vanity base. Hang it on the one that opens away from the nearest obstruction — toilet, wall return or tub — so the loaded door can swing the full 90°.
Does the appliance storage rack have an outlet for the hair dryer?
No. It is storage only. The unit in this range with a receptacle inside is the 12″ grooming organizer, which needs its circuit planned at rough-in.
Can I add a hair dryer holder to a vanity I already have?
If the vanity is 30″ wide with doors, almost certainly. Measure the closed-door clearance to the bowl or trap first, and check nothing on the cabinet floor meets the rack when the door shuts.
Does a curling iron fit in the bins?
The bins are 1.25 quarts each per the manufacturer, which suits a dryer barrel or a curling iron standing upright. There is no published inside dimension, so check a wide flat iron against that figure before ordering.
Can I put a hot iron straight into it?
Let it cool first. The bins are stainless with non-skid lining and no published heat rating, so treat them as wipeable storage rather than a dock.
Is $240.50 worth it over a hook?
In a bathroom guests see, yes — a hook looks like a hook. In a private bath where the counter is the problem it is the cheapest fix in the range, and a divided drawer only beats it if you are still designing the vanity.
