Galaxy Linen Corner Base Cabinets

The arithmetic fits on the back of the quote. Every one of these boxes is the standard 34½″ high and 24″ deep; only the width moves, and the width is the number that gets hidden. The first cabinet on the perpendicular wall is also 24″ deep, and it stands directly in front of the blind end of this box; whatever it stands in front of, you will never see again. Pull the blind box off the corner by the 3″ its second number allows, and the neighbor covers 21″ of face instead of 24″. Subtract that from the box width and you have the face still showing — door, drawer and the frame around them.

Treat that as geometry rather than a spec sheet. The actual door and drawer-front widths come from Fabuwood’s specification book, and if the box is set tight at the first number instead of pulled to the second, subtract another 3″ from the face column. What the ledger makes plain is that a 36 inch blind corner cabinet hides more than half of its width; only the 48 shows more of itself than it hides. All four carry one door with one drawer over it.

The failure with these boxes is never the cabinet. It is that people load the hidden end with things they need on a Tuesday. Decide now that everything past the door opening is long-term storage, and the box swallows the large, awkward objects a 24″ base cannot: the roasting pan that comes out at Thanksgiving, the stockpot, the slow cooker, the ice-cream maker, the punch bowl, the platters that only see a party.

Put those on a low tray or a shallow bin with a handle, so one pull drags the whole collection into the light. The drawer up top is the opposite: the most reachable storage in the corner, for foil, wrap, bags and whatever you touch daily. The shelf directly behind the door takes the weekly items. Three zones, three frequencies, and nobody kneels on the floor with a flashlight.

The mechanical answer to the covered end is a blind corner pull-out: an articulated set of trays that slides forward and then swings the rear section out from behind the neighbor. In this finish the site lists them handed left and right for the two larger boxes only — GLN BPO-BLB42/45 at $1,277.25 and GLN BPO-BLB48/51 at $1,394.25. No pull-out is listed for the 36/39 or 39/42, so if you know you want the mechanism, the size decision is made for you.

Blind corner cabinet versus lazy Susan is the comparison most buyers are really making, and the sum settles it. A BLB42/45 with its pull-out is $2,044.25. A rotating corner unit at 36″ is $1,095.25, with nothing hidden and nothing to add. The pull-out route costs almost twice as much and still leaves a 24″-deep box behind a fixed neighbor. It makes sense in one situation: the plan cannot give up 9″ to 12″ of wall on each leg for a square corner box, and the corner still has to hold daily items. In a big kitchen, spend the wall instead.

A blind box pulled off the corner leaves a gap between its face and the neighbor, closed with a filler strip ripped to width on site. That strip sits at the exact point where two runs meet, and in a beige shaker run it is where a substitution shows: Linen reads as beige next to anything white, so a white or off-white filler in this corner reads as a mistake from the doorway. The part is GL BF3, the 3″ base filler at $26.00, and at that price ordering one per inside corner should be automatic.

The toe kick has the same problem an inch off the floor. The recess runs continuously under both legs of the corner, so the toe-kick stock — GL TK8, $55.90 for an 8-foot length — has to turn the inside corner with a miter, and it has to be the same paint batch as the doors above it. A beige that was sprayed on a different day can be a shade off, and at a corner where two pieces meet on the miter that difference is visible.

Start with the two largest, because they share a price. The 42/45 and the 48/51 are both $767.00, so if the long wall has 6″ more to give, the 48 is 6″ of extra box — and 6″ more visible face — for nothing. The 36/39 is the budget answer at $614.25 and the one with the least door to show; the 39/42 splits the difference at $685.75. As corner base cabinet prices go, all four sit below the square boxes, which is the whole reason the blind box exists.

Then use the pull. The second number on each label is the widest the box may be installed once it is drawn off the corner and the gap is filled. That 3″ of travel also absorbs the odd remainder when a wall does not divide into 3″ cabinet steps — at the corner, where a wider filler is expected, rather than at the end of the run. Finally, be honest about where Fabuwood’s blind corner loses to the two square boxes in the same beige. Three checks, in the order they decide it:

• Can both legs spare 33″ or 36″ measured from the inside corner? If yes, the easy reach box shows you every shelf through a 45° door for $838.50 to $848.25, and a blind box only wins on price.
• Will the corner hold cookware you use most weeks? If yes, the lazy Susan brings it to the door for $1,030.25 to $1,095.25, and the blind box will cost you a kneel every time.
• Is the corner for the roasting pan, the punch bowl and the stockpot, and is the plan tight? Then buy the blind box, load the covered end once a year, and put the saving toward the drawers you open daily.
