Galaxy Indigo base cabinets: where the navy starts and where it stops

A navy lower run is judged at its edges. The middle of a run of Indigo base cabinets looks right almost however it is planned. Where the colour stops is what shows: beside a white pantry, at the open end of an island, against the fridge, at the wall and along the floor. This page plans those edges first, with the part that finishes each one, then gives the full base grid, the island, the sink wall and the corner, and ends with how a painted navy run wears at knee and toe height.
Plan the edges of the navy before the boxes

A white run can end with a slightly raw side and nobody notices. A navy run cannot: any unpainted surface, any pale gap or any light-coloured panel shows against the colour. So before choosing widths, list every place the lower navy ends and decide what finishes it.
| Where the navy stops | What goes wrong | What to order |
|---|---|---|
| Beside a light tall pantry or fridge surround | The navy base side shows against a white box | A base end skin, GI SK BASE at $62.40, or a thicker GI BEP base end panel at $149.50 |
| Against a stainless fridge | A raw box side and a gap for the door swing | An end skin plus a 3″ base filler (GI BF3, $26.00) so the fridge door clears the pulls |
| The open end of an island or peninsula | The most visible side in the room | GI BEP panels on both ends; or an angled end, GI BRA24 at $588.25, or a GI BTR12 or BTL12 transition at $419.25 |
| At a wall that is not straight | A tapering gap along the last box | A filler scribed on site, and scribe molding (GI SM8-S, $39.00 per 8 ft) in navy |
| Along the floor | A pale or mismatched plinth under a navy run | Navy toe kick, GI TK8 at $55.90 per 8 ft, measured to the full run |
| Where navy lowers meet light lowers on an L | Two colours meeting at an inside corner | Make the switch at an appliance or a tall box instead; never at a corner cabinet |
Count the ends from the plan and put them on the same order as the cabinets. A panel ordered later is a separate delivery, and a navy panel in a different paint batch is where a slight colour difference would show. The skin panels and gables explainer covers when a thin skin is enough and when a thicker panel is worth the extra cost.

Two items do not fit a family. GI BSS3 is a base cabinet sold with its accessories already installed, listed at $2,021.50. Ask your designer what it contains before you plan around it, because the listing does not say. GI KD30 ($172.25) and GI FD18 ($559.00) are a knee drawer and a file drawer base for a desk section. The base cabinet guide explains what each family is for.
A navy island has four faces, and all of them show
The island is where most of this colour gets bought, and it is the one cabinet group seen from every side. The front is the working side, facing the sink or range. The back is either seating, under an overhang, or a second row of storage. The two ends are what you see first walking in, so they are the edges that matter most.
For the working side, drawers earn their price because the island is where you prep and unload. A 96″ run of GI DB36, GI B24 and GI DB36 comes to $2,531.75, with two deep drawer banks and a door base in the middle for trays or a bin. If nobody sits at the back, a second row of 12″-deep boxes turns the island into storage on both sides. Two GI B36FD-12D ($477.75 each) and a GI B24FD-12D ($396.50) add $1,352.00 and make a 36″-deep island. If people will sit there, leave the back open under an overhang and finish it with a panel. Your designer will size the panel to the island, since the length varies.
Ends: two GI BEP panels ($149.50 each) are the minimum. A GI BRA24 return angle ($588.25) softens a corner that people walk past all day. Plan the aisle widths before the island length, because a navy island that crowds the aisle will get knocked, and knocks show on this paint.
Sink base sizes, and a white apron against navy
Size the sink base to the sink and allow about 3″ over the sink’s outside width: a 30″ sink wants a 33″ base (GI SB33, $468.00) and a 33″ sink wants a 36″ base (GI SB36, $490.75). The 33″ and 36″ widths also come with one full-width false front, GI SB33SDF and GI SB36SDF, at the same prices. On a navy sink wall that single front gives one unbroken panel of colour under the window.
An apron-front sink needs a farm sink base: GI FS30, FS33 or FS36, $806.00 to $825.50, cut down at the front for the apron. A white fireclay apron set into navy becomes the focal point of the run, which is often the look people want. Order the sink first and send its spec drawing with the cabinet order. A diagonal sink base (GI DSB36, $617.50) handles a corner sink.
Beside the sink, a full-height door base (GI B18FD, $373.75) takes a trash pull-out. The dishwasher is the other edge in this zone: a stainless door between two navy boxes is a strong break, so match the base widths on either side to keep it centred.
Turning the corner of an L: four corner bases
Corner choices on this page are the same four as in any Galaxy finish, and the prices run from $614.25 to $1,095.25. What changes with navy is the filler. A blind corner base (GI BLB36/39 at $614.25 up to GI BLB48/51 at $767.00) needs a filler at the turn so the drawers on the adjoining run clear each other. That filler is a strip of navy at the most-seen point of an L, so order it in the finish rather than cutting it on site.
The lazy Susan (GI LSB33 $1,030.25, LSB36 $1,095.25) gives you the most usable storage and needs both walls clear. The easy reach (GI ERB33 $838.50, ERB36 $848.25) has an angled door that catches light from two directions, which helps a dark corner look less like a hole. The accessories guide covers the pull-outs that make a blind corner usable.
Knee and toe height: how a painted navy run wears
The lowest foot of a base run takes the most contact: shoes, vacuum heads, a dog’s bowl, a chair pushed back from the island. On a navy run that contact shows as pale scuffs on the toe kick and small chips on the bottom rail of the lowest drawer. It does not wear faster than white, but the marks are easier to see.
There are three habits worth adopting. Keep a navy touch-up on hand; ask your designer what is available for this finish when you order. Wipe the kick with a damp cloth rather than a dry one, because grit dragged across dark paint leaves streaks. Where a dog or a high-traffic door is near a navy run, the toe kick is the cheapest part to replace, at $55.90 per 8 ft, so it is worth keeping a spare length. Higher up, on the doors, fingerprints show less than they would on white, which is one reason people choose navy for the island that gets leaned on.
Before the base order goes in
- Mark every edge where the navy stops and list the finishing part for each.
- Choose the sink and send its drawing; it sizes the sink base or farm sink base.
- Decide the island back: 12″-deep boxes, or an overhang with a panel.
- Note the hinge side of every single-door base at an end or corner.
- Count the toe kick in 8 ft lengths for the whole run, island included.
- Check the pulls on the drawing from the room’s entrance.
Then send the plan to the design team, who return it drawn with every edge part on the box list. Construction and the colour discussion are on the Indigo collection page. For a door-only base in the same finish, the double-door bases start at 24″ wide.
Common questions
- How much do Galaxy Indigo base cabinets cost?
- At the displayed prices, door bases run $364.00 (GI B12) to $815.75 (GI B48), three-drawer bases $617.50 to $1,030.25, sink bases $386.75 to $572.00 and corner bases $614.25 to $1,095.25. The navy is priced the same as every painted Galaxy finish.
- Should navy go on the lower cabinets or the island?
- Either works, and both are common. Navy lowers under light uppers make a two-tone room. A navy island in an otherwise light kitchen is the lighter commitment. Whichever you choose, plan how each navy run ends at a tall cabinet, an appliance or an open end.
- What do I put on the end of a navy island?
- A base end panel in the same finish, GI BEP at $149.50, on each exposed end. For a softer corner, use a GI BRA24 return angle ($588.25). Order the panels with the cabinets so they come from the same paint run.
- What size sink base do I need for a 33 inch sink?
- A 36″ sink base: GI SB36 at $490.75, or GI SB36SDF with one full-width false front at the same price. The sink maker’s minimum cabinet width is the number to follow if it differs.
- Do navy base cabinets show scratches?
- Chips and scuffs show as a pale mark on dark paint, mostly on the toe kick and the lowest drawer rail. Fingerprints show less than on white. Keep touch-up on hand, and ask your designer what is available for this finish when you order.
- Are there 12 inch deep navy base cabinets?
- Yes. The full-height door bases come 12″ deep from 9″ to 36″ wide, GI B09FD-12D at $266.50 to GI B36FD-12D at $477.75. They are mostly used on the back of an island or peninsula.
