Galaxy Cobblestone diagonal sink front: what a dark corner forgives, and what it gives away

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

The Fabuwood Galaxy Cobblestone diagonal sink front, GC DSF36 at $149.50, is a door in an angled frame, stained the same dark gray-brown as the rest of the kitchen, with no cabinet behind it. An installer fastens it across a corner cavity formed by the two runs meeting there. On a finish this dark, that site-built corner has a particular character: it hides some mistakes very well and shows others immediately.

A face and a frame, with the floor sold separately

The 36 in the SKU is the wall space each leg gives up, the same corner footprint as the complete diagonal sink base. The frame closes the angled opening between the runs, and the full-overlay door hangs on Blum soft-close hinges. There are no sides, back or floor. The floor is its own listing, GC DSFL36, at $100.75: a deck that gives the cavity a proper bottom for a bin, a filter or a drip tray to sit on.

If you came here looking for a cabinet, the complete box is the $617.50 listing, not this one.

The real cost of a site-built corner against the complete box

On the price list, front plus floor is $250.25, which looks like a saving of $367.25 against the complete corner cabinet. That gap narrows once you add the parts the site-built corner needs and the box does not.

The honest reason to build the corner is not the money. It is when the cavity needs to be something the factory box cannot be: bigger for an oversized bowl, open to one side, or fitted around plumbing that comes up in an awkward spot. If none of those apply, the complete cabinet is usually the easier job.

Dark hides the gaps, and shows every pale edge

The most useful thing about building this corner in a dark finish is the shadow. A narrow gap between the angled frame and the neighbouring cabinet opens into a dark cavity, and against a near-black gray-brown that gap almost disappears. On a white front the same gap is a dark line you notice every day. So the scribe does not have to be perfect to look clean.

What this finish will not forgive is anything pale. Raw plywood on the edge of a site-built deck, the unfinished end of a cleat, a light wood shim that sticks out below the toe kick, or a cut edge on a filler all show up as bright lines against the stain. The rule for a dark corner: whatever is visible from the room must be a finished part in this finish, and whatever is not a finished part must sit behind something that is.

  • Toe kick across the angle: the GC TK8 in this finish, from the decorative accessories page, never a leftover from another job.
  • Fillers where the runs meet the walls: GC base fillers, cut so the factory edge faces the room.
  • Any exposed cabinet end nearby: a finished side panel rather than a painted-over plywood edge.
  • Cut edges and small nicks: the finish's touch-up kit, GCB-TOUCH-UP-KIT at $62.40 on the loose parts page. A hardware-store stain marker will not match the gray and the brown at once.

Seeing into a dark cavity when something leaks

A site-built corner is deeper and more irregular than a factory box, and once the front is on, the only light inside it comes through a single angled door. The walls of the cavity are the ends of the two flanking cabinets, with the floor piece at the bottom. Nothing in there is bright, so a small drip at the back can go unnoticed for weeks.

Two small decisions help. Ask the plumber to put the shut-off valves toward the front of the cavity, reachable from the door without climbing in. And put a battery puck light, or a motion-sensor strip, on the underside of the counter inside the corner. It costs very little, and it means the first look under the sink after a noise actually shows you something. If the under-sink mat will fit the floor piece (ask your designer), it gives a leak a contrasting surface to show up on.

The grain on the front will not match its neighbours exactly

This is a stain, and the wood grain shows through it. Every door in the kitchen has its own figure, and the angled front is no different. Because it faces the room at forty-five degrees, it catches light differently, so a busier stretch of grain on this one door can look more pronounced than on the doors on either wall. That is natural wood under a stain, not a defect, and it is part of why the finish looks like wood rather than paint.

If a perfectly even corner matters to you, look at the front when it arrives, before it is fastened, and raise anything unusual with your designer then. Once the front is scribed and screwed to the cleats, you have accepted it.

Where the finished corner cabinet is listed

The diagonal sink base is the finished corner cabinet at $617.50, with its own sides, back and deck. A sink on a straight wall goes in a sink base from $386.75, and an apron sink needs the farm sink cabinet from $806.00. The two runs this front ties together are under base cabinets, and the full set of wall and tall units is in the Cobblestone collection.

Common questions

Is the diagonal sink front a complete cabinet?
No. GC DSF36 is an angled frame and door only. It closes a corner cavity an installer builds from the two cabinet runs. The complete corner cabinet is the diagonal sink base at $617.50.
Do I need the DSFL36 floor?
In most cases, yes. At $100.75 it gives the cavity a finished bottom. Without it, the installer has to build a deck on site, and on a dark finish any pale edge of site-cut material will show. Confirm what ships in the floor carton with your designer.
Is a site-built corner cheaper than the diagonal sink base?
On parts alone, front and floor are $250.25 against $617.50. Add toe kick, fillers, blocking and the installer's extra time, and the gap closes quickly. Build the corner for the cavity you need, not to save money.
Will gaps around a site-built corner show on dark cabinets?
Narrow gaps into the dark cavity are hard to see against this finish. Pale materials are the problem: raw plywood edges, light shims and cut filler edges show plainly, so anything visible from the room must be a finished part in this finish.
Why does the grain on the corner front look different from my other doors?
Cobblestone is a stain with the grain visible, and every door has its own figure. The angled front catches light differently from the flat runs, which can make its grain stand out more. That is natural wood, not a defect; inspect the front before it is fastened if evenness matters to you.
Is there a touch-up kit for Cobblestone?
Yes. GCB-TOUCH-UP-KIT is $62.40 on the loose parts page. Order it with the corner parts so cut edges and small nicks can be matched on install day.
