Galaxy Linen Double Door Base Cabinets

Drawer banks take the working positions in a good plan — either side of the range, next to the sink. What is left is a set of long, low stretches where a wide door box is the right tool, and each one asks something slightly different of it.

1. Under a drop-in cooktop. A 30″ top usually sits over GL B30 and a 36″ over GL B36, but the cutout drawing decides it and the drawers may not survive; the last section on this page works through both.
2. Under a window, where the sink is somewhere else. A long sill wall with nothing under it is the one place the 42″ and 48″ boxes make sense — one cabinet, one pair of doors, and a top drawer that runs the width.
3. The island’s working side. A GL B36 between a sink base and a drawer bank gives the island its bulk storage — the full-height two-door version does the same with no drawer at all.
4. The gap between the refrigerator and the range. Usually 33″ to 39″, usually the cabinet you cook out of, so the top drawers matter most here: they are the utensil drawers nearest the burners.

Each door is close to half the box width — a shade under, because the full-overlay door stops short of the cabinet edge — and that number decides more layouts than the price does. Both are here.

Two notes on the edges of that table. GL B24 ($471.25) is the first two-door width, and at the moment it is sorted onto the three-drawer page rather than here. And above 39″ the drawer is the only configuration Fabuwood builds; a 42″ or 48″ cabinet drawn with two tall doors and nothing else needs redrawing now, not at order time. A wide box does not need a wide aisle to sit in; it needs one to open in. Door swing clearance is the number nobody puts on the plan, so the table takes each door at roughly half the box and shows what is left to stand in with one door open, across three common aisles.

Our working minimum is 18″ of standing room with a door open. In a 36″ aisle that rules out anything wider than 36″, and across a galley, where the cabinet opposite has a door too, subtract that door as well. GL B33SDF and GL B36SDF carry one continuous drawer front across the top instead of two fronts split over the doors, at the same price as the standard box — $633.75 and $676.00. Whether to take it is a question about seams.

On a bright white door every gap between parts reads as a dark line, so a vertical seam splitting the drawer tier of a 36″ box shows from the doorway and the single front earns its place. Linen is a light beige with warm, slightly greige undertones, and the shadow inside a gap sits much closer to the face color than it does on white. The seam is quieter. That makes the SDF a decision about the run rather than the box: take it where the drawer tier lines up with drawer banks on either side, so one long horizontal reads across the stretch; skip it where the box sits alone or beside a sink base.

The question we get asked most about this finish is which countertop to put on it, and the drawer tier is where the answer gets judged. It is the band of paint directly under the countertop edge, and a cool gray quartz pushes a beige under it toward muddy. This finish wants warmth returned from the top — cream quartz, butcher block, a stone with beige movement — and brass or bronze pulls over matte black. Match the cabinet to the cutout, not to the nominal size. A 30″ cooktop is usually cut into a 30″ base — GL B30 at $555.75 — but the appliance maker’s cutout drawing is the document that decides it. Some 30″ tops want the counter cut so close to the cabinet sides that a 33″ box is the safer answer, and it buys a few inches of landing space either side of the burners into the bargain. A 36″ top goes over GL B36 at $676.00, or over GL B39 when the same argument applies.

Then the drawers. Every box on this page has a drawer tier across the top, and a cooktop body hangs down into exactly that tier. Whether the drawers stay working, lose depth, or become fixed false fronts depends on the below-counter depth printed on the appliance spec sheet, so pull that figure before ordering and tell us if the fronts are to be fixed. The doors are unaffected; the cupboard is where the pans live either way. A downdraft vent or a wall oven under the cooktop is a different cabinet altogether, and a conversation to have with our design service before the box list is final.

Two neighbours to consider. If the cooktop is going into an island, the full-height two-door box does the same job with no drawer tier to fight over. And the position beside the cooktop, where you actually stand, is better served by a three-drawer bank than by a second door box.
