Galaxy Dove sink base cabinets on the window wall: the run an off-white is judged on

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

The sink wall takes more daylight than any other run in the kitchen, and it is where a Fabuwood Galaxy Dove sink base cabinet earns the finish its reputation: warm enough not to look clinical, still white when the sun is on it. Ten widths from 21″ to 42″, at $386.75 to $572.00, on the line's usual base footprint of 34½″ high by 24″ deep — but the decisions on this page are less about the box than about what it stands under and beside: the window, the light, the dishwasher, and the pulls on a drawer front that never opens.

The brightest wall in the kitchen, and what it does to an off-white

A warm cream shaker sink run beside a window compared with a cool bright white one
The warm side and the cool side of white on the same sink wall. This finish sits between the two, closer to the left — and the window is where you find out which way it leans.

Every other run in the kitchen is lit sideways. The sink run faces the glass, so its doors are the first thing daylight lands on and the first to change as the day moves. That matters more for this finish than for a bright white, because it is an off-white with a faint warm cast: in a south-facing or well-lit room it reads as a clean warm white from breakfast to dinner, and in a north-facing or dim room it can slide a shade towards grey by late afternoon. Neither is a fault; it is simply the wall you will judge the finish on, so it is the wall to test it on.

How the sink run reads through a day, and what to change
Light on the sink wallHow the door readsWhat to do

Evening, pendants and strips onThe warmth shows; the run reads a touch creamier than at noonOne colour temperature for every light in the kitchen, or the sink wall looks like a different paint

The test costs $25.00: a door sample propped on the sink wall against the counter sample, seen at breakfast and again at dinner. The Linen versus Dove comparison shows the half-step further into beige that this finish stops short of — the reason it stays in the white family on a north wall where a true beige reads as a colour.

What size sink base for the window? Centre the box, then check the bowl

The sink goes under the window, and the eye wants it centred there. In practice the cabinet is chosen twice — once by the window, once by the bowl — and the wider answer wins. Start with the window: measure trim to trim, then pick the base whose centre line can sit on the window's centre line with the flanking cabinets landing on standard widths.

Then the bowl. The trade allowance is roughly three inches over the sink's outside width — the stiles of the face frame and the sink's clips eat the difference — so a 33″ single bowl wants the 36″ box and a 30″ bowl the 33″. When the window says 30″ and the bowl says 33″, the bowl wins: the sink sits a little off centre, or the bowl gets smaller, and nobody notices a 30″ bowl. Bathrooms are a different footprint — see the vanities instead.

The drawer band across the sink, and where the black pulls go

Look at a finished run from the doorway and the strongest line on it is the band of top drawers running the length of the counter. The sink base keeps that band going with a false front — a five-piece panel that matches the drawer heads on either side and does not open, because the bowl and its trap sit directly behind it. On the 33″ and 36″ boxes that panel comes split in two or as one piece: the SDF versions, GD SB33SDF and GD SB36SDF, cost exactly what the split ones cost. Pick by the neighbour — a single wide top drawer on a three-drawer base wants a single false front beside it; paired doors want the split.

Then decide whether the false front gets pulls. We say yes, every time, and on this finish the choice of pull is where Dove parts company with the other warm neutrals. Brass and bronze are the safe answers on any warm white. Matte black is the one this off-white can carry and a true beige cannot, and the false front at the sink is where black hardware is most visible in the whole room: eye height, window light, dead centre of the run. Order the dummy pulls with the rest of the hardware so the band reads as one line; a gap at the sink is the first thing a guest's eye snags on. A tilt-out tray behind the panel changes nothing from the room.

Dishwasher on one side, bin on the other

A sink base almost never stands alone. The dishwasher takes one side of it and the other side is where the bin wants to be, and both decisions are drilled into the box: the dishwasher's drain hose and supply come through the side panel nearest it, and the disposal hangs under the bowl on that same side so the hose has a short run. That leaves the far side of the bay for a pull-out bin, a filter or a tray — and it is why a 30″ box with a disposal in it feels full and a 36″ box does not.

The dishwasher is also the one appliance standing in the sink run at door height, judged against the doors either side of it. On this finish that comparison is milder than beside a beige, but it is not nothing.

What sits beside the sink base, and how it reads against an off-white door
The dishwasher frontBeside the doorVerdict
StainlessNeutral; neither warmer nor whiter than the doorThe default. Nothing to manage
White applianceA brighter, cooler white a step from the door — a subtle gap, not an invisible oneFine in a bright room; in a dim one the door reads warmer beside it. Sample first
Panel-ready, with a matching door panelThe run does not break at allWhat the two-tone and photography crowd want; price the panel into the order
BlackA deliberate block, the same logic as black pullsWorks on this finish; pair it with black hardware on the false front

If the dishwasher's end shows, the decorative accessories page lists a dishwasher panel, GD DWR6 at $201.50; ask us which panel your model needs, so the run ends in this colour and not in the appliance's flank.

A drip behind an off-white door: the timeline, and the one-box fix

Exploded diagram of a base cabinet with the expected lifespan of the box, door, finish, drawer and hardware
Every component here outlives the deck under a leaking trap. The cabinet is not the weak point; the fitting above it is.

The warranty is a limited lifetime one and the box under it is ½″ veneered plywood, veneered inside; a fitting that weeps a drop an hour beats both. No other cabinet in the kitchen has water running through it, and no other one is opened for the bin and shut again without a look.

What a slow drip does, in order:

  • Week one: a dark ring on the deck under the trap, the size of a coaster. Wipe it and it is back tomorrow.
  • Month three: the veneer at the back edge lifts, and the deck feels soft where it meets the side panel.
  • Year one: the swelling has reached the toe kick and the floor under the cabinet, and the door has started to rub because the box is no longer square.

Catch it at week one. A pale drip tray on the deck shows a ring the veneer hides, and a battery leak alarm under the trap costs less than a takeaway and is louder than any of us. If it does reach year one, the repair is one GD SB box rather than a run, on a lead time of a week to three. Our piece on how long cabinets last puts the deck under the sink at the top of the failure list; the care guide has the wipe-down for a painted door in the wettest spot in the house.

When the sink base is the wrong listing

This page covers a bowl dropped into or hung under a counter on a straight wall, which is most sinks. An apron-front sink needs a box with the front dropped to expose it — the farm sink cabinet, $806.00 to $825.50 — because the false front described above is exactly what an apron replaces. A bowl in the corner is the diagonal sink base at $617.50, a complete cabinet set at forty-five degrees, or the diagonal sink front at $149.50 plus a $100.75 floor for a cavity built on site. And if this off-white perimeter is getting a coloured island, the sink sometimes moves into the island, in which case it is the island finish's sink base you want, not this one; a free 3D layout settles where the water goes. The run continues under base cabinets; the room continues in the Dove collection.

Common questions

What size sink base cabinet goes under a 36 inch window?
GD SB36, at $490.75, centres cleanly under a window that measures 33″ to 36″ trim to trim, and its box takes a 33″ single bowl with room for the clips. A bigger bowl pushes the base to 39″ or 42″ and the sink sits a little off the window's centre; a smaller bowl still centres and simply has more room inside.
Do you put handles on a false drawer front?
Yes. The false front at the sink is the middle of the drawer band, and a missing pull there is more visible than anywhere else on the run. Order dummy pulls in the same style, and on this off-white either brass or matte black works — black is the one this finish can carry that a true beige cannot.
Does a white dishwasher look wrong next to off-white cabinets?
Not wrong, but you will see it: a white appliance is a brighter, cooler white than this door, so the two read as two whites side by side. The gap is smaller than it would be beside a beige and it shrinks in a bright room. Stainless is neutral, and a panel-ready dishwasher with a matching door removes the question.
What colour temperature of under-cabinet lighting for warm white cabinets?
2700–3000K. Cooler strips at 4000K and above push this off-white towards grey and make the counter look harder than it is. Use one temperature for every strip and pendant on the sink wall so the run reads as one paint at night.
Can you put grey quartz with off-white cabinets?
With this one, yes. Dove takes white quartz, warm-white quartz and soft grey veining without going muddy, which is the pairing a beige cannot make. The sink wall is where door and counter meet in the most light, so test the counter sample against a door sample there before either is cut.
How much is a Fabuwood Galaxy Dove sink base, and does it come assembled?
From $386.75 (21″) up to $572.00 (42″), with the 30″ at $461.50, the 33″ at $468.00 and the 36″ at $490.75. Every width arrives built, hinges on — Blum soft-close, on the same ½″ veneered plywood box as the rest of the line — with a lead time of a week to three.
