Four stacked fronts beside the range: the Galaxy Linen 4 drawer base cabinet as a matched pair

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

The place we draw this cabinet most often is either side of the range, as a pair. A Galaxy Linen 4 drawer base cabinet is made in 15″, 18″ and 21″ only, which happens to be the range of widths a range leaves over, and two of them flanking a 30″ appliance turn the busiest six feet of a kitchen into eight shallow drawers at arm’s reach.

What size cabinets go on either side of a 30-inch range?

Three SKUs from Fabuwood: GL DB15-4 at $780.00, GL DB18-4 at $799.50 and GL DB21-4 at $832.00. The price steps between them are $19.50 and $32.50, which is small enough that the wall, not the budget, should decide the width. Leave the range bay at whatever its install sheet asks for — a freestanding 30″ range normally wants a 30″ opening — and see what the flanks add up to.

Range plus a matched pair, list prices in this finish
RangePairTotal runPair price
30″GL DB15-4 × 260″$1,560.00
30″GL DB18-4 × 266″$1,599.00
30″GL DB21-4 × 272″$1,664.00
36″GL DB18-4 × 272″$1,599.00
36″GL DB21-4 × 278″$1,664.00

The 72″ rows come up constantly, because six feet is a common wall segment between a window and a corner: a 30″ range takes the 21″ pair, a 36″ range the 18″ pair — the 18 inch four-drawer base, the middle of the three sizes at $799.50 each — within $65 of each other and no filler either way.

Buy the widest pair the wall allows. Going down a size to save $20 or $33 leaves 3″ of wall on each side of the range, and that becomes a filler strip, and a filler beside an appliance is the least useful six inches in the room. If the leftover is 24″ or more on one side, that side should be a three-drawer bank instead — it holds more per dollar — and the pair becomes a mismatched pair, which is fine.

What four beige fronts do under the wrong bulb

The recessed centre panel throws a shadow line under every rail — four rails high on this cabinet.

A four-drawer bank is four five-piece fronts — solid wood frames around recessed ⅜″ MDF panels — stacked in 30″ of height: more rail and stile per square foot than anywhere else in the kitchen, and every top rail casts a small shadow into the panel below it. On a white door those shadows read as crisp lines. On a beige shaker door they read as tone, and the tone changes with the bulb.

Under warm light, 2700–3000K, the shadows soften and the beige holds its cream. Under a 4000K or cooler under-cabinet strip — which sits directly above this cabinet, closer than any other fixture — the shadows sharpen, the warmth drops out, and the four fronts flatten toward gray while the rest of the run, further from the strip, stays warm. The cabinet beside the range is where a mismatched bulb shows first.

The range hood adds a second light source. Many hoods ship with a cool-white lamp, and it falls on exactly this pair. If the hood lamp cannot be swapped for a warm one, expect the flanking cabinets to read a shade cooler than the run with the hood on. That is a reason to run the under-cabinet LED warm on purpose, so the two sources at least agree.

The appliance in the middle matters too. Against stainless the pair reads as a calm beige; against a white range it reads as decidedly beige, because the contrast makes the colour declare itself. Choose that rather than discover it — the Linen against Dove comparison is the read if you want a quieter flank beside a white appliance.

The spice drawer cabinet beside the stove: eight drawers, assigned

Each front is roughly 7½″ tall, which leaves something like 4″ to 5″ of open height inside — our measurement, not a published figure. Inside width lands near 10″ in the 15″ box, 13″ in the 18″ and 16″ in the 21″. A pair gives you eight drawers of the same shallow height, so the question is not what fits in a narrow drawer base but how to divide the cooking zone between them.

  • Top tier, both sides: spices on the cook’s side, measuring tools and thermometers on the other. Jars around 4″ tall stand upright and read from above.
  • Second tier: cooking utensils beside the range hand, pot holders and towels on the far side. Two shallow utensil drawers sort better than one deep one.
  • Third tier: foil, wrap and parchment boxes. A 12″ roll box lies side to side from the 18″ up; in the 15″ it runs front to back.
  • Bottom tier: flat things — cooling racks, small cutting boards, the half-sheet pan that only lies flat in the 21″. Nothing heavy this low in a drawer this shallow.

What does not go in any of the eight: oil and vinegar bottles, tall spice mills, anything over about 4½″ standing. A 15″ base pull-out exists in this finish (GLN UKBPO-B15 BLUM, $1,433.25) but that is a lot of money for bottles; a narrow single door base with a shelf is what we usually draw instead.

Drawer inserts for the 15, 18 and 21 inch boxes

The top drawer is the one worth fitting; the other three are already sorted by being shallow.

This finish carries trays down to the narrowest box. GLN CD-15/18 ($201.50) is a cutlery tray sized for the 15″ and 18″ units; GLN DCD-15 BLUM ($354.25) is a second shallow drawer with its own Blum runners built into the top tier of the 15″. The 18″ has GL KCUP-18 ($224.25), GL DCD-18 BLUM ($429.00) and the CD-15/18 tray. The 21″ takes GL KCUP-21/24 ($266.50), GLN CD-21/24 ($273.00) and GLN DCD-21 BLUM ($468.00). The GLN prefix marks a loose part; the paint is the same.

Fit the top drawer of each cabinet in the pair and leave the rest bare. Four inches of height is already the organiser; a tray in every tier costs more than the drawers save. The full list is on the cabinet accessories page.

When the flank should not be four drawers

The sink is the usual reason. If the range shares a wall with the sink, one flank is a sink base and the pair becomes a single four-drawer on the other side — still worth it, and the sink base page sets the widths on that side.

Width is the second reason. Under 15″ of leftover, nothing on this page fits; take the filler or a 12″ door box and put the money into the other flank. Over 24″, a three-drawer bank holds more for less. The four-drawer earns its runners in the 15″-to-21″ band and nowhere else, and our fillers and end panels guide covers how to close the gap when the wall does not cooperate.

Heat is not a reason. Ranges are built to sit against cabinetry on both sides — the install sheet states the side clearance, usually zero — and the drawers nearest the oven wall are fine for tools. Keep the chocolate somewhere else.

Ordering the pair

Put both cabinets on one order so they leave the factory together. Galaxy ships assembled in 7 days to 3 weeks with runners set and fronts aligned, and two units from the same run match each other across the range — on the two cabinets that sit closest together, that is the alignment people notice.

Order the door sample at the same time if you have not already, and do the after-dark test above before the order is confirmed. The rest of the run starts from the base cabinet lineup or the full Linen collection, and the design service will draw the elevation with the range model in hand.

Common questions

What widths does a four-drawer base cabinet come in?
15″, 18″ and 21″ — GL DB15-4, GL DB18-4 and GL DB21-4, all 34½″ high and 24″ deep. Nothing wider is made in this configuration; from 24″ up the drawer banks are two- or three-drawer units.
How wide is a 30-inch range with a four-drawer base on each side?
60″ with the 15″ pair, 66″ with the 18″ pair, 72″ with the 21″ pair. A 36″ range with 18″ flanks is also 72″. Leave the range bay at the width its install sheet specifies and let the flanks fill the rest of the wall.
How much does a four-drawer base cabinet cost?
$780.00 for the 15″, $799.50 for the 18″ and $832.00 for the 21″ — so $1,560.00, $1,599.00 or $1,664.00 for a matched pair. The steps are small enough that the wall width should decide, not the price. Prices move; the grid above is current.
What is the best cabinet next to the stove for spices and utensils?
A four-drawer base, and ideally one on each side. The top tier has about 4″ of clear height, which stands most spice jars upright where you can read the lids from above, and the second tier takes the spatulas and tongs the range hand reaches for. A door base beside a range hides the same things behind a shelf you have to crouch to.
Do drawer inserts fit the 15-inch four-drawer base?
Yes, in this finish. GLN CD-15/18 is a cutlery tray for the 15″ and 18″ boxes at $201.50, and GLN DCD-15 BLUM is a hardware-mounted inner drawer for the 15″ at $354.25. Fit the top drawer only; the other three are shallow enough already.
Does under-cabinet lighting change how beige cabinets look?
More than any other fixture, because it is closest. A 4000K or cooler strip flattens this beige toward gray on the fronts directly below it, while a 2700–3000K strip keeps it creamy. Check the range hood lamp too — many ship cool-white and light exactly this pair.
