Which finish gets the pot drawer? A Galaxy Dove 2 drawer base cabinet in a two-tone kitchen
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
Two-tone is the layout we draw most in this finish — an off-white perimeter over a Timber or Indigo island — and the pot drawer is the one box that can land on either side of the split, because it follows the cooktop. A Galaxy Dove 2 drawer base cabinet comes in 24″, 30″ and 36″ and nothing else, so the question on this page is less which width than which wall, which finish, and what two fronts a yard wide do in a photograph.
Cooktop on the island or on the wall: where the two-drawer lands

The pot drawer goes under or beside whatever cooks. In a two-tone kitchen that means it is either an off-white box on the perimeter or an accent-colour box in the island, and the order is written differently each way. Three layouts cover nearly every plan we see.
| Layout | Cooking surface sits | Pot drawer finish | On the Dove order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slide-in range on the perimeter, island for seating and prep | Off-white wall, in its own 30″ or 36″ bay | Dove, beside the range | GD DB24-2 at $724.75, the width that usually fits beside a range bay without a filler |
| Cooktop set into the perimeter counter, wall oven elsewhere | Off-white wall | Dove, directly under the cooktop | GD DB30-2 at $835.25 under a 30″ cooktop; GD DB36-2 at $1,017.25 under a 36″ |
| Cooktop in the island, sink and ovens on the perimeter | Island, in Timber or Indigo | The island finish — not this page | Nothing from this page; the Dove drawer budget goes to three-drawer banks at the prep counter |
The third row is the one people get wrong. If the island cooks, the pot drawer belongs to the island: check the Timber or Indigo collection for the -2 base in the width the cooktop needs and order it with the rest of the island, keeping the Dove side to what the perimeter actually does — sink, dishwasher, prep. Dropping an off-white two-drawer into a Timber island to save a decision reads as a leftover, not a choice.
Price is not the tiebreaker. Construction is identical across the Galaxy line — ⅝″ dovetailed solid wood drawers, Blum Tandem plus Blumotion runners, pre-assembled, 7 days to 3 weeks — so the split costs nothing extra. Whichever wall it lands on, send the cooktop model with the order: how far its body drops below the counter decides whether the top drawer stays a drawer or becomes a fixed front.
A yard of off-white in one panel: how the wide fronts photograph
GD DB36-2 carries two fronts that are each a single five-piece panel a yard across and roughly 15″ tall once the toe kick is out of the 34½″ box — more uninterrupted paint than a 36″ door base shows, which splits the same width between two doors and a stile. On a perimeter run, nothing else below the counter puts this much of the finish in one flat plane.
That makes it the swatch. A phone sets its white balance off the largest neutral surface in the frame, and on a perimeter with a two-drawer bank that surface is these fronts. Beside a Timber or Indigo island the camera reads them as white, and the room photographs as a white kitchen with a dark island — the two-tone payoff, and why resale listings love the pairing. Beside a bright white refrigerator the same fronts read cream, because the camera has a whiter white to compare them with.
Daylight does the same thing more slowly. In a south-facing room these panels are a clean warm white; in a north-facing one under a 4000K bulb they are the first place the finish drifts toward grey, precisely because there is so much of it in one flat plane. Run the pendants and the under-cabinet strips at 2700–3000K and the drift never starts. The Fabuwood colour guide has the full light story; this is the cabinet it matters on.
Off-white drawer fronts beside a white range
A slide-in range is the appliance that sits closest to this cabinet, often touching it, and its colour decides how honest the off-white has to be. Stainless and black ranges give Dove nothing to be compared with, so the fronts read white. A white range does give it something, and the seam is real: narrower than it would be on Linen, which reads as beige beside any white appliance, but not invisible.
Three ways to handle it, in the order we suggest them. Choose a stainless or black appliance, which most two-tone kitchens do anyway. Put a door base against a white range and move the pot drawer one cabinet over, so the biggest panel of off-white in the run is not the one touching the whitest object in the room. Or accept it — plenty of people want exactly that look, and in photographs the eye lands on the island long before the seam. What we would not do is put Frost on the range wall to split the difference: a stark white is what makes Dove show its warmth, and the result looks like two batches, not two colours.
Black or brass pulls on a 15-inch front
Two fronts, two pulls, at hip height on the widest panels in the run — this is the cabinet that shows the hardware decision most. Dove takes brass and bronze the way any warm white does, and it also carries matte black cleanly, which is the option Linen makes risky: black on a beige door reads heavy, black on an off-white one reads graphic. Whatever metal the island wears, the same metal on these two fronts is what ties the halves together.
Length is proportion, not a spec. On a 36″ front a short pull looks like a knob; a bar around a third of the cabinet’s width, centred on the panel, sits right — our rule, not the catalog’s. Buy one pull before you buy twenty and hold it against the sample under your own light; brass in particular changes character between a warm bulb and a cool one.
What two deep drawers hold, and the wood you see when they open

Two fronts of about 15″ give each drawer something near ten inches of open height and roughly five inches less width inside than the cabinet is wide — our measurements, not a published figure. That is the deepest drawer on any base in the finish: a Dutch oven with the lid on, skillets stacked flat, sheet pans on edge in the 30″ and 36″. A 12-quart stockpot with its lid lives behind a door.
Open one and the finish stops at the front. The drawer is ⅝″ solid wood, dovetailed at the corners, riding on Blum Tandem plus Blumotion full-extension concealed runners inside a box with a natural wood veneer interior — so the view into a loaded pot drawer is pale wood and steel with an off-white edge around it. Against that wood the Dove front reads white, not cream; it is the same effect the dark island has, on a smaller scale, every time the drawer opens.
Factory trays exist for these widths — GD KCUP-21/24 at $266.50 for the 24″, GD CD-27/30 at $399.75 for the 30″, GD CD-33/36 at $526.50 for the 36″, all on the accessories page — but they belong in the shallow top tier of a three-drawer bank, not in the only deep drawer you own. For plates, containers and utensils the three-drawer does more with the same 30″ of front. One two-drawer per kitchen, at the cooktop, is the usual count.
Writing a two-finish order
Both collections go on one order so the truck arrives once. Label each line with its wall — “range wall” or “island” — because a GD DB30-2 and its Timber twin are the same box in different paint and are easy to swap at the shop.
The rest of the Dove side starts from the base cabinet lineup or the full collection; the island side from Timber or Indigo. The design service will draw the split with the cooktop spec in hand.
Common questions
- Can you mix cabinet colors with an off-white perimeter and a navy or wood island?
- Yes, and it is the pairing we design most in this finish: Dove uppers and perimeter over a Timber or Indigo island. The contrast makes the off-white read whiter, not warmer. The one pairing to avoid is Dove with Linen, which is close enough to look like a matching error.
- What size drawer base goes under a 36 inch cooktop?
- GD DB36-2, the 36″ two-drawer, at $1,017.25, centred under the cutout. A 30″ cooktop takes GD DB30-2 at $835.25. Send the cooktop model with the order — how far its body drops below the counter decides whether the top drawer stays a drawer.
- How much is a 30 inch pot and pan drawer cabinet in Fabuwood Dove?
- $835.25 as GD DB30-2, pre-assembled, with two dovetailed ⅝″ solid wood drawers on Blum full-extension soft-close runners. The 24″ is $724.75 and the 36″ is $1,017.25. Prices move; the product grid above this article is current.
- Do off-white cabinets look white next to a navy island?
- In person and in photographs, yes. A camera balances to the biggest neutral surface in the frame, and next to Indigo or Timber the wide drawer fronts of this cabinet are that surface, so the kitchen photographs as white with a dark island. Put a bright white refrigerator in the same frame and the fronts start to read cream.
- Will Dove cabinets look yellow next to a white stove?
- Not yellow — a touch warmer. Dove is in the white family, so the difference beside a white range is narrower than Linen’s but still visible at the seam. Stainless or black appliances remove it entirely; a door base between the range and the pot drawer hides most of it.
- Is the two-drawer base available in the island colour too?
- Check the island finish’s own collection page for the -2 base in the width you need; construction, drawers and runners are the same across the Galaxy line. Write the wall name on each line of the order so the two boxes are not swapped at the shop.
