The part that gets ordered late: timing a Galaxy Horizon corner post so it matches the run

Reviewed September 2026 · Captivating Cabinets

Prices quoted in this article were read off the grid on the review date; the live price grid on this page governs.

Of all the parts in a kitchen order, the corner post is the one most often added on installation day. The outside corner was there on the drawing, but nobody decided what would cover it until the cabinets were standing and the raw joint was plainly visible. On a painted kitchen, a part ordered six weeks late is a small inconvenience. On a Galaxy Horizon kitchen it is a matching question, because a stained piece from a later run is not guaranteed to be the same tone as the cabinets beside it. This page is about avoiding that, and about what to do if the kitchen is already in.

One part, and one moment to order it

The page carries a single item: GH CP36, a 36-inch corner post, at $312.00. It covers the outside corner where two runs of base cabinets meet at a right angle and both sides of the joint are on show: the end of an L-shaped peninsula, the corner of an island, a run that turns back into the room.

The best moment to order it is the same moment as the cabinets. The worst is after they arrive. Everything else on this page follows from that.

Why corners get discovered on site

Elevations are drawn wall by wall, and an outside corner belongs to no wall. It shows up on the plan as the meeting point of two lines, and unless someone asks what finishes it, the order goes out with the cabinets and nothing for the corner. Then the installer sets the boxes, looks at two raw cabinet sides meeting at a right angle, and phones for a part.

The fix is dull: count the outside corners on the plan before anything is ordered. Every island has four, a peninsula has at least two, and any run that turns away from a wall has one. For each corner, write down what covers it. If the answer is a corner post, it goes on the first order with the doors.

A stained part from a later run

Cabinet door samples in white, cream, grey, navy and stained oak laid on a marble countertop beside a window
Mixed door samples, none of them this collection. A stained sample is only useful when it is compared in the room, beside the real cabinets.

Fabuwood is candid about this in its own documents. Its spec book says colour variation is normal on stained finishes, because each is wood and the finishing process is complex. Its warranty says replacement cabinets may not match display samples or cabinets already installed. Neither statement is a defect clause; both describe how stains behave. The practical meaning for a corner post is plain: a post ordered with the kitchen arrives with the cabinets it will stand beside, and can be checked against them before anything is fixed; a post ordered weeks later comes from a later run and meets a kitchen that is already finished.

How much that shows depends on the part more than on the stain, which leads to the most useful point on this page. The wider the late part, the more stained surface it puts next to the run, and the more any difference in tone is on view. The face of a corner post, on a corner people walk past every day, is a large surface. A thin strip of molding is a small one.

If the kitchen is already in: three fall-backs, narrowest first

If the corner post was not on the first order, there are three ways to finish the corner, and ranking them by how much new stained surface each adds is more useful here than ranking them by price.

Late options for an outside corner, displayed prices on 2026-09-28, ranked by how much new stained face they add
OptionSKUPriceNew stained surface on view
Outside corner molding, 8 ftGH OCM8$62.40A narrow strip on the edge; the least surface to match
Outside corner molding, 1¼″, 8 ftGH OCM8-1 1/4"$78.00A slightly wider strip; still mostly edge
Base cabinet end skinGH SK BASE$62.40A full side face; covers a raw end, not the joint itself
Corner post, 36″GH CP36$312.00A broad face on both sides of the corner

Read that as advice, not a rule. A corner post ordered late may match perfectly; the only way to know is to look. But if you are adding a part after the kitchen is installed and the corner sits under strong window light, a narrow molding is less exposed than a broad post. An 8-foot length of either molding also covers more than one corner, which helps if you found several at once.

The end skin is on the list because it is often needed at the same time: where the corner joint is covered but one box side is still raw, the skin finishes that side. How skins, panels and moldings divide the job is in end panels, scribe molding and fillers explained.

Checking a late part before it goes on

When a late corner part arrives, do not fix it straight away. Hold it against the corner in daylight, then again in the evening with the kitchen lights on. The colour on this collection shifts with the light: homeowners describe it as cooler and a little dull on an overcast day and warmer in sun, so a comparison made at one hour only tells half the story.

If the difference is slight, it will likely stop being noticeable once the part is in, because a corner is seen at an angle, not face on beside a door. If it is obvious, call us before fitting; a fitted part is harder to deal with than a boxed one. Our number is (609) 900-3358.

Pricing every corner on the first order

The reason corners get left off is often money rather than oversight: a post on every outside corner of an island is four parts at $312.00, or $1,248.00, and that number looks large on a quote. It does not have to be all or nothing. The corners seen from the rest of the house get the post; the ones on the working side, beside the dishwasher or facing the range, get outside corner molding, and one 8-foot length of GH OCM8 at $62.40 is long enough to cover two base-height corners.

  • Four posts on an island: $1,248.00.
  • Two posts on the room side, molding on the two working corners: $624.00 plus $62.40, or $686.40.
  • A peninsula with posts on both exposed corners: $624.00.
  • Molding on every corner of an island: two 8-foot lengths, $124.80.

Any of those, decided and ordered with the cabinets, beats a mixture of parts from two different runs. Whatever the budget, the corners belong on the first quote. Trade buyers placing several kitchens get trade pricing through Captivating Pro, one programme with no tiers.

Getting the corners right on the first order

  1. Count every outside corner on the plan, not just the elevations.
  2. Decide what covers each one: post, molding or panel.
  3. Put corner posts on the same order as the cabinets.
  4. If the kitchen is already in, favour the narrowest part that does the job, and check it in two lights before fixing.

The corner post and every other trim part are on the decorative accessories page; the cabinets it stands between are on the base cabinets page. A designer replies within one business day, and the full design and quote follow within 24 to 48 hours.

Common questions

Can I order a corner post after the cabinets are installed?
Yes, but on a stained finish it may not match exactly. Fabuwood says colour variation is normal on stains and that replacement parts may not match installed cabinets. Order corner posts with the kitchen where you can.
Will new stained trim match my existing cabinets?
It may be close, but it is not guaranteed. Hold the part against the cabinets in daylight and in the evening before fitting it. If the tone is obviously different, call us before it goes on.
What is the cheapest way to cover an outside cabinet corner?
Outside corner molding. On this collection an 8-foot length is $62.40, or $78.00 for the 1¼-inch version. It also adds the least new stained surface, which makes it the safest choice when a part is added after installation.
How much is the corner post?
GH CP36, the 36-inch corner post, is $312.00 at displayed prices on 2026-09-28. It is the only corner post in this collection.
How do I find all the outside corners before ordering?
Look at the floor plan rather than the elevations. Every island has four, a peninsula at least two, and any run that turns away from a wall has one. Decide what covers each one before the order goes in.
