Galaxy Horizon refrigerator end panels: the tall stained plane that usually faces a window

A refrigerator end panel is the tallest single piece of finished wood in most kitchens: a 96-inch plane standing beside the fridge, closing the bay from floor to the cabinet above. The Galaxy Horizon parts for that job are on this page. What makes them worth a longer read on a stained finish is where they tend to end up. Fridges sit at the ends of runs, and the ends of runs are where the patio door, the back door and the side window usually are. So the fridge panel is often the one part of the kitchen that gets hours of direct sun, and sun is the one thing Fabuwood’s warranty says a finish may change colour from.
Four parts, and what the listings commit to
| SKU | As titled | Size published? | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| GH REP1296 | 12″ × 96″ refrigerator end panel | Yes, 12″ × 96″ | $224.25 |
| GH REP1-1/2 | Refrigerator panel | No; 1-1/2 in the code | $250.25 |
| GH REP3 | Refrigerator panel | No; 3 in the code | $325.00 |
| GH RFPEC | Refrigerator side panel end cap | No | $97.50 |
Only one of the four gives its face size. The numbers in the other two codes look like thicknesses in inches, and the end cap’s title says what it belongs to but not what it covers. We are not going to fill those gaps from a title. Tell us the fridge model and the bay you are building, and we will confirm which parts it needs and what each one is before the order is released.
A 12-inch-wide panel is shallower than the depth of most fridges, so how it is used in a given bay depends on the appliance and on what sits above it. Take the numbers from the fridge’s installation sheet, not from the width printed on the showroom tag. The fillers, scribe and end panels guide explains how panels and fillers work together around an appliance.
Why the fridge panel is so often the one that faces the glass

Walk through the layouts people actually build. In an L-shaped kitchen the fridge usually sits at the end of one leg, which is often the wall with the door to the garden or the garage. In a galley it anchors one end, and the other end is frequently a window. In a kitchen that opens into a family room, the fridge is placed at the edge of the work zone, often beside the big sliding door that lights the whole space.
In each case the side of the fridge bay — the panel on this page — faces the light source across the room or stands right next to it. The doors of the run face into the kitchen, and the countertop and uppers shade them. The panel has no counter in front of it and nothing above it but the cabinet over the fridge. On many afternoons it is the sunniest vertical surface in the room.
What sunlight can do to a stain, and what the warranty says
Fabuwood’s warranty lists colour change from exposure to UV light and sunlight — alongside smoke and certain household cleaners — as outside its cover, and says that colours may darken or lighten over time. That is standard across the industry for wood finishes, and it applies to paints as well as stains. It matters more on a tall panel because the panel is where the exposure concentrates.
We have not found any report of this particular stain fading or yellowing, and we will not invent one. The general point is simpler: if one face of your kitchen gets several hours of direct sun a day for years and the faces beside it do not, the sunny face can drift relative to its neighbours, whichever finish you choose. On a grey-taupe that already reads warmer in sun and cooler in shade, it is worth planning for from the start rather than noticing in year five.
One consequence people do not expect: anything fixed to a sunny panel shades the wood behind it. A towel bar, a hook or a calendar held on for years can leave its outline when it comes off. On a panel in full sun, keep it clear.
Three ways to keep direct sun off a tall stained panel
- Flip the bay. If the plan allows the fridge to sit with its panel side facing into the room rather than toward the glass, the appliance itself shades the panel. This is free if it is decided before the order.
- UV-filtering window film on the door or window that throws the sun. It is invisible from inside, protects the floor and the furniture as well, and is the standard fix for sun on any wood surface.
- Shades used in the peak hours. A blind drawn for the two or three hours when the sun comes straight in removes most of the exposure without darkening the room the rest of the day.
Our cabinet care guide recommends the same thing for any run that faces a window: stop strong daily sun rather than trying to repair its effects later.
A once-a-year look that catches drift early
Prevention is the only real remedy here, so it helps to know early whether it is needed. Once a year, on a clear day near the same date and time, take one photograph of the fridge panel and the nearest door together, with a plain white card touching both and the artificial lights off. File it with the order paperwork.
Compare it with last year’s. If the panel is moving away from the door beside it — lighter, warmer, or less even from top to bottom — the sun is reaching it more than the rest of the run, and that is the moment to add film or change how the blinds are used. If nothing has moved in three or four years, the room is not a problem and you can stop worrying about it.
What not to do is try to correct drift with the touch-up kit. The marker and fill stick are made for chips and scratches in a small area; spread over a whole panel they leave a patchy surface that looks worse than an even change in tone. And a replacement panel ordered years later comes from a different finishing run, next to doors that have had years of light of their own, which is why Fabuwood warns that later parts may not match. Shade is cheaper than either.
What stands beside it: stainless, a panel-ready door, or a tall cabinet
Fabuwood’s own photography shows this stain with stainless steel appliances, black countertops and marble, so a stainless fridge beside the panel is a combination the manufacturer itself presents. The grey-taupe sits comfortably against brushed steel because neither is a strong colour; the panel supplies the wood, the fridge the metal.
If the bay is instead flanked by a pantry, the panel meets a tall cabinet side, and the tall skin (GH SK TALL, $169.00) or a filler (GH TF396, $84.50) may be the right partner on the far side. The wall and tall sizing guide covers the heights involved. The one combination we would avoid is ordering the panel separately from the tall cabinet next to it, for the same-run reason that runs through every page in this set.
Ordering the bay
Send the fridge model, the ceiling height and a note on which way the sun comes in. We will confirm which of the four parts the bay needs, draw it in a free 3D design, and flag it if the panel lands in direct light. Everything ships pre-assembled with the cabinets in about two weeks.
The panels themselves are here, the rest of the trim is on the decorative accessories page, and the full range is on the collection page. Questions: (609) 900-3358.
Common questions
- Will stained cabinets fade in the sun?
- Any wood finish can change colour with years of strong sun, and Fabuwood’s warranty treats colour change from UV and sunlight as outside its cover. We have not found reports of this stain fading specifically. Keep direct daily sun off tall panels with window film, shades or a plan that turns the panel away from the glass.
- What size is the Horizon refrigerator end panel?
- GH REP1296 is 12 by 96 inches at $224.25. GH REP1-1/2 ($250.25) and GH REP3 ($325.00) do not publish a face size; the numbers in their codes read like thicknesses. Ask us to confirm before ordering.
- What is the refrigerator side panel end cap?
- GH RFPEC is listed at $97.50 as a refrigerator side panel end cap. The listing does not describe exactly what it covers, so we confirm its use against your bay before it goes on an order.
- Can I hang a towel bar on the refrigerator panel?
- You can, but on a panel that gets direct sun, anything fixed to it for years shades the wood behind it and can leave an outline when removed. Put it somewhere shaded.
- Can a sun-faded cabinet panel be refinished to match?
- Not easily. Fabuwood does not sell spray cans for its stained finishes, the touch-up kit is for small chips and scratches, and a replacement panel ordered later may not match installed cabinets. Keeping strong daily sun off the panel from the start is the practical answer.
- Does this stain go with a stainless refrigerator?
- Yes. Fabuwood itself shows the finish with stainless steel appliances. The grey-taupe and brushed steel are both quiet, so neither fights the other.
