Brass, nickel or black? Choosing the metal for a Galaxy Indigo lazy Susan base

Hardware is where a navy kitchen commits itself, and a Galaxy Indigo lazy Susan base cabinet — GI LSB33 at $1,030.25 or GI LSB36 at $1,095.25 — is the single door that makes the choice hardest. It sits between two runs, its knob is seen from both, and the pulls on either side swing toward it. Settle the metal here and the rest of the kitchen follows.
What each metal does on a slate navy

Indigo is a grayed, dusky blue rather than a bright navy, and that changes the usual advice slightly. A bright navy can carry almost any metal. A slate one is quieter, so the metal has more say in whether the room reads warm or cool.
| Finish | On this navy | What it asks of the rest of the room | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Satin or unlacquered brass | The classic contrast: warm against cool, it lifts the blue and makes it look deliberate | Brass or warm-toned lights and a faucet in the same family; warm white uppers suit it | The safest choice, and the one navy is known for |
| Polished or satin nickel | Cool on cool; crisp and quiet, the blue reads grayer beside it | Chrome or stainless elsewhere; a cool white like Frost | Good in a coastal or modern plan, flatter otherwise |
| Matte black | Nearly vanishes; the knob reads as a shadow on the door | Black fixtures, or it looks unfinished | Fine if you want the door to look handle-less |
| Oil-rubbed or dark bronze | Warm but low contrast; can look muddy in a dim corner | Wood tones and aged metals nearby | Try it on a sample at night before committing |
The pattern: a navy wants a metal that differs from it in temperature, in value or in both. Brass differs in both, which is why it is the pairing everyone reaches for, and nickel differs in value only, which is why it looks tidier and cooler. Black differs in neither. If you are torn, buy one knob in each and hold them against the Indigo door sample; the difference is obvious within seconds.
One metal for the whole kitchen, decided at the corner
In a two-tone kitchen the corner knob is where both colours can see the same hardware. If the uppers are white and the lowers navy, a single metal across both is what ties them together; brass on navy and nickel on white can look like two kitchens that happened to share a room. The faucet, the pendant lights and any exposed hinges or rails usually follow the same choice, so it is worth deciding before the plumbing fixtures are ordered, not after.
Mixing is possible but should be done on purpose: one warm metal for everything you touch (knobs, pulls, faucet) and one cool one for everything you do not (appliances, light fittings), for instance. Our 2026 style guide shows pairings that hold together, and the cabinet ideas gallery has navy kitchens with brass in several variations.
Placing one knob on a door between two runs
The door on a corner rotating cabinet opens toward the cabinets on both legs, and those cabinets have their own pulls projecting into its path. A long bar pull on the lazy Susan door itself is the wrong tool: it collides with the neighbours and it is seen end-on from half the kitchen. A knob is the usual answer, placed near the free edge of the door at the height of the knobs or pulls on the neighbouring doors so the line runs unbroken round the corner.
Then look at the two flanking cabinets. If they carry long pulls, check on the drawing that the corner door clears them when it opens, and either shorten those two pulls or hold the neighbour back with a filler. There is also a cheap mechanical fix: Fabuwood lists Blum restrictor clips for this cabinet, GIN BLUM-LSB RES CLIP, a two-pack at $3.90, which limit how far the hinges open so the door stops short of the hardware beside it. Ask your designer what angle they set. On a painted navy door, a pull hitting the face leaves a pale mark, so the clips are worth putting on the order.
Lazy Susan corner cabinet sizes, 33 or 36 inch, and the stocked shelf
The two boxes are the same cabinet at two footprints: 33″ or 36″ along each wall, 34½″ high, with rotating trays inside and the door hung at the factory (Fabuwood’s spec book notes Lazy Susan cabinets do not get the soft-close mechanism). They are $65.00 apart, and the 36 turns a larger tray, so take it unless one leg cannot spare the extra 3″. Tray diameter is not printed on the listing; confirm it with your designer before promising the corner to a particular stockpot.
Two parts are worth knowing about. The listing carries an adjustable shelf for each size, GIN AS-LSB33 at $146.25 and GIN AS-LSB36 at $204.75; ask your designer whether that is the tray itself before ordering it as a replacement. There is no carcass-only lazy Susan in the Indigo listing, unlike the blind and easy reach boxes. For how a rotating corner compares with the blind box and the easy reach on storage, the Fabuwood accessories guide shows all three open.
Common questions
- What is the best hardware for navy cabinets?
- Brass is the classic pairing because it contrasts with navy in both warmth and depth. Satin or polished nickel suits a cooler, more modern kitchen. Matte black nearly disappears on Galaxy Indigo, and dark bronze can look muddy in a dim corner.
- Gold or silver hardware on navy blue cabinets?
- Gold tones make the navy look warmer and more deliberate; silver tones keep it cool and quiet. Choose by the white you pair it with and the faucet you want: brass with a warm white, nickel with a cool one.
- Should a lazy Susan door have a knob or a pull?
- A knob, in most kitchens. The corner door swings toward the cabinets on both legs, and a long pull collides with their hardware and is seen end-on from half the room. Set it near the free edge at the height of the neighbouring hardware.
- How do I stop a corner cabinet door hitting the next handle?
- Use Blum restrictor clips, which limit how far the hinges open. Fabuwood lists a two-pack for the Indigo lazy Susan at $3.90. Otherwise shorten the neighbouring pulls or hold that cabinet back with a filler.
- How much is a 36 inch lazy Susan corner cabinet in Galaxy Indigo?
- $1,095.25 as displayed for the GI LSB36, and $1,030.25 for the 33″ GI LSB33. The listed adjustable shelves are $146.25 and $204.75; confirm with your designer whether that part is the tray.
