Galaxy Cobblestone farm sink cabinets: the apron becomes the brightest thing on the run

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

Set a white fireclay apron into a Fabuwood Galaxy Cobblestone farm sink cabinet and the sink stops being a fixture. Against a dark gray-brown stain it is the brightest object on the wall, and every edge around it gets drawn in. Three widths are listed, GC FS30, FS33 and FS36, at $806.00 to $825.50. The choice that shapes this page more than the width is which sink material goes into the opening, and how carefully the gap around it is set.

White, stainless, black or copper apron against a dark stain

White fireclay apron-front sink set into a dark gray-brown Galaxy Cobblestone farm sink cabinet under a light quartz counter
On a door this dark, the white apron is the focal point, and so is the even reveal on either side of it.

With a white or gray cabinet, choosing the sink is about avoiding near misses. With a dark one, it is about deciding how loud the sink should be. The four common apron materials behave very differently here.

Apron materials against this finish
ApronHow it reads on the dark boxWatch out forVerdict
White fireclayMaximum contrast; the sink becomes the centrepiece of the runEvery chip at the apron edge and every uneven gap showsThe classic choice, if the install is careful
Stainless steelReflects the dark doors, so it reads darker than it does in a showroomWater spots on the steel and the door at the same timeA good middle path in a busy kitchen
Black or charcoal compositeMerges with the cabinet; the apron almost disappearsYou pay the apron premium for a detail no one seesOnly if you want the sink to vanish
Copper or bronzePicks up the brown undertone; warm and quietA patina that keeps changingThe easiest pairing for this stain

If a black sink is the plan, a standard sink base with an undermount bowl gives the same look for $386.75 to $572.00, which is several hundred less than any apron box. Our guide to dark cabinet pairings shows the same effect across whole kitchens.

Why the gap around the apron matters more on a dark cabinet

On an apron cabinet the sink face sits in an opening framed by the stiles on each side and the counter above. With a white apron in a white box, the gap between sink and stile is a white edge next to another white edge. With a dark box it becomes a sharp light-and-dark line, and a gap that is an eighth wider on the left than on the right is obvious from across the room.

So the installer's job here is centring and levelling the sink on its support until the reveal is even on both sides and along the top. That only works with the sink on site when the cabinet is set, so plan the delivery accordingly. The opening height is not published on the listing, and apron faces vary between brands, so send the sink's spec drawing to your designer and have them confirm the fit before either item is ordered.

What size cabinet for a 33-inch farmhouse sink in this line

The box wants roughly three inches more than the sink's outside width. That puts a 27″ apron in GC FS30 ($806.00), a 30″ in GC FS33 ($815.75) and a 33″ in GC FS36 ($825.50). The spread across all three is $19.50, so let the sink decide. There is no box wider than 36″ in Galaxy, so a 36″ double-bowl apron has no home here, and a 33″ double only fits the largest box.

Like every Galaxy cabinet these ship assembled, with the Blum soft-close hinges on the doors below the sink and the same ½″ veneered plywood box as the rest of the kitchen. The farmhouse premium over a standard sink base pays for the cut-down front and the internal support the sink rests on. If you plan a cast-iron sink, ask your designer to confirm the load rating, which the catalog does not publish.

The carcass-only apron boxes on the loose parts page

This finish also lists the three apron boxes as carcass-only loose parts: GCB-FS30-BO at $565.50, GCB-FS33-BO at $572.00 and GCB-FS36-BO at $578.50. They are not a cheaper way to buy the cabinet. A carcass without its doors is what an installer or a builder orders when a box has to be replaced, or when the front is being handled some other way on a specific job.

The listing does not spell out exactly what ships in the carton (whether the sink support, the face frame or hinge plates are included), so confirm it with your designer before relying on one. For a normal kitchen order, the complete farm sink cabinet on this page is the right line item. The carcass-only parts sit with the other loose parts, and trade buyers ordering parts like this regularly can use Captivating Pro, where contractor trade pricing applies.

An apron sink in a dark island under a lighter perimeter

Two-tone kitchen with a dark island, white perimeter cabinets, a light stone waterfall counter and brass hardware
The dark island under a light perimeter is the most common home for this colour, and brass hardware reads well against it.

Cobblestone is often ordered for the island and lower run of a two-tone kitchen, with a lighter Galaxy finish on the walls. If the sink goes into that island, the apron faces the room, which makes it the first thing a guest sees. That is the case for a white apron: a lighter sink ties the dark island back to the pale perimeter. Make sure to order the island box in this finish and the perimeter boxes in theirs; the SKU prefix is how the order tells them apart.

Before committing, hold the door sample against the sink maker's material chip and the counter slab under your own light. Our article on matching cabinets, counters and flooring walks through the contrast rules for a split kitchen.

Undermount after all, or a sink in the corner

An undermount or drop-in bowl goes into a standard sink base, 21″ to 42″. A corner sink needs the complete diagonal sink base at $617.50, or the diagonal sink front for a corner an installer builds on site. There is no apron version of either corner unit. Everything else for the room is in the Cobblestone collection, and a free 3D design will show the apron and the undermount side by side before you choose.

Common questions

Does a white farmhouse sink look good with dark cabinets?
Yes. It is the highest-contrast pairing and the most common one. The trade-off is that the white apron draws the eye to its edges, so chips and an uneven gap on either side show more than they would against a light cabinet. Budget installer time to centre it.
Should I get a black farmhouse sink with dark brown cabinets?
Only if you want the sink to disappear. A black or charcoal apron merges with this stain, and you pay the apron premium for a detail that barely reads. An undermount black sink in a standard sink base gives nearly the same look for less.
What size cabinet do I need for a 33 inch farmhouse sink?
GC FS36 at $825.50. The cabinet needs about three inches more than the sink's outside width. There is no wider apron box in Galaxy, so confirm the sink's outside dimension on its drawing.
What is the carcass-only farm sink listing?
GCB-FS30-BO, FS33-BO and FS36-BO ($565.50 to $578.50) are the apron boxes sold as loose parts, typically for replacements or trade jobs. For a normal kitchen, order the complete farm sink cabinet, and confirm the carton contents with your designer before ordering a carcass.
How tall is the apron opening?
The listing does not publish it. Apron heights vary between sink brands, so send the sink's spec drawing to your designer to confirm the fit before ordering either one.
Does the farm sink cabinet come with the sink?
No. The sink is bought separately, and it needs to be on site when the cabinet is set so the installer can level it and even out the reveal before the counter is templated.
