Start with the remainder, because that is what sends most people here. The sink wall, the range and the dishwasher are fixed; what is left over is an awkward number that has to be made out of standard boxes plus something. These four widths are the something, and they are not priced in a straight line — the extra three inches cost a different amount at every rung.

Read the third column before you settle a plan. If you have fifteen spare inches and were about to draw twelve, the extra three cost thirteen dollars and buy you a bin — the best value in the base line. The step from 15″ to 18″ is two and a half times as expensive, and the step out of this page altogether, to the two-door boxes, costs thirty-nine. Below nine inches there is no cabinet, so the remainder goes into a filler scribed to the wall on site: GN BF3 covers three inches at $26.00, GN BF6 covers six at $43.55. At nine a box exists but has no drawer — the 9″ is door-only, GN B09FD at $273.00, on the full-height single page. Twelve is where a cabinet with a drawer starts.

So the honest line is this: under six inches, fill it; over twelve, buy a box; in between, decide whether you would rather have $43.55 of dead wall or $273.00 of storage. We usually argue for the box. What we argue against is a single wide filler — split a five-inch remainder into two two-and-a-half-inch strips at either end of the run and it reads as a margin; put all five in one place and it reads as a cabinet that did not fit.

A third option exists and is expensive enough to be honest about: a filler that pulls out. GNK SPO-BF3 turns a three-inch gap into a bottle pull-out at $334.75 and GNK SPO-BF6 does the same for six inches at $380.25, with Blum-hardware versions at $585.00 and $695.50. Those are not small numbers beside a $364.00 cabinet. Buy one because you want the gap to work, not because it is the cheap way out of an awkward measurement; they sit with the rest of the pull-out organisers.

GN B18 is GN B18 whether the door hangs left or right. Hand is a build option, not a suffix, so it appears nowhere in the code you type into a cart — and a cart cannot ask you. It has to be written on the order line, cabinet by cabinet. We state it the simple way: stand in the room facing the cabinet and tell us which side the hinges are on. Every drawing we send back marks the swing with an arc, so you check it against the room rather than against a convention.

It matters because you cannot undo it later. These are framed cabinets with full-overlay doors: the hinge cups are bored into the back of the door and the frame is drilled to match. The Blum Compact Clip hinges are generous — six-way adjustable and quick-release, so a door comes off in a second and goes back in line without tools — but they adjust a door on the side it was built for. • Beside a range or cooktop. Hinges on the appliance side. The door then opens out and away from the heat, your forearm never crosses a burner to reach the handle, and the face that collects spatter spends its life edge-on to the range rather than square to it.
• Beside a dishwasher. Hinges on the far side. The machine drops its door flat across roughly the square of floor you would stand on to open the cabinet, so hinging toward it means moving twice for one job. • Beside the refrigerator. The appliance wins: a fridge door is wider than anything on this page and opens through more than a right angle, so the cabinet takes whichever side is left. • Into a wall return. Hinges away from the wall, with the GN BF3 filler at $26.00 between the two, so the door and its pull swing clear of the corner rather than knocking on it.
• At the open end of a run. Hinges toward the wall, so an open door does not stand in the walkway. The exposed side takes either the GN BEP base end panel at $149.50 or, where it is seen but not central, the GN SK BASE end skin at $62.40 — both on the decorative accessories page.

One place the finish earns something down here: the narrow box at the end of a run, or the one beside the bin, is the door people push shut with a knee or the toe of a shoe, and a mid-tone gray absorbs that traffic better than a white door does. The trade is that dried splashes show sooner, so the run wants wiping rather than touching up — the cabinet care guide has the routine.

One caution first: the number in the name is the outside of the box. A framed cabinet gives a couple of inches back to the face frame, and the catalog does not publish the clear opening behind the door. If the remainder is 24 inches or more, stop dividing and buy one two-door box. If you wanted the narrow cabinet to give a pull-out the whole door face, take the drawerless full-height singles instead, $32.50 to $35.75 cheaper at the same widths.
