A Galaxy Pistachio Green coffee niche built around the one appliance wall box
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
There is exactly one appliance box on the wall list in this finish, and the most useful way to think about it is not as a cabinet at all but as the centre of a small room within the room. A coffee station, a tea corner, a drinks bar: a few feet of wall where one routine happens, with its own machines, its own cups and its own light. The Galaxy Pistachio Green appliance box is the piece that hides the machine; what goes either side of it and above it decides whether the niche works. It is also, as it happens, the lowest-commitment way to bring this green into a kitchen that is otherwise white or wood — which is a second reason to plan it carefully.
One box, and two things to confirm before planning
GPG WAC3018: 30 inches wide, 18 inches high, $796.25 at displayed prices on the review date. It is on the wall cabinet list, it is the only box of its kind in the finish, and two things about it are not set out on the product page. Both matter for the niche, so settle them with us first.
The first is how the front opens. Appliance boxes are made with several kinds of front — a door that folds back, a flap that lifts, a tambour that rolls away — and each one changes how much room the machine has inside and how much clear air the box needs around it. The second is where it is meant to mount. Eighteen inches is exactly the standard gap between the worktop and the underside of the uppers, which is the classic position for an appliance cabinet standing on the counter beneath a run; but it is listed as a wall cabinet, and a wall cabinet hung in the run is the other reading. The layouts below assume it hangs in the run; if it turns out to stand on the counter, the flanking boxes stay the same and the box above it simply becomes an ordinary upper. One call to (609) 900-3358 settles both.
For comparison, the two appliance garages sold as accessories in this finish are built to stand on the counter: GPG WAG2418, a 24-inch standard garage, at $968.50, and GPG WDCAG2418, a diagonal corner garage, at $757.25. They are on the appliance garage page, and they are the right tool if the niche is in a corner.
Three ways to build the niche, priced
Take a 66-inch stretch of wall with uppers 30 inches tall, which is a comfortable width for a coffee or drinks station. The appliance box sits in the centre. Because it is 18 inches high and the run is 30, the space above it takes a short 30-inch box 12 inches high — GPG W3012 at $234.00 — so the top of the niche lines up with the rest of the uppers. Then the two 18-inch bays either side decide the character of the thing.
| Layout | Parts | Total | What it feels like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Closed | GPG W1830 ×2, GPG W3012, GPG WAC3018 | $1,576.25 | A calm, tidy wall; cups and pods behind doors |
| Open flanks, open shelf boxes | GPG WOS1830 ×2, GPG W3012, GPG WAC3018 | $1,829.75 | Mugs and glasses on show; the niche reads as a bar |
| One of each | GPG W1830, GPG WOS1830, GPG W3012, GPG WAC3018 | $1,703.00 | Display on one side, the unlovely things behind a door on the other |
The open-shelf boxes are the ones with a finished matching interior, so the inside of the bay is the same colour as the outside rather than bare wood. That is what makes an open flank look like part of the niche rather than a hole in it. For a bar, a slim wine rack can replace one flank: the 6-inch-wide, 30-inch-tall GPG WC0630 is $273.00, and it is a better use of a narrow leftover than a 6-inch filler.
Under the niche, a drawer base is the one base cabinet that earns its place in a coffee station — pods, filters, spoons and tea in shallow drawers at hand height. The drawer bases are on the base cabinets page. And if the counter in the niche is where you will land a full kettle or a hot jug, keep at least a foot and a half of it clear in front of the machine for good.
The niche as the contained dose of colour

Here is the case for this green in a niche, put plainly. A coffee or drinks station is a few feet wide, it is self-contained, and it is naturally a place you want to look different from the working kitchen. That makes it the easiest place in a house to use a colour you like but are not sure about for a whole room. Do the main kitchen in Frost, Linen or Dove — same box, same door, same price grid — and build the niche in the sage. It will read as a piece of furniture set into the kitchen, which is exactly what it is.
It works the other way round too. If the kitchen is already green, the niche is the place to change: Timber gives a warm wood tone that sits well beside a greyed sage, and the contrast marks the niche as its own zone. Either way, the rule is the same: the niche is either the one place that is different or the one place that is the same, never half of each.
Then treat it like a sample board, because it is small enough to. One metal for the pulls, repeated on the tap if there is one; brass is the warm, obvious partner for this colour, black the sharper one. One stone or tile for the back wall — a warm white, a cream glaze or a veined marble-look quartz all flatter a muted green. One wood, if there is wood, in the shelves or a tray. The fuller pairing guide is the green kitchen cabinets guide, and the matching guide covers counters, backsplash and floor together. Before buying any of it, get a door sample — $25.00 — and lay the tile and the pull against it in the light the niche actually gets.
Plan the niche around the routine, not the machine
The mistake with a coffee station is designing it around the appliance catalogue. Design it around what you do there, in order, and the cabinets follow.
- Morning coffee: machine, grinder, cups, beans, a milk jug. The cups go in the flank nearest your hand when you are standing at the machine; beans and filters in the drawer below; the machine behind the front. A compact espresso machine or a pod machine is the likely occupant — measure its depth with the lid up, because a wall box is shallow.
- Tea: kettle, a row of caddies, a teapot, mugs. Kettles vent steam straight up, so use it with the front open or on the counter in front of the box, not shut inside it.
- A drinks bar: glasses, bottles, a shaker, an ice bucket. Glasses on an open flank, bottles in a closed one or in a wine rack, and the appliance box for a small blender or a soda machine.
- A smoothie or breakfast station: blender, toaster, bowls, cereal. Taller and deeper machines than the others — check every one of them against the box before you commit, and be ready to put the tall blender on the counter.
In every case, the machines need power inside or right beside the box, which means an outlet decided at rough-in, before the wall is closed; and the niche benefits from its own light, since it is used at the start and end of the day. Under-cabinet puck sets are stocked by width — GPG LED W30 is $130.00 for a 30-inch box — on the cabinet lighting page.
From sketch to order
Confirm the front and the mounting of the appliance box with us. Measure the tallest and deepest machine going in. Choose the flanks. Put the outlet and the light on the electrician’s drawing. Then order the niche as one group so the box above the appliance, the flanks and the appliance box itself arrive together; they are all pre-assembled and ship in 7 days to 3 weeks.
If the niche is going in as a different Galaxy finish from the rest of the kitchen, note that clearly on the sketch — it is a two-finish order and the drawing should show where one stops and the other starts. A free 3D design will draw the niche in context, and a designer replies within one business day. Trade buyers get 20–40% through Captivating Pro. The appliance box itself is on the appliance wall page, and every other box in the finish is on the collection page.
Common questions
- How do I design a coffee station with cabinets?
- Plan it around the routine: machine in the centre, cups in the flank nearest your hand, beans and filters in a drawer below, an outlet inside or beside the machine, and its own light. A 66-inch niche with a 30-inch appliance box in the middle, a short box above it and two 18-inch flanks is a comfortable size.
- How much does a cabinet coffee niche cost in this finish?
- For the uppers of a 66-inch niche at 30 inches tall: $1,576.25 with closed flanks, $1,829.75 with open-shelf flanks, and $1,703.00 with one of each, at displayed prices. The base cabinet and counter below are extra.
- Is a green coffee bar a good idea in a white kitchen?
- It is one of the easiest ways to use a colour. The niche is small and self-contained, so it reads as a piece of furniture set into the room. Do the main kitchen in a light Galaxy finish and the niche in the sage, then keep the pulls, tile and wood to one choice each.
- Does the appliance wall cabinet hang on the wall or sit on the counter?
- It is listed as a wall cabinet, and at 18 inches high it also matches the standard counter-to-upper gap where appliance cabinets often stand. The mounting and the way the front opens are not set out on the product page, so confirm both with us before planning.
- Can I run a kettle or coffee machine inside the cabinet?
- Use steam-producing machines with the front open, or pulled forward onto the counter, rather than shut inside the box. And make sure the machine fits: it is a wall-depth box, so measure depth with the lid raised.
