The most-opened door in a navy bathroom: wear, chips and pulls on the Galaxy Indigo garbage pull-out

The Galaxy Indigo garbage pull-out, GI VGO12FD BLUM at $1,556.75, is where the hair dryer and the straightener live, which makes its door the one opened most in the whole bathroom: twice every morning, often with damp hands, and pulled hard enough to bring a loaded unit out with it. That is worth thinking about on navy specifically. A saturated paint hides fingerprints far better than white does, but it shows a chip, a scuff or a line of dust as a pale mark against the dark. Here is where that happens, and how to plan for it.
A grooming tower filed under a garbage label
The code reads V for vanity, GO for grooming organizer, 12 for the width, FD for a full-height door and BLUM for the Tandem plus Blumotion runners beneath it. Distributor copy for the same code describes small stainless canisters, lined shelves and a receptacle block with two tamper-resistant 120V outlets. None of that is a household bin. The wording varies between listings, so have your designer confirm the outlet detail in writing on the order.
It fits one cabinet, the 12″ full-height-door vanity base, GI VB12FD at $328.25. And because it has power inside, the circuit has to reach the inside of that box, GFCI-protected under your local code, while the wall is still open.
Where a navy cabinet door shows use, and where it hides it
We asked ourselves the question buyers ask us: will the tower door look worn in a year? On a flat, opaque navy the answer depends on which part of the door you mean.
| Where | What happens on navy | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| The face around the pull | Fingerprints barely register at arm’s length, much better than on white. Under a low, raking light, skin oil can leave a faintly different sheen. | A soft cloth, barely damp, once a week. Nothing abrasive. |
| The door’s leading edge | The edge that meets a ring or a hairbrush handle. A knock through the paint shows as a pale fleck. | Store tools barrel-down inside, and keep the touch-up plan below ready. |
| Top edges and rails | Face powder, dry shampoo and plain dust settle on horizontal edges and show pale. | A dry microfibre over the top rails when you wipe the counter. |
| The bottom rail | Shoes, slippers and a vacuum head meet it. Scuffs read as light streaks. | Most lift with a damp cloth. Anything that does not is a touch-up. |
None of this is a flaw in the finish. It is simply what a dark, even colour does: it hides smears and shows specks, the opposite of white. The same door in Frost would show every thumbprint and swallow the dust.
Choosing a pull for a door that carries the whole unit

On this unit the door is also the handle for everything behind it, so the pull takes more load than any other in the room. That argues for a long bar pull mounted vertically on the stile rather than a knob. A bar spreads the grip along its length, so fingers close around metal instead of pressing on painted wood, and a vertical bar suits the tall, narrow door. Pulls are a separate hardware line item, not something this page sells.
Metal is a colour decision on navy, not just a style one. Brass and gold are the finish’s classic partners and keep it reading as blue. Unlacquered brass will darken and spot where hands land, which some people want and others do not, so ask the hardware supplier which you are buying. Polished nickel and chrome are fine, but they cool the navy toward slate. Whatever you pick for the tower, use it across the vanity, because this is the pull everyone notices first.
A touch-up plan for chips on navy paint
Plan this before anything chips. Ask your designer whether a matched Indigo touch-up product is available with the order, and keep it with the house documents. We will not promise one exists until your designer has confirmed it. A general-purpose navy from a paint store will not match a factory colour this muted and grayed, and a wrong navy dabbed on a pale fleck is more visible than the fleck.
For cleaning, a soft cloth and mild soap, dried straight away. Skip melamine sponges and abrasive creams: they cut the sheen, and a dull patch on a door this dark is visible from across the room. The cabinet care guide covers what is safe on painted doors in more detail.
Common questions
- Is the Galaxy Indigo garbage pull-out a trash can?
- No. Its code, VGO, is Fabuwood’s grooming organizer: small stainless canisters, lined shelves and, per distributor copy, a receptacle with two outlets. For a real waste bin under a bathroom sink, the U-shaped organizer for a 30″ sink base includes one.
- Does navy cabinet paint show fingerprints?
- Far less than white. On a flat, opaque navy like Indigo, fingerprints barely register at normal distance. What shows instead is anything pale: dust, powder, scuffs and chips.
- What happens when a navy cabinet chips?
- The chip shows as a pale fleck against the dark paint. Ask your designer whether a matched Indigo touch-up product can come with the order; a store-mixed navy rarely matches a muted factory colour.
- What pulls work best on a navy vanity tower?
- A long bar pull mounted vertically, so your grip lands on metal rather than paint. Brass or gold keeps the navy reading blue; nickel and chrome cool it toward slate.
- What cabinet does the 12-inch grooming pull-out need?
- The 12″ full-height-door vanity base, GI VB12FD, at $328.25. The pull-out occupies the whole box, so nothing else goes inside it.
- Does it need an electrician?
- Yes. The outlets need a circuit brought inside the cabinet body, GFCI-protected under local rules, and it has to be planned at rough-in while the wall is open.
