Building a tall wall around a 24-inch pantry

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

Almost nobody buys one tall cabinet. A 24-inch pantry turns up on a wall that has already been given over to height — beside a second pantry, beside an oven tower, beside the refrigerator — and the number that decides the order is not 24 but the length of that whole wall. This page prices the box, then prices the wall it lands in.

The eight units, with the codes to order them by

Everything built at this width in this collection is a two-door pantry. Two depths cross four heights, which gives eight boxes and no other configuration — no drawer version, no glass, no appliance opening. The codes read width, then depth, then height, so GN TP242490 is 24 inches wide, 24 deep and 90 tall, and you can read any of the eight the same way.

96″GN TP241296 — $1,365.00GN TP242496 — $1,397.50$32.50

The whole family fits inside $156.00. That is the useful thing to know before you start: at this width nothing you choose is a budget decision, so choose on the wall and the ceiling and stop worrying about the number.

What the second tall box costs

Here is where the width page earns its keep. The tall ladder in this collection offers 15, 18, 24, 30 and 36 inches of pantry and 33 inches of oven tower, so a 24 can be paired six ways, and each pairing lands on a different wall length. Everything below is the 84-inch, 24-inch-deep version of each box, because that is the combination that reads as one continuous run against a standard base line.

A 24-inch pantry plus one more tall box, at 84″ and full depth
Wall it fillsThe pairDisplayed total
39″GN TP242484 + GN TP152484 (15″ pantry)$2,167.75
42″GN TP242484 + GN TP182484 (18″ pantry)$2,323.75
48″GN TP242484 twice$2,541.50
54″GN TP242484 + GN TP302484 (30″ pantry)$2,746.25
57″GN TP242484 + GN OC3384D (33″ double oven tower)$2,869.75
60″GN TP242484 + GN TP362484 (36″ pantry)$2,983.50

Two things fall out of that table. The first is that 48 inches of storage built from a matched pair costs $2,541.50, while 60 inches built as a 24 and a 36 costs $2,983.50 — about $37 an inch for the twelve inches of difference, which is the cheapest storage on the whole order. The second is that the oven wall is the expensive one, and it is expensive because of the appliance tower, not because of the pantry standing next to it.

Run the same figures as a rate and the case for a longer wall gets clearer still. The 39-inch pairing works out around $55.60 for each inch of frontage, the 48-inch pair about $52.95, and the 60-inch run about $49.73. Every extra foot of tall wall you can find makes the whole run cheaper per inch, because the fixed costs in a cabinet — the frame, the hinges, the finished top, the carton it ships in — are spread across more of it.

That is an argument for deciding the length of the tall wall first and the boxes second. Walls get shorter during a project, never longer: a radiator turns up, a doorway will not move, someone wants the fridge somewhere else. Establish the longest continuous stretch the room can give to full-height cabinetry, and then fill it.

Mixing depths in one run

The twelve-inch pantry is a genuinely useful box — it sits flush with the wall cabinets and reads as a wall of doors rather than a piece of furniture. It is also the one thing that will wreck a tall run if you mix it in carelessly, because the neighbours it sits beside are not all available shallow.

The oven towers at 33 inches are built full depth only. There is no shallow version, because the appliance and its cutout demand the depth. So a 12-inch pantry set beside an oven tower leaves a twelve-inch step in the middle of the elevation with a raw cabinet side showing at the back of it — and on a mid-tone gray, that side is a large lit plane that the eye goes straight to.

Before a tall wall goes on the order

A run of tall boxes is the least forgiving part of a kitchen order. Wall cabinets can be nudged, base cabinets hide behind a countertop overhang, and a tall run stands there floor to ceiling showing every millimetre of what you got wrong.

  1. Match the heights across the wall. Two boxes of different heights beside one another need a deliberate detail above the shorter one, not a gap.
  2. Add the filler into the plan rather than the leftover. The tall ladder has no 21 and no 27, so a 21-inch gap is an 18 plus filler and a 27-inch gap is a 24 plus filler.
  3. Confirm the finished side. A tall run that ends in open floor needs a panel on the exposed end, and that is a separate quoted line.
  4. Anchor through the top rail into framing and add blocking if the studs fall wrong. A loaded pantry of this size is top-heavy with the doors open.
  5. Measure the delivery route. These arrive pre-assembled, so a 96-inch box has to turn the stair, not just fit the room.

Common questions

How much does a 24 inch pantry cabinet cost in this collection?
From $1,241.50 for GN TP241284, the 84-inch-tall shallow version, to $1,397.50 for GN TP242496 at 96 inches tall and full depth. All eight units sit inside a $156.00 band, so height and depth are room decisions here rather than budget ones.
Can I put a pantry cabinet next to a wall oven cabinet?
Yes, and it is the usual tall-wall layout — a 24-inch pantry beside the 33-inch oven tower fills 57 inches and costs $2,869.75 in the 84-inch build. Use the full-depth pantry, because the oven towers are built full depth only and a shallow pantry leaves a step.
Is it cheaper to buy two 24 inch pantries or one wider cabinet?
Two of GN TP242484 fill 48 inches for $2,541.50. Where the wall is uninterrupted a single wider box gives a continuous shelf for less, so buy the pair only when you want the storage genuinely divided — separate households, separate functions, or a lock-up.
What sizes of tall cabinet does this finish carry?
Pantries at 15, 18, 24, 30 and 36 inches wide, and oven towers at 33. There is no 21-inch and no 27-inch tall cabinet, and 33 inches is an appliance width only — no pantry is built there.
Do 24 inch pantry cabinets come shallow?
They do — GN TP241284 through GN TP241296 are the 12-inch-deep versions, priced $26.00 to $32.50 below their full-depth twins. A shallow box lines up with the wall cabinets above rather than the base run beside it.
