Four fronts, four pulls: choosing hardware on a Galaxy Cobblestone 4 drawer base cabinet
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
No cabinet in a kitchen carries more pulls per foot than this one. A Galaxy Cobblestone 4 drawer base cabinet stacks four short fronts in a box only 15″, 18″ or 21″ wide, so whatever metal you choose, this is where it shows most densely. On a dark gray-brown stain that choice matters more than on a light door, because some metals come forward and others vanish.
Pulls per foot of run, by drawer base
Fabuwood makes this configuration in three widths: GC DB15-4 at $780.00, GC DB18-4 at $799.50 and GC DB21-4 at $832.00, each 34½″ high and 24″ deep, pre-assembled, with dovetailed solid wood boxes on Blum soft-close runners. What sets it apart for hardware is density.
| Cabinet | Fronts | Pulls per foot of run |
|---|---|---|
| GC DB15-4, four-drawer | 4 | 3.2 |
| GC DB21-4, four-drawer | 4 | 2.3 |
| GC DB18, three-drawer | 3 | 2.0 |
| GC DB36, three-drawer | 3 | 1.0 |
| GC DB30-2, two-drawer | 2 | 0.8 |
A 15″ bank puts more than three times as much metal on a foot of wall as a wide three-drawer. Put one on an island end facing the seating, or a pair either side of an appliance, and it becomes the part of the kitchen that decides whether the hardware looked right. Buy the pulls with this cabinet in mind, not the sink base.
Which hardware works on dark gray-brown cabinets

Metal reads by contrast. On a white door almost anything shows; on this stain the lighter and warmer metals come forward and the dark ones recede. From what we see on finished Cobblestone kitchens:
| Finish | On Cobblestone | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Brass, satin or polished | Strong contrast; warms the brown in the stain | The room has warm light, wood or a warm counter |
| Champagne bronze | Softer than brass, still clearly visible | You want warmth without a gold look |
| Polished nickel or chrome | Cool, bright contrast; pulls the gray side forward | The uppers are Frost and the appliances stainless |
| Brushed stainless | Visible and quiet; matches appliances | The pulls should read as part of the appliance wall |
| Matte black | Nearly disappears | You want a plain dark block with no visible hardware |
| Oil-rubbed bronze | Sinks into the brown undertone | Rarely; it reads as a shadow rather than a pull |
Matte black is the one that surprises people. It is the safe default on white and beige doors, so it is often ordered by habit, and on this finish the four pulls become hard to see, especially at night. That can be a deliberate look, closer to furniture than to a kitchen, but on a cabinet you open without looking it means hunting for the pull.
Knobs, bars or edge pulls: where the fingerprints go
On a dark stain, skin oil shows as a shiny patch when light crosses it, so the hardware type decides where those patches form. Four short fronts in a column means four places for them.
- Knobs: fingertips land on the rail around the knob. Over time each front gets a small halo of sheen, four in a row. A quick wipe removes it, but it comes back.
- Bar pulls: the hand wraps metal and rarely touches the wood. The cleanest option on this finish, and the easiest to grab by feel.
- Edge or tab pulls on the top edge of each front: no hardware in the panel and very little contact with the face, but they sit on the ledge where dust and flour collect, so the top edges need dusting more often.
For most people we would choose bars, the same bar on all four fronts. The two-drawer page has the mark-by-mark wear table and the cleaning routine for this finish.
Pull size on a short front
Each front is roughly 7½″ tall; that is our measurement, not a published figure. A short front with a long bar looks stretched, and a very short pull on a 21″ front looks lost. Common hole spacings are 96 mm, 128 mm and 160 mm, and on this cabinet we usually settle on 96 mm for the 15″, 128 mm for the 18″ and 128 or 160 mm for the 21″, centred on the top rail or on the panel. It is a proportion call, not a rule; hold one pull against the door sample before you buy the set.
Mount the pull in the same place on all four fronts. Stacked hardware is where an uneven line shows first, and on a dark finish a bright metal makes the line obvious. If the run also has three-drawer banks, keep the same pull on every drawer front even where the widths change; one size across the kitchen is calmer than sizes graded to width.
What goes in four shallow drawers, and the inserts made for them
By our measurement each drawer has four to five inches of usable height, and the inside width is about five inches less than the cabinet. That suits spice jars standing up, utensils, wrap and foil, towels and flat trays, and not bottles.
Inserts in this finish for these widths: for the 15″, GC CD-15/18 at $201.50 and GC DCD-15 BLUM at $354.25; for the 18″, the same CD-15/18 tray, GC KCUP-18 at $224.25 and GC DCD-18 BLUM at $429.00; for the 21″, GC CD-21/24 at $273.00, GC KCUP-21/24 at $266.50 and GC DCD-21 BLUM at $468.00. The DCD units are second drawers on their own Blum runners inside the top drawer rather than loose trays. Fit the top drawer and leave the rest bare. The full list is on the accessories page.
Buying the cabinet and the hardware together
Order a single pull first and look at it against the sample under your own bulbs, at night as well as in daylight. Brass looks warmer under warm light and more yellow under cool light; nickel holds steady. Then order the full set, one per front: a pair of these cabinets needs eight.
The cabinets ship assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks, and the pulls should be on site before the installer is. The base cabinet lineup and the full Cobblestone collection have the rest of the run, and our design service can mark hardware positions on the elevation, turned around in 3–5 business days.
Common questions
- What color hardware goes with dark gray-brown cabinets?
- Brass and champagne bronze give the strongest warm contrast; polished nickel and chrome give a cool one and bring out the gray in the stain. Brushed stainless is quieter. Matte black and oil-rubbed bronze nearly disappear on this finish.
- Does black hardware work on dark cabinets?
- It works if you want the hardware to vanish and the cabinets to read as a solid dark block. On Cobblestone, matte black pulls are hard to see, especially at night, which is awkward on a drawer you open without looking.
- Knobs or pulls on dark drawers?
- Bar pulls, on this finish. Knobs put fingertips on the wood, and on a dark stain skin oil shows as a shiny halo around each one. A bar keeps the hand on the metal and is easier to find by feel.
- What size pulls for a 15-inch drawer?
- We usually choose a 96 mm (about 3¾″) centre-to-centre pull for a 15″ front, 128 mm for 18″ and 128 or 160 mm for 21″. It is a proportion choice, not a standard; test one pull against the door sample first.
- How much is a four-drawer base in Cobblestone?
- $780.00 for GC DB15-4, $799.50 for GC DB18-4 and $832.00 for GC DB21-4, each pre-assembled with dovetailed drawers on Blum soft-close runners. Hardware is chosen separately. Prices move; the product grid above is current.
- Can I move the pulls later?
- Not without leaving holes. The Cobblestone touch-up kit can darken the edge of a small hole but not hide it, so settle the pull and its position before drilling, and use a jig so the four holes line up.
