The 24-inch crossover: when a base picks up its second door
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
There is a line in the Fabuwood catalog that nobody writes about: the plain B cabinet is a one-door box through 21″ and a two-door box from 24″ up. Fabuwood Galaxy Frost double door base cabinets live on the far side of that line, from 24″ all the way out to 48″, and choosing between them is mostly a question of how much wall you have and how much swing you can give up.
Every width, in all three versions
Three variants share this page and it is worth seeing them together, because the ranges do not line up. The plain B carries a drawer over the doors. The FD deletes the drawer for a full-height door. The -12D is the same full-height box at half the depth.
| Width | With top drawer | Full height (FD) | 12″ deep (FD-12D) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24″ | GF B24 · $471.25 | GF B24FD · $403.00 | GF B24FD-12D · $396.50 |
| 27″ | GF B27 · $516.75 | GF B27FD · $442.00 | GF B27FD-12D · $429.00 |
| 30″ | GF B30 · $555.75 | GF B30FD · $461.50 | GF B30FD-12D · $442.00 |
| 33″ | GF B33 · $633.75 | GF B33FD · $468.00 | GF B33FD-12D · $455.00 |
| 36″ | GF B36 · $676.00 | GF B36FD · $490.75 | GF B36FD-12D · $477.75 |
| 39″ | GF B39 · $718.25 | GF B39FD · $526.50 | — |
| 42″ | GF B42 · $757.25 | — | — |
| 48″ | GF B48 · $815.75 | — | — |
The ends of that table are the part a catalog page will not tell you. Full-height doors stop at 39″ and the shallow boxes stop at 36″, so if your opening is 42″ or 48″ the only cabinet that exists has a drawer across the top. Plan the run knowing that, rather than discovering it when the 48″ full-height box you drew turns out not to be made.
One housekeeping note: GF B24 is the 24″ two-door box, but our filters currently file it with the three-drawer bases rather than here. If you are looking for 24 inches with a drawer on top, that is where it is sitting. Every figure in the table is a discounted price read off this page on the review date — treat it as a snapshot and the live grid as current.
Why one wide box beats two narrow ones

Cabinet pricing is per box, and a box carries fixed costs — a frame, a back, two sides, a floor, hardware — that barely change as it gets wider. So every inch you add to a cabinet is cheaper than the first inch of the next one. At 36 inches of wall, one GF B36 is $676.00 against $819.00 for two GF B18 boxes. At 30 inches, one GF B30 is $555.75 against $773.50 for a GF B12 and a GF B18 side by side.
You also get a better interior. Two narrow cabinets have two frames facing you and a permanent divider between them; one wide cabinet has a single opening you can put a stock pot, a slow cooker and a stack of mixing bowls into without playing Tetris. And there is one fewer seam on the front of the run, which on a bright white paint is more visible than it sounds.
The honest limit is the shelf. A 36″ or 39″ adjustable shelf carrying tinned food is a long span, so keep the heavy things on the cabinet floor and spread weight across the width instead of stacking it mid-span. That is a habit, not a defect, but it is the reason a very wide door base is better at bulky-and-light than at heavy-and-dense.
Two doors, one opening — and the number to check first

This is a framed cabinet with full-overlay doors. The number in the SKU is the outside width of the box; the frame around the front takes some of it back, and on a two-door cabinet the frame between the doors takes a little more. Open both doors on a 33″ box and you do not get a 33″ hole — you get the clear opening, and that is the dimension every organizer, waste unit and roll-out is actually sized against.
Which produces the single most common ordering mistake we see on these: someone buys a wide two-door cabinet specifically to fit a pull-out, measures the outside of the box, and finds the unit will not pass the frame. Before you buy any accessory for a two-door cabinet, get the clear opening for that exact SKU — ask us and we will pull it off the spec sheet. Then choose a floor- or beam-mounted frame rather than a door-mounted one, because a unit hung on one of two doors drags the door out of alignment over time.
If the whole point of the cabinet is the pull-out, a one-door box is usually the better tool. Our pull-out accessories guide covers how each mounting style behaves, and the framed versus frameless explainer is worth five minutes if you are cross-shopping a European box where the opening is nearly the full width.
What SDF means, and why it costs exactly the same
Two SKUs on this page carry an extra suffix: GF B33SDF and GF B36SDF. SDF is a single drawer front — one continuous drawer face running the full width of the cabinet instead of two shorter ones sitting over each door.
Here is the useful part. GF B36SDF is $676.00 and GF B36 is $676.00. GF B33SDF is $633.75 and GF B33 is $633.75. Identical. So this is not a budget decision, it is purely how the front of your kitchen reads: an unbroken horizontal line across the top of the cabinet, versus a vertical seam splitting it. On a wide box in the middle of a sightline, or flanking a range where the drawer line runs across several cabinets, the single front looks calmer. Everywhere else it will not matter.
Decoding the rest of the suffixes — FD, the depth codes, the corner prefixes — is covered in our cabinet SKU guide.
Where the other three pages fit
The other three pages here are the same idea with one variable changed. If your opening is under 24″ or the cabinet exists to hold one specific tall thing, you are on the wrong page.
| Page | What it is | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| Single door base | 9″–21″, one door, top drawer on the plain B | The run is narrower than 24″, or you want one clear opening for a pull-out |
| Full height single door base | 9″–21″, one door, no drawer (the FD suffix) | Something tall lives there, or you want a run of doors with no drawer seam |
| Full height double door base | 24″–39″, two doors, no drawer | Bulk storage, an appliance garage or a double waste unit at counter height |
The rest of the base lineup in this paint — drawer banks, sink bases and corner cabinets — sits alongside these, and the full collection has everything from toe kick to crown in the same white.
Common questions
- At what width does a Fabuwood base get two doors?
- Twenty-four inches. The plain B cabinet is a single-door box from 9″ through 21″ and a two-door box from 24″ up to 48″. There is no width where both versions exist, so the crossover is decided for you by the opening.
- What is the widest base cabinet available?
- Forty-eight inches, as GF B48. Full-height door versions stop at 39″ (GF B39FD) and the shallow 12″-deep boxes stop at 36″, so above 39″ the only two-door base made has a drawer across the top.
- What does SDF mean in GF B36SDF?
- Single drawer front — one continuous drawer face across the full width instead of two separate fronts over the doors. It costs the same as the standard version, so treat it as a styling choice about how the run reads, not a price decision.
- Will a waste pull-out fit in a two-door cabinet?
- Often, but check the clear opening first rather than the outside width — the frame between the doors is what limits it. Use a floor- or beam-mounted frame rather than a door-mounted unit, since hanging weight on one of two doors pulls it out of line over time.
- How much room do the doors need to open?
- About half the cabinet width each: roughly 19½″ per door on a 39″ box, 24″ on a 48″ box. In a galley where runs face each other, check that two open doors do not meet in the aisle before you commit to the wide box.
- Is one wide cabinet cheaper than two narrow ones?
- Yes. A 36″ GF B36 is $676.00 against $819.00 for two 18″ boxes, and you get one uninterrupted interior instead of two compartments with a frame between them. Split a wide opening only when an appliance, a corner or a swing problem forces it.
