Galaxy Dove diagonal sink front cabinets: box or front, six questions — then the parts that must match
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
Two listings in this finish carry the word diagonal, and the cheaper one is not a cabinet. A Fabuwood Galaxy Dove diagonal sink front cabinet — GD DSF36, $149.50 — is an angled face frame with a Galaxy door hung in it, made to close a corner cavity that an installer builds on site; GD DSFL36 at $100.75 is the floor for that cavity, sold separately. Rather than list what is not in the carton, this page asks the questions that decide whether you should be buying a front at all, and then deals with the problem a site-built corner has in an off-white that it does not have in a bright one: every visible part has to be this colour, and this colour cannot be mixed on site.
Box or front: six questions before you order either
The complete corner cabinet and the front close the same 36″-on-each-wall opening with the same door in the same off-white. The choice between them is not about the corner's look; it is about what has to happen behind the door.
| Question | If yes | If no |
|---|---|---|
| Is the bowl too big for a factory 36″ corner box? | Front — the cavity can be as large as the two runs allow | Box: GD DSB36 or DSB36FD, $617.50 |
| Is there plumbing or framing in the corner that a fixed box will not clear? | Front — build around it | Box |
| Are both runs already set, with a corner left open between them? | Front — the only part that closes an existing gap | Box, set with the runs |
| Is there a carpenter on the job who builds cabinet cavities? | Front is practical | Box — a front with nobody to build behind it is a door leaning on a wall |
| Will the countertop be templated on site after the corner is closed? | Either | Box — a plan-templated slab and a site-built corner do not meet |
| Is the line-item price the reason? | Stop, and add the floor, fillers, toe kick, blocking and labour first | — |
A yes in the first four rows and a front is the right part. Anything less and the diagonal sink base one listing over is the cabinet you were looking for — same corner, same door, same off-white, arriving as a finished box.
Which parts of a site-built corner have to be Galaxy Dove

A factory corner box arrives with every visible surface in the finish. A site-built corner is assembled from catalog parts and site parts, and the line between the two is the whole discipline of the job. In a bright white kitchen a painter can get close to the door with a can from the hardware store. This is an off-white with a faint warm cast, and "close" is exactly the problem: a site-mixed white beside it reads as a different white, in daylight, at the spot the whole room looks at. So the rule is simple. Anything the room can see is ordered from the catalog in GD; anything the door hides can be whatever the installer has on the truck.
| Part | Seen from the room? | Order it as | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| The angled front | Yes — it is the door | GD DSF36, this page | $149.50 |
| The cavity floor | Only with the door open | GD DSFL36, this page, or a site-built deck | $100.75 |
| Toe kick across the angle | Yes, from everywhere | GD TK8, 8 ft, in this finish | $55.90 |
| Fillers at both walls | Yes | GD BF3 or GD BF6 | $26.00 / $43.55 |
| A flanking cabinet end, if it shows | Yes | GD BEP base end panel | $149.50 |
| Inside faces of the cavity | No | The flanking cabinets' natural veneer interior — leave it | — |
| Cleats and blocking | No | Site lumber | — |
| Countertop corner piece | Yes | The fabricator, site-templated after the front is in | Per slab |
Front, floor, an eight-foot toe kick and a pair of 3″ fillers come to $358.15 across this page and the accessory pages, against $617.50 for the box — before blocking, labour and any exposed end. Put every one of those catalog parts on the same purchase order as the runs; lead time runs a week to three, and a missing $26.00 filler stops a countertop template as surely as a missing cabinet does.
Why an off-white cannot be touched up on site
Every finish shows a bad patch; this one shows a good one. A bright white has no undertone to miss, so a careful touch-up disappears. Dove has a faint warm cast that reads as white until a whiter white sits beside it — and a site-mixed patch is that whiter white, or a yellower one. The places it goes wrong on a corner like this are always the same three: a raw ply edge where front and cabinet end meet, painted to "match"; a length of white toe kick under an off-white door because the yard had white; a filler from a different line. Each is a small stripe of the wrong white at the brightest point in the kitchen.
Factory touch-up for scuffs is a different matter and works fine — ask for it with the order. What does not work is building a visible part and painting it. Hidden parts are the opposite case: the cleats, the blocking and the inside of the cavity sit behind a closed door and can be raw. Our guide to fillers, scribe and end panels covers which part closes which gap, and the SKU guide separates DSF, DSFL and DSB — three parts a letter apart, and $468.00 apart at the extremes.
What arrives, and what the 36 means
A flat carton with an angled frame in it, and in the frame a Galaxy door — full overlay, solid wood around a ⅜″ MDF panel, swinging on Blumotion soft-close Blum hinges. The 36 measures nothing in the carton; it is the 36″ each wall gives up to the corner, the footprint the complete corner cabinet also uses, and the frame is angled to fit the gap those two runs leave. It closes a forty-five degree corner and nothing else; on a straight run it has no job.
Landed here wanting a cabinet?
Most people who find this listing were looking for the diagonal sink base — the same corner, delivered as a finished box with its own floor, for $617.50. On a straight wall the answer is a sink base starting at $386.75; for an apron-front sink it is the farm sink cabinet starting at $806.00, and the corner has no apron version. The rest of the kitchen is in the Dove collection, and a free 3D drawing will tell you which of the four sink listings your corner actually needs before any of them ships.
Common questions
- What is the difference between a diagonal sink front and a diagonal sink base?
- The base is a complete corner cabinet — sides, back, floor, frame and door — at $617.50. The front is the angled frame and door alone at $149.50, for a cavity built on site between the two cabinet runs. Same corner footprint, same door, same finish; $468.00 of box is the difference.
- Do I need the diagonal sink floor as well as the front?
- Unless the installer is building a deck from matching material, yes. GD DSFL36 at $100.75 gives the cavity a finished bottom to stand a bin or a filter on, and something for the toe kick to butt against. Have us check what the floor carton actually contains before it leaves; the listing is a single line.
- Can you paint site-built parts to match Fabuwood Dove?
- Not reliably. It is an off-white with a faint warm undertone, and a site-mixed white beside it reads as a different white in daylight. Order every visible part — front, toe kick, fillers, any exposed end — in the finish, and keep site-painted material to the parts the door hides.
- How much does a site-built corner sink cost compared with the corner cabinet?
- Front, floor, an eight-foot toe kick and two 3″ fillers come to $358.15 against $617.50 for the finished box. Add blocking, an exposed end panel at $149.50 if one shows, and the carpenter's time, and the saving is usually gone. Build the corner for a sink or a corner the box cannot handle, not to save money.
- What does the 36 in DSF36 mean?
- Nothing in the carton measures 36″. The number is what each wall gives up to the corner — the footprint the complete corner cabinet also uses — and the frame is angled to fit the gap those two runs leave. It only fits a forty-five degree corner.
- Does the diagonal sink front come with hinges and a door?
- Yes. The door is a Galaxy shaker in full overlay, solid wood around a ⅜″ MDF panel, swinging on Blumotion soft-close Blum hinges in the angled frame, in the same off-white as the rest of the kitchen. What it does not come with is anything behind it.
