Decide it in week one: a project calendar for the Galaxy Horizon garbage pull-out

The Galaxy Horizon garbage pull-out, GH VGO12FD BLUM at $1,556.75, is a whole 12-inch vanity cabinet whose full-height door rides out on Blum runners with the interior attached. It is also the one vanity part that can reach back into the wall behind it, because the same Fabuwood code is sold elsewhere as a grooming organizer with a power outlet inside. That makes it a week-one decision rather than a finishing touch. This page walks through a bathroom remodel in order and marks the point at which each question about it has to be answered.
The calendar at a glance
Every bathroom runs to its own timetable, and ours is not a contractor's schedule. What follows is the sequence, not the dates: the order in which decisions about a tall pull-out fall due, so none of them lands on the day the plasterer has already been.
| Stage | What gets settled | Who needs to know |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Which side of the basin, what sits beside it, interior confirmed in writing | You and the designer |
| Walls open | Whether a receptacle is needed inside the cabinet, and where | Electrician |
| Order placed | Every stained part on one order; lead time starts | Us |
| Delivery | Runners, door and carcass checked before the installer arrives | You or the site lead |
| Install | Cabinet set and fixed before the top is templated | Installer, then fabricator |
| Two weeks in | Door alignment rechecked once the room has settled | Installer or you |
Design: the side of the basin and the interior in writing
A tall pull-out earns its price only within arm's reach of where someone stands at the basin. Put it at the far end of a run, beside the toilet or behind the door swing, and a 12-inch door cupboard does the same job for a fraction of the money. So the first decision is which side of the sink it lives on, and that depends on handedness, the door into the room and where the towel bar goes.
The second is what is inside it. The listing on this page calls it a garbage pull-out. Other stockists describe the same Fabuwood code as a grooming organizer, with bins, small shelves and a built-in receptacle for a hair dryer or straightener. One needs a bin liner. The other needs a circuit. We confirm which interior your order ships with, in writing, at the design stage, and we would rather do that than have it discovered at unboxing.
Draw it before deciding. The free 3D design service will place the pull-out on both sides of the basin with codes and a quote; a designer replies within one business day and the full design follows in 24 to 48 hours.
Walls open: the one week the electrician is cheap

If the confirmed interior carries power, the receptacle has to be fed from inside the wall, and there is one stretch of a remodel when that is easy: after demolition and before the board goes back up. Miss that window and the electrician is cutting into new drywall or new tile to run a cable, which is slower, messier and more expensive than the same job a fortnight earlier.
We are not going to spell out wiring rules here. Bathroom circuits are tightly regulated and the rules vary by jurisdiction; that is the electrician's call. What you bring to that conversation is the cabinet's position on the drawing and the confirmed interior. If the interior on your order has no receptacle, skip this step entirely and the pull-out is purely a joinery item.
Order day: one order for every stained part
Galaxy ships pre-assembled in about 2 weeks, so the order can go in well after the design is fixed without holding anything up. What matters more on this finish is keeping it whole. Horizon is a stain, and Fabuwood notes that colour variation between stained parts is normal. A tall, narrow door is a long uninterrupted run of vertical grain, and it will sit a few inches from the doors of the sink base beside it. Parts ordered together are the best chance of a close set.
The same logic says to order the partner for the other side at the same time, if the plan has one. This finish lists a 12-inch full-height vanity base, GH VB12FD at $328.25, alongside the standard GH VB12-34 at $364.00. On a 48-inch wall, a pull-out on one side of a 24-inch sink base (GH VSB24-34, $438.75) and the full-height base on the other gives a symmetrical front of tall, narrow doors either side of the basin for $2,323.75 in cabinets. Confirm on the drawing that the two tall doors line up; we check it before the order goes in.
Delivery: what to check before the installer comes
- Open the box where the cabinet will be installed, not on a driveway. A stained door judged in outdoor light and then again in a bathroom will look like two different colours.
- Pull the door out to full extension and push it closed three or four times. It should run smoothly and close itself gently at the end of its travel.
- Look along the door edge and the carcass edges for handling marks. Photograph anything, with the packing slip in shot, and send it to us the same day.
- Stand the pull-out next to the sink base and look at the two in the room's own light. A tonal difference between boards is normal on a stain; a clearly different colour is a call to us.
- Check the interior against the written confirmation from the design stage.
Install: set it before the top is templated
A tall pull-out is set, levelled and fixed to its neighbour like any other box in the run, and it should be in place before the countertop fabricator comes to template. The top rests across it, and a fabricator templating over a gap is guessing at where the finished edge will fall.
Two small installer notes. Keep the door on its runners during setting rather than removing it, unless the instructions in the box say otherwise; runners are adjusted with the door in place. And leave the door clear of the neighbouring door by the same reveal the rest of the run uses, so the narrow face reads as part of the vanity rather than as an attachment.
Two weeks in: the first adjustment
New bathrooms move a little. Floors settle, a top is sealed, a room dries out after tiling. It is normal for a tall door on runners to drift slightly out of line in the first weeks, and the fix is an adjustment, not a return. Fabuwood does not publish the adjustment steps for this unit, so ask your installer to check it on a return visit or send us a photo and we will point you to the right screws.
After that, the care is the same as for any stained door: blot water rather than wiping it, use a mild cleaner, and never spray cleaner straight onto the wood. A pull-out beside the basin gets wet hands every day, and those rules are what keep its lower rail from dulling first. Our care guide has the full routine.
If the bathroom is already finished
The calendar above assumes a remodel. If the bathroom is already done and the vanity is in, adding a tall pull-out is a bigger job than it looks, and it is worth knowing why before ordering one. The pull-out is a whole cabinet, not an insert, so it needs its own 12 inches of wall beside the existing vanity, and the existing top almost certainly stops at the old cabinet's edge. A new top, or at least a new section of top, is part of the job. So is the floor beneath, which may never have been tiled where the new cabinet will stand.
That does not rule it out. It changes the comparison. In a finished bathroom, the real price of the pull-out is the cabinet plus a top plus whatever tile or flooring the new footprint needs, and against that total a freestanding bin or a door-mounted caddy inside the existing sink base looks very different. If you are weighing it up, send us a photo of the wall and the vanity and we will tell you honestly which route makes sense.
Common questions
- When should I decide on a vanity pull-out in a bathroom remodel?
- At the design stage, before the walls are closed. If the interior you are ordering includes a receptacle, the electrician needs its position while the wall is open. If it does not, it is a straightforward cabinet and can be ordered any time before install.
- Is the VGO12FD a trash pull-out or a grooming organizer?
- This page lists it as a garbage pull-out; other stockists describe the same Fabuwood code as a grooming organizer with a receptacle. We confirm the interior in writing against your order at the design stage.
- Is there a matching 12-inch tall cabinet for the other side of the sink?
- Yes. This finish lists GH VB12FD, a 12-inch full-height vanity base, at $328.25. With the pull-out on one side and a 24-inch sink base in the middle, the three cabinets come to $2,323.75 at review.
- How long does a Galaxy vanity take to arrive?
- Galaxy ships pre-assembled in about 2 weeks. The lead time starts when the order is placed, so the order can follow a settled design without delaying the job.
- My pull-out door has drifted out of line. Is it faulty?
- Usually not. Tall doors on runners often need one adjustment after a new room settles. Send us a photo or ask your installer to check it on a return visit.
- How do I clean a stained pull-out door beside the sink?
- Blot water rather than wiping it, use a mild cleaner on a cloth, and never spray cleaner directly onto the wood. Those are Fabuwood's own care rules for its finishes.
