Galaxy Dove single door bases beside the appliance: off-white next to white, stainless or panel-ready
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
Narrow bases hardly ever sit in the middle of a wall. They land at the edges — the 18 inches left over beside the dishwasher, the sliver between the range and a corner, the box that meets the refrigerator — so whatever stands next to them is usually an appliance, and the appliance is usually white or stainless. Galaxy Dove single door base cabinets are the 12″, 15″, 18″ and 21″ boxes for those positions, one door under one drawer, and this page is about the neighbour as much as the cabinet.
Do off-white cabinets look wrong next to white appliances?

Dove is Fabuwood’s signature off-white: a soft white with a gentle warm undertone that, on a full wall of doors, still counts as a white kitchen. The undertone only shows when a colder white sits directly against it, and the enamel on a white dishwasher or refrigerator is exactly that. So a 12″ box beside a white fridge will read a shade warmer than the appliance — the way cream trim reads beside a white ceiling — and the honest answer to the question in the heading is: subtle, not invisible. It is nothing like the beige-against-white step you get with Linen (the Linen versus Dove comparison shows both), but it is there.
Two things decide whether anyone notices. The first is light: in a bright or south-facing room the door reads as a clean warm white and the appliance simply looks a little cooler; in a dim or north-facing kitchen, or under 4000K cans, Dove drifts faintly grey and the white appliance looks brighter still. Run the room at 2700–3000K and the gap closes. The second is how much white appliance is showing. A dishwasher presents a full 24″ face at base-cabinet height, in the same plane as the door beside it; a refrigerator presents a wall.
The test costs $25. Tape a door sample to the appliance itself — not the wall above it — and photograph it at midday and again at night under the bulbs you will live with. If the two whites read as one in the photo, they will read as one in the listing photos when the house sells, which is the standard that matters for an off-white.
Which width goes where, and the part that meets the appliance
The catalog sells these by width — every box is 34½″ high and 24″ deep, with a dovetailed soft-close drawer over the door — but nobody plans by width. You plan by position, so the table runs that way: the spot in the kitchen, the width we usually draw there, and the finishing part between the cabinet and its neighbour. Prices are our displayed figures on the review date.
| Where it sits | Width we usually draw | Box · price | The part between box and neighbour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beside the dishwasher | 18″ | GD B18 · $409.50 | GD DWR6 dishwasher panel · $201.50, if the dishwasher ends the run |
| Between the range and a wall | 15″ | GD B15 · $377.00 | GD BF3 filler · $26.00 on the wall side so the door clears the return |
| Beside the refrigerator | 21″ | GD B21 · $432.25 | GD REP1296 refrigerator end panel · $224.25, 12″ × 96″, running the full height of the fridge |
| Ending a run into the room | 12″ | GD B12 · $364.00 | GD BEP base end panel · $149.50 on the exposed side |
The second column is a habit, not a rule: any of the four widths goes in any position, and the remainder on the wall usually chooses for you. Two edges to know before you draw. There is no 9″ box with a drawer — the narrowest cabinet in the line is a door-only full-height single — and at 24″ the plain B picks up a second door and moves to the double door page (the 24″ box itself, GD B24 at $471.25, is currently filed with the drawer banks).
What the dishwasher, the range and the fridge each ask of the box

- The dishwasher. Its door lies flat into the aisle, so the cabinet door beside it hinges on the far side. The 18″ box here is the one we fit with the GD CD-15/18 cutlery insert ($201.50) in the top drawer: the rack unloads straight into the drawer next to it. If the dishwasher ends the run, its exposed flank takes the GD DWR6 panel so the run ends in Dove, not appliance casing.
- The range. Heat and grease land on whichever door is nearest, so the hinge goes on the range side and the door opens away from the burners. Oils, sheet pans and boards live here, and the drawer keeps the everyday spatulas at hand height.
- The refrigerator. Its hinge decides the cabinet’s: if the fridge opens toward the box, the box opens away from the fridge. The cabinet flank is hidden by the appliance; what shows is the refrigerator panel on the fridge’s far side, ordered with the cabinet so the two arrive in the same batch of paint.
What goes through the door below is the same at every position: plates in the 12″, a single bin in the 15″ or 18″, mixing bowls in the 21″. The catalog’s standard trash pull-outs (GD TC15 BLUM $617.50, TC18 $734.50, TC21 $809.25) are built for a box that keeps its drawer; a roll-out tray on the cabinet floor, from $188.50 on the roll-out drawer page, is the cheaper add.
Keeping the run one white from toe kick to counter
Every visible piece around the box has to be the same off-white, or the appliance is not the only thing the eye compares it with. The toe kick (GD TK8, $55.90 for 8 feet), the filler at the wall, the end panel, the dishwasher panel: all of it comes from the decorative accessories in the same paint. A site-cut white filler beside a Dove door is a stripe.
The same logic runs upward. A soft grey-veined quartz on this finish is fine — Dove is the flexible one on counters — but the counter edge is the line the eye follows straight to the appliance, so on a wall with a white dishwasher a warm-white quartz makes the three surfaces read as a family and a stark white quartz makes the door the odd one out. The cabinet, counter and floor matching guide has the undertone test if the slab is still open.
Where to go if the neighbour is not an appliance
This page is the narrow box with a drawer. Sorted by what sits beside it or inside it, the rest of the base lineup is quick to find.
- A tall pull-out or a bin that needs the whole door face → the full-height single door bases, 9″ to 21″, no drawer.
- More than 21″ of clear wall with nothing between → the double door bases, or the full-height double for an island back.
- The position where you actually stand and cook → a three-drawer bank.
- A sink or a corner → the sink bases and the lazy Susans.
Everything else in the finish, toe kick to crown, is on the Galaxy Dove collection page.
Common questions
- Do off-white cabinets go with white appliances?
- Closely, but not perfectly. Dove reads white on its own; beside a white dishwasher or fridge it reads a shade warmer, the way cream trim does beside a white ceiling. Tape the $25 door sample on the appliance and photograph it under your own lights before deciding. Stainless or panel-ready appliances remove the question.
- What size base cabinet goes next to a dishwasher?
- Whatever the wall leaves you, but 18″ is the width we draw there most: GD B18 at $409.50, with the cutlery insert in its top drawer so the rack unloads straight into it. Hinge the door away from the dishwasher so the two never open into the same patch of floor.
- Do I need a panel between a base cabinet and the refrigerator?
- Not between them — the cabinet side is hidden by the fridge. The panel goes on the fridge’s exposed side: GD REP1296 is a 12″ × 96″ refrigerator end panel at $224.25 that runs the appliance’s full height in the same Dove.
- How much is a 15 inch base cabinet with a door and a drawer?
- GD B15 shows at $377.00 on our grid — a 34½″ × 24″ assembled box with one full-overlay door and a ⅝″ dovetailed drawer on Blum Tandem soft-close glides. The 12″ is $364.00, the 18″ $409.50 and the 21″ $432.25.
- Can a trash pull-out fit an 18 inch base cabinet that still has its drawer?
- Yes. GD TC18 BLUM at $734.50 is the standard-height unit sized for a box that keeps the top drawer; the TC18FHD version at the same price is for the drawerless box. Order the one that matches the front, and we confirm the pairing on the order.
