Galaxy Dove Double Door Base Cabinets

Seven widths, all 34½″ high and 24″ deep, each with a pair of full-overlay doors below and a drawer tier above. On most widths the tier is two fronts, one over each door, with a ⅝″ dovetailed drawer box on Blum Tandem soft-close glides behind each. At 33″ and 36″ the catalog offers a second version with a single front across the whole tier — the SDF suffix.

Two things the table leaves out. The 24″ two-door box, GD B24 at $471.25, sits with the three-drawer banks in our filters at the moment rather than here. And above 39″ the tier is not optional — the drawerless two-door boxes end at GD B39FD, so a 42″ or 48″ opening always gets a drawer line across it. GD B36SDF and GD B36 sit on the grid at the same $676.00, GD B33SDF and GD B33 at the same $633.75, so the single drawer front is not a price decision. It is a decision about what the line across the top of the run looks like where this box sits in it. Two fronts over two doors put a vertical break in the tier at the centre of the cabinet; one front does not.

On this paint the break is quieter than on a bright white — the gap between two fronts reads as a soft grey hairline rather than a dark cut — which changes the reason to choose SDF. You are not taking it to hide a seam. You are taking it for rhythm: a 36″ box between two drawer banks with one long front reads as a fourth bank and the tier runs unbroken from bank to bank; the same box under a window with a sink base either side reads fine with two. One caution: whether the single front hides one wide drawer box or two is not stated on the listing, and it matters for what you can lay flat in there, so ask us and we will pull it from the spec sheet before you order.

A drop-in cooktop is the common reason a tier goes fixed. The appliance body drops into the top of the cabinet, exactly where the drawer boxes would run, and depending on how deep it hangs the fronts either lose depth or become fixed panels that keep the line and open nothing. The cooktop maker’s cutout drawing has the below-counter depth on it; that figure, not the cabinet, decides it. Tell us which fronts are to be fixed and the box arrives that way — a fixed front still takes a pull, so the line continues across it.

The catalog also carries loose drawer panels — GD DWR1-1/2 at $123.50 and GD DWR3 at $130.00 — and a 30″ knee drawer, GD KD30 at $172.25, which is a drawer tier with no cabinet under it. The knee drawer is what gives a desk or a seated stretch of counter the same line as the cabinets on either side of it, so the tier does not stop dead at the knee space. Hardware is most visible on the drawer tier because it sits at counter height in a single row and every box has to agree with the next. Dove takes the warm metals the way every warm paint does — brass and bronze sit naturally on it — and it also takes matte black, which on this off-white reads as graphic and intended where on Linen it can look heavy. That is a real difference between the two finishes, and it gets decided on this page because the tier is where the pulls line up.

The counter is the other line. The tier sits directly under the slab edge, so whatever the counter does, the tier shows it: a warm-white quartz makes the run soft and quiet; a white quartz with soft grey veining is a combination this paint can carry and Linen cannot; a stark bright white slab is the one that makes the drawer line look a shade off, because the off-white is being compared with a harder white six inches above it. Narrower than 27″ with the drawer kept is the single door page; the same widths with no tier at all are the full-height two-door boxes; the cooking positions where you stand all evening want a three-drawer bank rather than a second door box; and the sink bases handle the one spot where a drawer tier is always a false front anyway.
