Galaxy Linen drawer bench seat cabinets, priced per seat
Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets
A Galaxy Linen drawer bench seat cabinet costs $338.00 at 24″ wide, $383.50 at 30″ and $425.75 at 36″ — GL DBS24, DBS30 and DBS36 — and whether the plan calls it a banquette, a breakfast nook or a window seat with a drawer, the way to judge those numbers is by the seat, not the box. Allow roughly 24″ of bench per adult: the 24″ box is one seat, the 36″ is a seat and a half, and two 36s make a nook that seats three without a chair.
What each width seats, stores and costs per inch

| Box | Height | Adults it seats | Drawers | Displayed price | Cost per inch of bench |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GL DBS24 | 16⅜″ | One | 1 | $338.00 | $14.08 |
| GL DBS30 | 16⅜″ | One, with elbow room | 1 | $383.50 | $12.78 |
| GL DBS36 | 16⅜″ | One and a half, or two children | 1 | $425.75 | $11.83 |
The widest box is the cheapest bench per inch, so build a run from 36s and use a 24 or a 30 only to make the length. A 72″ nook is two 36s for $851.50 and seats three adults; a 96″ window wall is two 36s and a 24 for $1,189.50 — a built-in bench with drawers for less than most freestanding banquettes, in the same paint as the kitchen. The widths step in 6″ rather than the 3″ the rest of the base line uses, so a remainder against the wall is normal — cover it with a scribe strip at the end, not with a gap in the middle.
How tall should a kitchen bench seat be? Work it back from the table
Start at the top, not the floor. A standard dining table is about 30″ high and wants the seat 11″ to 12″ below it, so the finished seat — cushion compressed, someone sitting on it — should land at 18″ to 19″. The box is 16⅜″ high with an open top. That leaves you about 2″ for everything you add: a ¾″ plywood or hardwood seat panel and a firm cushion that squashes to a little over an inch. A thick, soft cushion is the mistake here; it looks generous in the shop and puts knees against the table underside at dinner.
Depth is the other number. The product page lists width and height only; plan on the standard 24″ base depth and confirm it against the spec sheet before the cushions are made. A 24″-deep seat is deeper than a bench wants, so a back cushion or a padded panel is part of the design, not an afterthought — it brings the seat depth into the 18″ to 20″ range people actually sit in. Under a window the same box works as a window seat; check the sill height against the finished seat before assuming the cushion clears it.
One planning detail that ends up on every site: the box sits against a wall that has baseboard on it. Either the trim is cut out behind the bench or the box is scribed around it, and the decision has to be made before the carpenter starts. Our kitchen dimensions guide has the table and seat numbers in one place.
The drawer underneath
Each box has one drawer: a ⅝″ solid wood dovetailed box on Blum Tandem plus Blumotion full-extension glides, the same drawer that goes in the kitchen bases. It is shallow by the nature of the cabinet and suits linens, placemats, board games, gloves and the paperwork that otherwise lives on the table. Two things to get right: the seat panel must overhang the drawer front enough that the front clears it when the drawer opens, and the cushion must stop short of that edge rather than hanging over it, or the drawer becomes a thing you lift the cushion to use — which is to say a thing you stop using.
If a corner banquette is the plan, accept that the two runs meeting in the corner leave one box that cannot open into the other. Treat that spot as a fixed panel with the seat continuing over it. The dovetail drawer guide covers why the drawer under a seat gets the same construction as the drawers in the kitchen.
The carcass-only version, for a built-up front
The site also lists each size as a carcass-only loose part — GLN DBS24-BO at $217.75, GLN DBS30-BO at $247.00 and GLN DBS36-BO at $273.00 under loose parts. The intent is a bench whose front will be paneled, upholstered or beadboarded on site to match a room rather than the kitchen, using the Fabuwood box for its drawer hardware and squareness. Confirm exactly what ships in the carcass-only version before you order it; it is not the box you want if the drawer front is meant to match the kitchen doors. The full box is described on the Linen collection page alongside the rest of the line.
Common questions
- How many people does a kitchen bench seat cabinet seat?
- Allow about 24″ per adult. The 24″ box seats one, the 30″ seats one with elbow room, and the 36″ seats one and a half — or two children. Two 36s in a row seat three adults.
- How tall should a kitchen bench seat be?
- Aim for 18″ to 19″ with someone sitting on it, which is 11″ to 12″ under a 30″ table. The box is 16⅜″, so the seat panel and compressed cushion together should add about 2″. Keep the cushion firm.
- How much does a drawer bench seat cabinet cost, and which size is the best value?
- $338.00, $383.50 and $425.75 for the 24″, 30″ and 36″. The 36″ is the best value at $11.83 per inch of bench against $14.08 for the 24″, so build the run from 36s and use the smaller boxes only to make up the length.
- How deep is the drawer bench seat?
- The product page lists width and height only. Plan on the standard 24″ base depth, confirm it on the spec sheet, and design a back cushion so the sitting depth comes down to 18″ to 20″.
- Can I use these as a window seat with a drawer?
- Yes — the box is the same whether it sits under a window or along a nook wall. Check the sill height against a finished seat of 18″ to 19″ so the cushion clears the window trim, and plan the baseboard cut-out behind it either way.
- What is the carcass-only bench seat?
- The same box sold as a loose part without the finished front — $217.75 to $273.00 depending on width — for a bench that gets a site-built or upholstered face. Confirm what ships before ordering.
