Two ovens stacked: weight, blocking, and how high the top one can go

A double-oven tower is the least cabinet-like cabinet in the catalogue. You are buying a structure to hold up two appliances at a fixed height, and almost every question that matters about it is a question about physics rather than storage: how much the thing weighs, what is behind the wall holding it, and whether the person who cooks here can safely get a loaded pan out of the upper oven. That last one is the one nobody asks until the tower is standing, so it goes first.
How high the upper oven can be before it stops being usable

There is a rule that predates every cabinet catalogue: you can lift a heavy thing down from above your elbow, but you cannot lower it under control. Bring a full roasting pan out of an oven whose floor sits above your bent elbow and you are holding twenty-five pounds at arm’s length, above a hot door, with nowhere to rest it. It is the single most common ergonomic complaint about a stacked pair, and it is entirely avoidable at the planning stage.
Find your own number first. Stand straight, bend one arm to ninety degrees and measure from the floor to the underside of that forearm — for most adults it lands somewhere between forty-two and forty-eight inches. Anything routinely lifted out at load wants to come out at or below that line. Anything lighter can live above it.

Which gives the practical planning instruction: if this household roasts, the lower oven is the main oven and the upper one is the second oven, and the tower has to be set so the lower oven is the comfortable one. If you are tall, the pair suits you better than it suits most people — and if the cook who uses it most is not tall, say so at the design stage, because the fix is a plan change and not a product.
Two more things live in this decision. A door that opens downwards at chest height needs somewhere within a step to put what came out of it, which means counter beside the tower rather than across the room. And the upper oven of a stacked pair puts your face level with the opening when you check on something, which is a good argument for the model with the better door seal and no argument at all about cabinetry.
A taller cabinet does not move the ovens
This is the misconception worth correcting before the four heights are read as a menu. The difference between an eighty-four-inch tower and a ninety-six-inch one is twelve inches of cabinet above the appliance openings, not a repositioning of the openings themselves. The cutouts are dimensioned from the floor because that is what the appliance requires and what the person using it requires. Ordering the tall box will not raise your ovens and ordering the short box will not lower them.
Confirm the cutout position on the published spec for the exact SKU you are buying rather than taking that on trust — it is one line on the sheet and it settles the question. But do not choose a cabinet height hoping to solve an ergonomic problem with it, because that is not the lever.

A hundred and forty-nine dollars and fifty cents separates the shortest from the tallest. That is not a budget decision either — it is a ceiling decision, and it should be matched to whatever the pantry run beside it is doing, because a tower that stops short of its neighbours reads as a mistake even when it is deliberate.
What the floor, the studs and the box are carrying
The published shipping weight of a wall oven is on its spec sheet and it is the number to plan around. Two of them, plus a full-depth ninety-six-inch cabinet, plus whatever is in the storage, is a concentrated load in a thirty-three-inch footprint — and unlike a base run, it is not spread along a wall or supported by a countertop.
- Solid blocking in the wall, put in before the drywall goes on, at the heights the cabinet will be screwed at. Retro-fitting blocking behind a standing tower means opening the wall.
- Fixings into studs, not into drywall anchors. A tall cabinet carrying two appliances is the one box in the kitchen where this is not a formality.
- A level, solid floor under the tower. The load goes down as well as back, and a tower shimmed out of level puts the appliance out of level with it — which you will see the first time you bake something thin.
- Enough hands on delivery day. The cabinet arrives pre-assembled and rigid, which is the right way to buy it, but a full-depth 96″ box is long and awkward before anything is in it. Walk the route — doorway, stair turn, garage opening — before the truck is outside.
- The appliances installed after the cabinet is fixed, never before. A tower is not lifted with ovens in it.

- Set it so the oven you use most sits at or below your bent-elbow height — for most adults, 42 to 48 inches from the floor. A loaded roasting pan cannot be lowered under control from above that line, which is why the lower oven should be the main oven in a stacked pair.
- Does a taller oven cabinet raise the ovens?
- No. The extra height between an 84-inch and a 96-inch tower is cabinet above the openings, not a change in where the openings sit. Confirm the cutout position on the spec sheet for your SKU, but do not order a taller box to fix a reach problem.
