Not a 30-inch vanity? Building a run around the Galaxy Horizon appliance storage rack

Most people find the appliance rack after they have already sized their vanity, and then discover the catch in its name. The Galaxy Horizon appliance storage rack, GH VASR-30 at $240.50, is made for a 30-inch vanity cabinet. If your wall takes a 30-inch vanity, that is the end of the story. If it takes 24, 36, 42, 48 or 60 inches, the question becomes whether a 30-inch box can be built into the run, what that costs against a one-piece cabinet, and when it is better to store the hair dryer some other way. This page works through each width.
The rack and the one width it is sized for
The rack holds hot tools, a hair dryer, a straightener, a curling wand, inside a vanity cabinet rather than on the counter or in a drawer. The listing names it "For 30"W", and the page address calls it a slide-out rack, so the width is the one fixed fact. Fabuwood does not publish its clear dimensions or a weight rating on this listing, and we will not guess them.
In this finish, the 30-inch cabinet it goes with is the vanity sink base, GH VSB30-34 at $461.50, which makes $702.00 for the pair. The 30-inch sink-and-drawer combos, GH VSD30DL and VSD30DR at $757.25, are also 30 inches wide, but their door section is narrower because drawers take one side, so whether the rack fits one is a question to confirm with us rather than assume.
Every common vanity width, and whether a 30-inch box fits in
Vanities in this line are 21 inches deep and step in 3-inch widths, so a wider run can be built from more than one box. Below are the builds that include a 30-inch sink base and the rack, beside the simplest one-piece cabinet for the same wall. Prices are cabinets only, before a top, basin or faucet.
| Wall | Build with the rack | Total | One-piece alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30″ | VSB30-34 + VASR-30 | $702.00 | VSB30-34 alone, $461.50 |
| 42″ | VSB30-34 + VASR-30 + VDB12-34 | $1,303.25 | VSB42-34, $542.75, or VSD42, $874.25 |
| 48″ | VSB30-34 + VASR-30 + VDB18-34 | $1,374.75 | VSD48, $975.00 |
| 60″ single bowl | VDB15-34 + VSB30-34 + VASR-30 + VDB15-34 | $1,956.50 | VSD60SINGLE, $1,196.00 |
| 60″ double bowl | 2 × VSB30-34 + one VASR-30 | $1,163.50 | VSD60DOUBLE, $1,046.50 |
| 60″ double, rack each side | 2 × VSB30-34 + 2 × VASR-30 | $1,404.00 | VSD60DOUBLE, $1,046.50 |
Two widths stand out. On a 60-inch double, two 30-inch sink bases and one rack cost only $117.00 more than the one-piece double combo, and each person gets a full-width cupboard under their own basin. On a 48-inch wall the gap is $399.75, because the 18-inch drawer base carries most of the difference. The single-bowl 60-inch build is the dear one: it buys two separate drawer stacks either side of a central sink, which is a very different vanity from the combo.
The awkward widths: 24, 27, 33 and 36 inches
On a 24- or 27-inch wall a 30-inch box does not fit, and the rack is not listed for those sizes. The honest advice is to store hot tools elsewhere: a door-mounted hook of your own inside the sink base, or a drawer in a neighbouring cabinet if the room has space for one.
At 33 and 36 inches it is closer, and that is where people are tempted to force it. A 30-inch sink base on a 36-inch wall leaves 6 inches, which is not a vanity width in this line. The alternatives are a single 36-inch sink base (GH VSB36-34, $490.75) or a 33-inch one (GH VSB33-34, $484.25). Whether the 30-inch rack can be mounted inside either wider box is not something the listing tells us, and we would rather ask Fabuwood for your specific cabinet than send a part that almost fits. Tell us the wall and we will find out.
If the 36-inch wall is yours, it is also worth pricing a 24-inch sink base with a 12-inch piece beside it. The narrow cabinets are covered on the garbage pull-out page and the vanities page, and a 12-inch drawer stack is a natural home for a straightener and a brush.
What a two-box vanity looks like in a stain

Building a vanity from several boxes has one visual consequence: where two cabinets meet, two face-frame stiles stand side by side, and there is a fine vertical line between them. Under a one-piece combo there is no such line. In a paint the seam is almost invisible. Horizon is a stain, and two boxes are two sets of boards, so the seam is also where a slight difference in tone between neighbouring stiles can show.
Fabuwood treats that variation as normal for stained finishes, and in most rooms it reads as the wood rather than as a flaw. Two things keep it quiet. Order every box in one order, so the parts are made together. And when the vanity is set, clamp and screw the face frames tight and flush before the top goes on, so the seam is a hairline and not a step. A continuous top and a single backsplash across the run do the rest.
The one-piece combos avoid the question, which is part of what their price buys. Seen that way, the extra cost of a multi-box build is paying for flexibility: a rack in a full-width cupboard, drawers where you want them, and cupboards sized to the people using them.
Deciding whether the rack is worth building around
- Yes, if the vanity is 30 or 60 inches: the rack slots in at little or no penalty, and the 60-inch double is the best value build on this page.
- Probably, at 42 or 48 inches, if you would have chosen a separate drawer stack anyway: the rack then adds only its own $240.50.
- Probably not, if the one-piece combo already gives you everything else you want. A rack is a small convenience; a vanity rebuilt around it is a large one.
- No, at 24 or 27 inches. Store tools in a drawer or on a hook of your own.
- Ask us, at 33 or 36 inches, before assuming anything fits.
Every one of these runs can be drawn before any money is spent. The free 3D design will lay out the vanity both ways with codes and a quote, and a designer answers within one business day.
Two people, two widths
The table assumes symmetry, but a shared vanity does not have to be symmetrical. If one person owns the hair dryer, the straightener and the curling wand and the other owns a razor, there is a good case for giving the first person the 30-inch sink base with the rack and the second a narrower sink base with a drawer stack.
On a 60-inch wall the natural split is still 30 and 30, one rack. On a 54-inch wall, the 30-inch base with the rack sits beside a 24-inch sink base (GH VSB24-34, $438.75); on a 51-inch wall, beside a 21-inch one (GH VSB21-34, $422.50); on a 66-inch wall, beside a 36-inch one. Because vanity widths step in 3 inches, most walls have an unequal split that works. The arithmetic is quick to get wrong on paper and easy to get right on a drawing, so this is exactly the kind of question the design service is for: tell the designer who uses which side and what they keep there, and let the layout follow.
Living with it once it is in
A few habits make a rack last. Let hot tools cool on the counter before they go back in the cabinet, since a vanity interior is enclosed wood. Wind cords loosely rather than tightly round the tool, so the rack is not straining against a spring of cable. And wipe the rack when you clean the bathroom, because hairspray and product settle on anything inside a vanity.
The door the rack is on still gets handled more than most. For a stained door, Fabuwood's care rules apply: blot water, avoid harsh cleaners, and never spray cleaner directly onto the wood. The care guide goes through it.
Common questions
- What size vanity does the appliance storage rack fit?
- It is listed for a 30-inch vanity cabinet. In this finish that is the 30-inch sink base, GH VSB30-34 at $461.50; with the rack at $240.50 the pair is $702.00 at review.
- Can I put a hair dryer rack in a 36-inch vanity?
- The rack is not listed for a 36-inch box, and its fit in a wider cabinet is not published. Tell us your cabinet and we will confirm before ordering; the alternative is a 24-inch sink base with a 12-inch cabinet beside it.
- Is it cheaper to build a 60-inch double vanity from two 30-inch cabinets?
- Not cheaper, but close. Two 30-inch sink bases and one rack are $1,163.50, against $1,046.50 for the one-piece 60-inch double combo, and each basin gets a full-width cupboard.
- Will two vanity cabinets side by side show a seam?
- There is a fine line where two face frames meet. On a stain, a slight tone difference between neighbouring stiles can show there; ordering the boxes together and clamping the frames flush keeps it to a hairline.
- Does the vanity appliance rack fit a sink-and-drawer combo?
- The 30-inch combos have a narrower door section because drawers take one side, so ask us to confirm before ordering.
- How do I store hot tools in a small 24-inch vanity?
- The rack is not made for 24-inch cabinets. A hook inside the door of your own choosing, or a drawer in a neighbouring cabinet, is the practical answer.
