Twenty-seven inches, and the widths the catalog skips

Twenty-seven inches is the width big-box shelves pretend does not exist, which is a shame, because a great many bathroom walls measure between twenty-seven and twenty-nine inches. Ordering the box that actually fits, rather than a smaller one plus a strip of filler, is the whole argument for this size.
Against a 24 and a filler
A 27" sink base displays at $451.75 and a 24" one at $438.75. Thirteen dollars separates them. A 3" filler, cut and scribed on site, does not cost thirteen dollars once the labour is in — and it gives you three inches of dead wood instead of three inches of cabinet.
That comparison holds all the way up the bath range and it is the reason the 3" grid exists. Whenever the wall measurement sits between two cabinet sizes, price the larger cabinet before you assume filler is the cheaper route. It usually is not.
What each bath width actually offers
The bath range is not uniform. Some builds appear at every width and some at only two, so the width you can have is partly decided by the front you want. This is the map.

The price of the front at this width
Twenty-seven is where the drawer-over-door build gets expensive relative to its neighbours. The full-height door and the sink base both display at $451.75; putting a drawer across the top takes it to $552.50, a jump of $100.75. At 18" the same step costs $6.50.
The all-drawer version lands at $802.75. That is a serious number for a bath cabinet, and it is worth it in exactly one case: when this cabinet is the storage for the whole room and there is no second box beside it to carry drawers.
Measuring to the wrong number
Measuring the wall and ordering to that number. Cabinets need clearance to slide in and something to scribe against; a 27" box in a 27" opening is a fight, and if the walls are out of square it is an impossible one. Order to the opening minus an allowance, and finish with filler.
The second is assuming the sink-and-drawer combos are available in this size. They are not — those start at 30". If your plan calls for drawers to one side of the bowl within a single cabinet, 27" is three inches too narrow and you need to find the extra space.

- In this range, 3" steps from 12" to 36", then 42", 48" and 60". Not every build exists at every width: sink bases start at 21", the combos with a drawer bank start at 30", and there is no all-drawer bath cabinet at 30" or 36".
- Is a 27 inch vanity a standard size?
- It is a standard cabinet size and an unusual retail one. Stock vanities are sold at 24", 30" and 36", so a 27" wall usually gets a 24" vanity and a gap. Ordering the cabinet size that matches the wall is the better outcome.
- Should I use a filler or a bigger vanity cabinet?
- Bigger cabinet, where the difference is three or six inches — the price gap between adjacent widths is small and you get usable cabinet instead of dead wood. Keep an inch or so of filler at a side wall for scribing.
