Fifteen inches and the bin: what the insert adds to the price of the box

Ask a showroom what fifteen inches is for and the answer is a bin. It is a fair answer — this is the narrowest width where a waste pull-out is a sensible idea rather than a squeeze — but it is usually given without the second half, which is that the bin costs more than half as much again as the cabinet it goes in. Five cabinets are made at this width, from $331.50 to $780.00, and the interesting number is not on any of them.
The five boxes first

What a waste pull-out actually adds
Two 15-inch waste units are listed. GNK TC15 BLUM at $617.50 fits the drawer-over-door box; GNK TC15FHD BLUM, also $617.50, is the version for a full-height door, where there is no drawer rail in the way of the top of the frame. Same money, different cabinet, and ordering the wrong one is a return.
Which means the real figures for a bin cabinet at this width are these. GN B15 plus GNK TC15 BLUM is $994.50. GN B15FD plus GNK TC15FHD BLUM is $958.75. Either way you are spending close to a thousand dollars on fifteen inches of run, and roughly two-thirds of it is the mechanism.
That is not an argument against it. A well-mounted pull-out bin is the single accessory people say they would buy again, and the Blum runners under it are the same family as the drawer glides elsewhere in the kitchen.
