Galaxy Indigo wall cabinets: the walls where navy uppers belong

Most kitchens with a navy island hang light uppers, and that is usually right. Indigo wall cabinets are for the exceptions: a coffee or drinks bar, the range wall, a glass-fronted hutch, or a whole room in navy with enough light to carry it. This page covers those four walls, prices a bar, looks carefully at what the glass line lists, explains the lighting that keeps a navy upper from turning violet at night, and finishes with hoods and a height ladder.
Four walls where navy uppers are the right call
An all-navy room in another maker’s inset cabinets, painted deeper than this finish. The lit glass uppers and the pale stone keep so much colour from closing in.
Navy at eye level brings the wall toward you. On a short wall, or one with a job to do, that is useful. On a long perimeter in a dim room it makes the kitchen feel smaller. So the question for these cabinets is which wall, not how many.
Where navy uppers work, and what each wall needs
The wall
Why navy works there
What it needs
A coffee or drinks bar
A short run that can be the room’s one bold wall
An open or glass box to break it up, and a light strip under it
The range wall
Frames the hood and makes the cooking zone the focal point
A hood that contrasts: wood, or plaster-white, or stainless
A glass-front hutch on a base
Reads as furniture rather than kitchen cabinets
Interior lighting so the glass does not show as a dark rectangle
The whole room
A cocooning, library-like kitchen
Good daylight, pale counters and backsplash, and a lot of light
Everywhere else, hang the uppers in the white you chose for the room. The collection overview has the partner table: Dove and Frost are the usual choices. If you are still deciding, draw both versions. The design team can return a navy-uppers version and a light-uppers version of the same plan.
A coffee or drinks bar, priced
A bar wall is the easiest place to try navy overhead, because it is short and people only stand at it for a few minutes. Here is a 60″ bar built from the grid, with one open box so the navy has somewhere to break.

GI DB30

Lower right, door base for bottles or a bin
GI B30

Upper left, open shelf with a matching navy interior
The open shelf is finished inside in the door colour, so the inside is navy too. That is the difference between the open-shelf and no-door boxes and a standard cabinet with its door left off, which would show pale veneer. For bottles, the wine racks come as 6″ columns (GI WC0630 at $273.00) or as square lattice boxes (GI WR1818 at $383.50). For a counter-height stack beside the bar, the wall cabinets with drawers run from GI WD1848 at $796.25 to GI WD1860 at $926.25.
Glass fronts, and what the glass line actually lists
Glass fronts are the best tool for navy uppers, because they turn a block of dark colour into a frame. The glass door page for this finish lists 25 items: wall glass-door pieces from 15″ to 36″ wide at 30″ to 42″ high, four diagonal-corner sizes and one 18″ × 60″ double-door piece. The listed prices are low for complete cabinets (GI GDW3030, a 30″ × 30″ piece, shows at $201.50 against $383.50 for the solid GI W3030). Read them as glass doors or glass-door upgrades rather than whole boxes, and confirm with your designer exactly what each line includes before you plan the budget.
One more oddity: the 39″ heights are listed well below the 36″ ones (GI GDW3039 at $126.75 against GI GDW3036 at $234.00). That looks like a catalog error rather than a bargain, so do not build a plan around it without a confirmed quote.
Behind glass, light matters more on navy than on white. An unlit glass upper in a navy frame reads as a dark rectangle, and a lit one reads as a display case. The Galaxy line lists a 48″ interior strip, GI LED CAB INT 48" STRIP at $221.00, for this purpose. The glass door guide covers clear, seeded and reeded glass.
Keeping a navy upper blue after dark
Under-cabinet light does two jobs on a navy wall: it lights the counter, and it lights the doors above by reflection. That second job is where a navy upper goes wrong. Under a very warm strip the violet in the paint comes forward and the run turns aubergine. Under a very cool one it goes grey and the counter looks cold.

The tunable strip is the part we would choose for navy, because you can adjust the colour in the room rather than guessing from a spec sheet. Hide it behind light rail (GI LRM, $149.50) so the strip is not visible from a seat at the island. The molding guide shows which rail profiles conceal a strip, and the whole range of parts is on the accessories page.
The range wall: a navy hood or a wood one
The hood page for this finish lists five wall-mount styles. Four of them also come in Timber, and two of those in walnut as well, all at the navy price. That makes the classic pairing with navy, a warm wood hood between navy uppers, an easy order. A 36″ slim hood (GI RHS36) is $2,944.50 in navy, Timber or walnut. The 36″ chimney style (GI RHE36) is $2,788.50 in the navy or Timber. The plainer GI RHA363021 is $2,418.00, and the curved-glass and designer styles run higher.
The blower is a separate line: GI RHBB 250 CFM at $419.25, 400 CFM at $903.50 and 600 CFM at $1,787.50, and a vented hood needs nothing more. The $263.25 RHBB DCT is a recirculating kit, only for a kitchen that cannot be ducted outside. Size it to the cooktop and the duct run, not to the hood, using the ventilation guide. A navy hood between navy uppers makes one strong block of colour, and a wood hood breaks it with warmth. With brass pulls, the wood usually wins.
Height and price on a 33-inch upper
The height ladder is the usual nine rungs. Here it is on the 33″ width, which fits between a 30″ range and a window more often than the round sizes.

For navy uppers, the height question comes down to light as much as storage. A 42″ navy run to the ceiling is a lot of dark colour and needs a bright room. A 30″ box with the wall painted white above it leaves a strip of light over the navy that keeps the wall from closing in. The sizing guide covers the ceiling arithmetic.
Ends, corners and the fridge box
A navy upper run ends against a wall, a window or a tall box, and each end shows. Wall end skins are $50.05 at every height from 30″ to 42″ (GI SK W30 to SK W42), which is cheap enough to fit on every exposed side. The wall end cabinets finish a run with an angled face (GI WAE1230 at $279.50) or an open end (GI OE1230 at $364.00), which is gentler than a flat navy side where people walk past.
At the corner, the diagonal corner wall (GI WDC2430 at $455.00) catches light on its angled face. Over the fridge, the refrigerator wall cabinets are 24″ deep to line up with the fridge front, from GI W301524 at $351.00 to GI W362424 at $578.50. Single-door uppers from 9″ to 21″ wide on the single-door wall page close out odd lengths, and the standard double-door walls fill the rest.
Common questions
Should upper cabinets be navy or white with a navy island?
Usually white or off-white, in Dove or Frost on the same door. Navy uppers work best on one chosen wall, such as a bar, the range wall or a glass hutch, or throughout a bright room that can carry that much colour.
What under-cabinet light color is best for navy cabinets?
Neutral white, roughly 3000K to 3500K, with a high colour-rendering index. Very warm strips bring out the violet in the paint, and very cool ones turn it grey. The Galaxy tunable-white strip ($286.00) lets you set it after install.
Are the Galaxy Indigo glass doors full cabinets?
The prices suggest glass doors or glass-door upgrades rather than whole boxes. GI GDW3030 shows at $201.50 against $383.50 for the solid GI W3030. Confirm with your designer what each glass line includes before budgeting.
Can I get a wood range hood with navy cabinets?
Yes. Four of the five hood styles in this collection also come in Timber, and two in walnut, at the same price as the navy version. A 36″ slim hood is $2,944.50 in any of the three, and the blower is ordered separately.
How much do Galaxy Indigo wall cabinets cost?
From $172.25 for a 12″ × 15″ single door (GI W1215) to $724.75 for a 39″ × 42″ double door (GI W3942). The common GI W3030 is $383.50, the same as the other painted Galaxy finishes.
